00:00For the Trinbago Diaspora Outreach Network, the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and its diaspora
00:06extends well beyond those living overseas sending money home.
00:10Today, the diaspora represents remittances, investments and knowledge, professional networks, technology,
00:18philanthropy, entrepreneurship, cultural influence and international market access.
00:24T-Dawn co-founder and chair Dr. Andre Phillips says the challenge is creating a more structured way for people
00:30abroad to contribute to national development.
00:33There is now something that we are calling brain recirculation.
00:38The diaspora is coming back with knowledge, with technical skills, expertise to help Trinidad and Tobago.
00:45But there is no systematic arrangement in place for their efforts to be fulfilled.
00:53And I want to make this point especially, that we have moved from a period of looking at them as
01:00the brain drain to the brain gain.
01:04Homecoming 2026 will bring together policymakers, business leaders, investors, philanthropists, cultural practitioners and members of the global Trinbago diaspora.
01:14So, the objectives of homecoming should therefore be presented and is being presented as connecting the diaspora, mobilizing knowledge, attracting
01:25investment, strengthening enterprise, expanding international networks in building Trinidad and Tobago.
01:32The conference takes place from October 16th to 18th.
01:36T-Dawn also launched its Diaspora Property Portal, designed to give members of the diaspora a digital avenue to explore
01:44property, investment and other opportunities connected to Trinidad and Tobago.
