A major showdown unfolded in the national capital as opposition leaders staged a massive protest against the Election Commission. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a sit-in demonstration near Akashvani Bhavan after being prevented by police from marching towards Nirvachan Sadan. Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission and the BJP of hijacking polls and questioned why the poll body was avoiding meeting elected representatives. Several senior opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and MP Abhishek Banerjee, were detained by the police. Meanwhile, the BJP hit back, accusing the Congress of making excuses and raising concerns over duplicate and deceased names on electoral rolls.
