Christian encouragement matters most when bravery does not feel dramatic. Some days, courage is simply getting out of bed with a heavy heart and deciding that you will try again.
You may not think of yourself as brave because you remember how afraid you were. Yet courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is refusing to let fear make every decision for you.
Peter stepped onto the water because Jesus called him forward. He later became frightened and began to sink, but needing Jesus to rescue him did not erase the courage it took to leave the boat.
Your need for help does not erase your courage either.
You can trust God while feeling uncertain. You can be strong and still need rest. You can believe that better days are ahead while admitting that today is difficult. Jesus does not ask you to act invincible. He asks you to keep reaching toward him.
Let this message remind you that your past contains evidence of God’s faithfulness. You have endured, adjusted, started over, and continued walking. Give yourself permission to recognize that strength.

00:00Can I remind you of something that you may be too tired to notice?
00:06It has always been hard, but you have always been brave, and that's why you've gotten this far.
00:15You may not feel brave because you remember the fear more than the courage.
00:20You remember the nights when you could not sleep, the mornings when you did not want to get up,
00:27and the moments when you wondered how much more you could take, but you kept going.
00:34Bravery does not mean you were never afraid.
00:38It means fear did not get the final decision.
00:43Sometimes courage is not dramatic.
00:46Sometimes it's getting out of bed with a heavy heart.
00:50It's trying again after disappointment.
00:54It's praying when you do not know what to say.
00:59Sometimes courage is simply deciding that today will not be the day you give up.
01:07You've made that decision more times than you realize.
01:12Jesus never promised that life would be easy.
01:16In John 16, verse 33, he said,
01:21In this world you will have trouble, but take heart.
01:26I have overcome the world.
01:29Jesus acknowledged the trouble, but he did not stop there.
01:34He said, take heart.
01:36So do not let one difficult season convince you that your story is over.
01:42However, you have already lived through days that once felt impossible.
01:48At the time, you could not imagine reaching the other side.
01:53Yet, here you are.
01:55The experience may have left scars, but it did not take your future.
02:01Perhaps you think, I barely made it, and that still counts.
02:07You don't have to reach the other side looking rested and polished.
02:12Sometimes you arrive exhausted and uncertain.
02:17You still arrived.
02:19Think about the disciples caught in a storm.
02:22The wind was against them.
02:24The waves were rising, and they had been rowing through the night without making much progress.
02:31And you may know that feeling.
02:34You're trying, praying, and doing everything you know to do.
02:39But the wind seems determined to push you backward.
02:44Then Jesus came toward them on the water.
02:57Now, Jesus did not pretend the storm was harmless.
03:03He reminded them that they were not facing it alone.
03:07It is I.
03:10Now, that was their reason to take courage.
03:13The storm was real, but so was Jesus.
03:17And whatever you are facing is real, too.
03:22Faith does not require you to pretend that something difficult is easy.
03:27Faith means remembering that the difficulty is not the only reality of your life.
03:34Jesus is here, too.
03:37You know, Peter asked Jesus to call him onto the water.
03:41In Matthew 14, verse 29, Jesus said,
03:50You know, we often focus on the moment Peter became afraid and began to sink.
03:56But first, he did something brave.
04:00In the middle of a storm, he moved toward Jesus.
04:06Now, yes, Peter did become frightened, and he needed Jesus to rescue him.
04:13But needing help did not erase his courage.
04:17Needing help doesn't erase yours, either.
04:20You can be brave and still need support.
04:24You could trust God and still have fearful moments.
04:27Courage is knowing where to reach when you discover you are not.
04:36When Peter began sinking, he called to Jesus, and Jesus immediately reached out and caught him.
04:45Peter's story did not end beneath the waves.
04:48His fear was real.
04:50But the hand of Jesus was stronger.
04:54And that's the lesson I want you to carry today.
04:58You do not have to be stronger than everything you face.
05:02You only need to keep reaching toward the one who is.
05:07Look back for a moment.
05:09Not to reopen old wounds, but to notice the evidence.
05:14Think about everything you have survived, and every time you've had to begin again without knowing how things would turn
05:21out.
05:22You may have called it survival.
05:26God may have called it courage.
05:29Your strength is not found in never bending.
05:33It's found in praying, breathing, and rising again.
05:38You did not get this far because every road was smooth.
05:43You got here because something inside you kept saying,
05:49Take another step.
05:50God was present in that step.
05:54He was with you when you could feel him, and when you could not.
05:59He was there during the victories you understood, and the delays you still cannot explain.
06:06If today is another hard day, you do not have to solve your entire life before bedtime.
06:14Take the next faithful step.
06:18Ask for help.
06:20Say the prayer.
06:22Make the call.
06:24Rest if you need to rest.
06:27Begin again if you need to begin again.
06:31You have already proven that difficult does not mean impossible.
06:37Jesus never told the disciples they would avoid every storm.
06:42He taught them that storms do not get to decide how their stories end.
06:49The same is true for you.
06:52The wind may be strong, but it cannot erase the presence of Jesus.
06:57The road may be hard, but hard roads have not stopped you yet.
07:04Fear may speak loudly, but it does not get to choose your next step.
07:11You are someone who has faced difficult days and continued forward.
07:19You are someone who has fallen, reached for Jesus, and risen again.
07:25God has already carried you farther than you once believed possible.
07:30It has always been hard, but you have always been brave.
07:38With Jesus beside you, you can be brave again today.
07:47My name is Douglas Vandergraaf, and I believe in Jesus Christ.
07:52God bless every single one of you, every single one, and everyone you love.
08:04Bye-bye.
