00:00Our October heat wave, well, it's not coming to an end just yet for especially Southern California.
00:06We're just going to continue to be scorching through the late week.
00:10Now, for Los Angeles, not only is this a heat wave, but it's in our extreme category,
00:15the top level on the AccuWeather Heat Wave Severity Index here.
00:18Time frame through the 9th, so that does get us towards the end of the week.
00:22But this weekend, we start to see some improvement.
00:25That's the light at the end of the tunnel for you to look at.
00:27And we are getting a little bit better than recent days.
00:31We look at Wednesday, 99 in L.A., not triple digits.
00:34Oceanside, San Diego, both in the upper 80s.
00:37Palm Springs, a little bit warmer at 107, as we tend to be.
00:41Now, where do we challenge the records on Wednesday?
00:44While Imperial California is still on the list, two degrees above that previous record from 1980 here,
00:49Fresno set to tie a previous record from 2024.
00:52We're a few degrees above in places like Merced in Reno, and Burns also set to tie a previous record.
01:00That gets us up into Oregon.
01:00So it's not just California, Nevada, and Oregon also much warmer than you typically would be this time of year.
01:06Our lows, they're not helping anything.
01:08Because in some areas where we have the 70s, for example, we're closer to historical average highs than we are
01:15to where our lows should be this time of year.
01:17So you're not getting relief overnight, which is part of what makes this heat wave just so dangerous.
01:22Because your body's not getting any recovery time, especially if you don't have air conditioning.
01:28But here's the light at the end of the tunnel.
01:30It's a pro-con situation.
01:32It helps us out with the heat, but it could bring some flooding and things like that.
01:36So we're going to get some moisture from Rachel from the Pacific here, impacting the southwest, but also this dip
01:41in the jet stream.
01:42Just bringing a cool down to the entire western U.S. Sunday night to Monday.
01:47Now, flooding, mudslides, those are a concern.
01:49But it's going to help out our drought, and it's going to help out our temperatures.
