Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen waving the Tricolour after climbing atop a police barricade during the INDIA bloc’s protest march towards the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday. Gandhi and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee climbed the barricade after police stopped the Opposition MPs from proceeding further. Gandhi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attempted to enter the Akashvani Bhawan premises to reach the EC headquarters but were prevented by security personnel. The INDIA bloc MPs, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi, had marched from the Parliament complex towards Nirvachan Sadan. Police stopped them on Parliament Street, near the stretch between NITI Aayog and Akashvani Bhawan, following which the MPs sat on the road and staged a dharna demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The protesters raised slogans including “Vote chor, gaddi chhod” and “Democracy not for sale”. Some MPs also carried cutouts depicting Kumar in an RSS uniform.
