00:00So you got a Google Pixel, but you don't really know how to make it look cool.
00:03Well, don't worry, I've got you covered, because in under 10 minutes,
00:06I'll show you how to turn the stock Pixel Launcher into this really eye-catching setup,
00:10complete with a slidable folder, animated icons, and even wallpapers
00:14that automatically switch to the dark mode and light theme.
00:17This is definitely not your average Pixel setup.
00:19And by the way, I've done this same customization video for Samsung phones too,
00:23so if you want me to keep making these, just leave a comment and a like.
00:26And if we hit 10,000 likes, I'll know to keep making this series.
00:29All right, let's jump in.
00:30First things first, Google just loves tracking everything we do,
00:33so let's tweak a few settings to give you a little bit more privacy.
00:36So you can just go into the settings, security and privacy, more security and privacy,
00:41then go to usage and diagnostics and disable that option.
00:45It's not really necessary to keep enabled.
00:47Then you're going to want to go back to the main screen of the settings,
00:50you're going to tap on your Google account, switch to the all services tab,
00:54go into the ads menu, ads privacy, and turn off all those settings
00:59because it just lets Android show you ads that you may be interested in
01:02based on the apps you use.
01:04It's not necessary.
01:05And one last thing, let's quickly get rid of all the ads within apps
01:08or websites that you visit.
01:09So just go into the settings, network and internet, private DNS,
01:14choose private DNS provider host name, and type in dns.adguard.com.
01:19Once you do that, hit save, and just like that,
01:22most ads across websites and apps that you use are going to be gone.
01:25Now for the home screen, you can start by getting rid of everything you've got.
01:29Then you can just long press the home screen and tap home settings.
01:32In there, tap the gear icon next to add a glance and turn off show on home screen
01:37to just make that annoying widget disappear.
01:40Then you can go back to the home screen, long press it again on anywhere
01:43and just pick wallpaper and style.
01:45From there, you can go into color theme and you can choose whatever color you want,
01:48but I went with black and white.
01:50Then for the icons, I switched the style over to minimal and hit apply.
01:54Then for the layout, I chose small so I could fit more icons on the home screen.
01:58From there, as I told you before, I wanted my wallpaper to automatically switch
02:01between light and dark versions.
02:03So I downloaded this app called Dual Wallpaper.
02:06You just choose your wallpapers for each theme.
02:08You have a wallpaper for your light theme and a dark wallpaper for your dark theme.
02:12And then whenever your phone switches themes, the wallpaper changes with it.
02:16And for those curious, for my light wallpaper, I actually got it from a wallpaper app called
02:20Crimson.
02:20It has a bunch of gorgeous high-resolution wallpapers that are all made by the developer
02:24himself.
02:25No AI.
02:26My favorite is this one called Sakna.
02:28And with this permission, I even linked it down below so you guys can download it for
02:31free.
02:32The full app is actually only three bucks and he also gave me a hundred promo codes to give
02:35away on my Patreon.
02:37So if you want the full version, you can grab it from there as well.
02:39For the dark mode wallpaper, I grabbed it from this app called Dusky Walls.
02:43My favorite one is this one with a purple tint up top.
02:46The developer also let me share this one for free too, so you can download it below.
02:50And the full app is only a dollar with tons of other AMOLED wallpapers that you can download.
02:54Again, no AI was used to make these and he also gave me a hundred promo codes to just give
02:58away on my Patreon too.
02:59Huge thanks to both developers.
03:01Now before moving on to the widgets, just like how I got great ideas for great home screen
03:05setups, I also get random ideas for genuinely useful things to make.
03:09And lately, I've been bringing some of those ideas to life with the Makara Z1, the sponsor
03:13of this video.
03:14It's a compact, fully enclosed desktop CNC machine that can carve functional objects out
03:19of wood, metal, plastic, acrylic, copper, and a lot more, all within an 8x8 inch work
03:25area.
03:26I've actually never used anything like this before, but within a few hours, I was already
03:30making some really cool stuff.
03:31I mean, on Makara's website called Makerables, it has a bunch of designs that you can choose
03:35from to create, for example, I found this fancy aluminum bottle opener and I had the
03:39Z1 create it and it came out incredibly well.
03:43It even came out in really precise detail thanks to the Z1's roughly 0.02 millimeter resolution
03:49and 0.01 millimeter spindle runout.
03:52And from there, I also made this hand soap holder out of clear acrylic too for my bathroom,
03:56which looks nice.
03:57And it isn't limited to flat cuts.
03:59It also supports full three-axis machining and can be equipped with an optional fourth-axis
04:04module.
04:05With that module, the Z1 can rotate a block of material like wood or certain metals while
04:10carving all the way around it.
04:12I used it to make this mini Android collectible that I actually generated with AI on their
04:17website.
04:18And then I also made this World Cup trophy too.
04:20But it doesn't stop there because my favorite feature is this optional 5-watt laser module
04:24that you can attach to it, which lets you engrave custom text, logos, photos, or pretty much
04:29any design onto different materials too.
04:32And even engrave my Houtumen logo as well in great detail.
04:35And despite everything it can do, it's still really practical indoors.
04:38The enclosure helps contain the noise and debris, while Makara's Cyclone Dust Collector on
04:43this side catches most of the dust, wood chips, and metal shavings too.
04:47And then when I'm done, I can just grab the hose attached to it and basically vacuum whatever's
04:51left.
04:51So whether you want to make custom desk accessories, signs, PCPs, prototypes, or even real metal
04:57parts, the Makara Z1 just gives you a surprisingly powerful way to turn an idea into a finished
05:02object right on your desk.
05:04You can check it out at the top link in the description.
05:06Anyway, back to the pixel.
05:08Let's start by creating those widgets.
05:09A lot of these two were actually created completely from scratch by our team specifically for the
05:14setup.
05:14So you won't find them anywhere else.
05:16All you need to do is download two apps from the Play Store, KWGT Custom Widget Maker, and
05:21the KWGT Pro Key.
05:23And then I also dropped a zip file with all the custom KWGT widgets that we created for
05:27the setup in the description.
05:29You can grab it for free.
05:30And once you do, you can just extract it into your downloads folder using any file manager.
05:35So on the main screen, the top widget is this funky clock that we designed to just match
05:39Google's material expressive look with all its different shapes and sizes.
05:43Here's how you get it.
05:44First, place a 4x1 KWGT widget at the top of your home screen and stretch it all the way
05:49to the edges.
05:50Then you can just tap it, hit import, and look for the custom widgets that we made, which
05:55should be in the folder named HowToManPixelWidgets.
05:58Go ahead and select the funky clock one.
06:01And by the way, you might as well import the other three widgets too, since we're going to
06:05place them on the home screen in a bit.
06:07Then you can tap on the funky clock one.
06:09If you want, you can adjust its size under the layers tab by changing the scale, just in
06:13case it feels too big or too small.
06:16Then you hit save and head back to the home screen.
06:19Next, we'll add this handy widget below the clock for checking the weather and quickly
06:22opening Gemini or the Assistant.
06:24So place down a 2x4 KWGT widget and stretch it to the left by one notch.
06:30Tap it and select the widget called Weather and Assistant.
06:33It may also ask you for a permission that you can grant.
06:36And you can tweak the size too in the layers tab if it looks off and it's too big.
06:40Then you can hit save and go back to the home screen.
06:42Now for the second screen, we're going to put down a calendar widget.
06:45So first place down a 4x4 KWGT widget and stretch it all the way to the right.
06:51Tap it, choose the calendar widget that we just imported, give it the permissions it needs,
06:55and resize the widget in the layer tab if you need it.
06:59Finally, hit save and swipe up to go home.
07:02It's that easy.
07:03And if it doesn't show your events right away, just force stop the KWGT app and it'll bring it up.
07:08Next, we're going to add a health widget.
07:10So drop another 4x2 KWGT widget right below it, stretch it all the way to the edge,
07:15tap it, and then you can select the health widget to import it.
07:19You might see a pop-up that says Fixed Now.
07:21So you can go ahead and tap that and you'll need to grant a few quick permissions.
07:25And then you can save it and swipe home and there you go.
07:28You should now have all my custom widgets on your home screen.
07:30But we're not done yet.
07:32The next thing we need to do is download this app called KnowWidgets.
07:35It's a free widget app that's packed with a bunch of material expressive widgets.
07:38The one I place on my main screen is their music player widget, specifically the music art one.
07:43Once you place it down, you just make sure to long press it, hit settings,
07:47and grant it the permission it needs so it knows what music you're playing in the background.
07:52I love it because it looks really similar to the YouTube music widget,
07:55but it actually works with any music player app.
07:57Now let's add those animated icons and that slide-able folder.
08:01Pixels still don't support large folders like most Android skins do,
08:04but I found a pretty cool workaround.
08:06You can just download Pix Material Expressive icons.
08:09Now it does cost $2 to download,
08:11but the developer also gave me 100 promo codes to give away on my Patreon.
08:15Huge thanks to him for hooking it up.
08:16Once you have the app downloaded, you can go into your widgets panel,
08:19and then you can search for a Pix Folder Widget,
08:21and then you can place it on your home screen.
08:23From there, you can pick your favorite apps,
08:25and it doesn't even matter how many you pick.
08:27You can even switch to a grid view too to just make selecting them easier.
08:31And then you can scroll down to the icon style,
08:34and you can turn off the app name and enable this widget animation.
08:38You can also change the icon shape to whatever you like.
08:41I went with this diagonal pill shape.
08:43I also chose a darker icon color theme too.
08:45Then you're going to want to tap on the tab called Folder Appearance.
08:49You're going to change the grid size to just one,
08:51and you're going to add a folder stroke to it to just give it a nice clean outline.
08:55Hit Apply, and you should now see that nice folder.
08:58But we can take it a step further and make it one notch smaller,
09:01and then just stretch it all the way down to the bottom of the screen.
09:04And just like that, you've got a little slidable bar with all your favorite apps
09:08that's really easy to use with one hand too.
09:10Okay, now on the second screen, we're going to place down even more animated icons,
09:14and it's done with the same app.
09:15You just search for icon widget within the widget panel,
09:18place it on your home screen, select the app that you want,
09:21and then go into the tab that says Widget Design and Layout.
09:24You can give it a random shape, remove the name,
09:27and enable widget animation so it moves around on the home screen.
09:31Hit Apply, and it'll be added to your home screen looking super clean.
09:35Now from then on, you just repeat that three more times for your other favorite apps.
09:39And there you have it, my entire pixel setup in under 10 minutes.
09:41If you ended up liking how your pixel turned out,
09:44and you want me to keep making these same type of customization videos,
09:47just show me by getting this video to at least 10,000 likes.
09:49Thanks for sticking around to the end, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
09:53Kapow!
