00:00Two big items are on the Allegheny County Council agenda tonight, and one is the 2027 budget.
00:06NewsRadio KDKA's Tamira Rush has details from the newsroom.
00:09Paul County Executive Sarah Inamorado will present her 2027 budget proposal to council.
00:15The Acting County Comptroller's 2025 annual report says last year's 36% property tax increase brought in $132 million,
00:23but only provided temporary relief.
00:25County spending has grown more than $200 million since 2019, with human services and the jail accounting for more than
00:33half that increase.
00:34The report also warns that the pension fund is under pressure, with fewer employees paying into the system than retirees
00:41receiving benefits.
00:43Council is also expected to vote on pay parental leave, and I'll have more on that coming up at the
00:47bottom of the hour.
00:48In the newsroom, Tamira Rush Newsradio, KDKA.
00:51Just days after Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor delivered a preliminary budget, City Council Member Erica Strasburger is holding a
00:58news conference today
00:59to call for a package of what she says are common-sense fiscal reforms.
01:03Strasburger's office says they're designed to strengthen oversight and give a clearer picture of city finances.
01:10Allegheny County has its first measles case involving a resident, and the health department is warning people
01:15who were at a North Hill store last Thursday, and they may have been exposed.
01:20Newsradio KDKA's David Bollorato reports.
01:23The measles patient, identified only as a minor, is recovering at home, and there was no school exposure.
01:28But the department says if you were at the Pine Creek Shopping Center Target store
01:31between 3.45 and 5.45 p.m. on October 1st, you may have been exposed.
01:37It could take as few as seven days or as many as 21 days to show symptoms of exposure.
01:42The disease is spread when someone who is infected breathes, coughs, or sneezes.
01:47Before the tell-tale red spots, symptoms start with fever, runny nose, and a cough.
01:51David Bollorato, Newsradio KDKA.
01:54Consolidation was discussed during last night's Penn Trafford School Board meeting.
01:58One of the options being considered is closing McCullough Elementary.
02:01Director of Business Affairs Rebecca Rodriguez said the district's revenue is not keeping pace with its expenses.
02:07A Trib Live report says Rodriguez told them closing one building could save $1.3 million a year.
02:14The Penn Trafford Board voted unanimously to schedule a second meeting on the 19th to get more feedback.
02:20This week's clear and dry weather will allow PennDoc crews to make steady progress.
02:24Assistant District Executive for Construction Doug Thompson tells KDKA Radio they always look forward to fall.
02:30You know, you're getting that dry season, which has been difficult this year.
02:33The rain has been impactful to a lot of our projects.
02:36But, yeah, we're looking forward to the good weather this week.
02:39And, man, when you really look at the forecast, even after this week, it's still looking good.
02:43So we're keeping our fingers crossed.
02:44He says a lack of weather-related delays will allow PennDoc to stay on task with major projects like the
02:50Parkway East Bathtub.
