00:02so hello again my friends I hope you're all doing well I'm back at the lake after being away for
00:11a
00:11few days shooting the latest segment of this documentary I'm working on which unfortunately
00:17I can't speak that much about because it's all under embargo and I'm signed up to non-disclosure
00:23agreements and all of that but hopefully as soon as it comes out I'll be able to tell you more
00:29about it so I'm hoping that'll be before the end of the year but who knows with these things how
00:35long it takes them to edit which I'm really looking forward to because the have professional
00:42editors work on your on your on your film I'm sure they can do much much better job of it
00:49than I can
00:50so I'm really looking forward to see what they do with that in the meantime about three weeks ago
00:58I had come up to this corner of the lake after I was told by a friend that for the
01:03second year in a
01:05row after an absence of many many years there was a bunch of purple herons up here trying to nest
01:13in
01:13the reed beds so I came up and I managed to get some lovely footage I think of the herons
01:21perched on the
01:22edge of the weeds a little bit of courtship behavior as well and nest building that sort of thing but
01:30unfortunately life happened as usual other things distracted me other obligations etc and I wasn't
01:38able to keep coming back over those few days to complete that video for you so I thought I'd come
01:47up now and see what I might be able to get I got some decent footage back then but I
01:53didn't really
01:53get many stills so that's my objective now is to get some better stills of the type of herons and
02:01whatever footage I can as well so yeah it's the lake has changed as well during those three weeks
02:10there's the the lily pads have really filled out across the surface here and there's dragonflies I
02:17just filmed this beautiful blue emperor and I think she was laying her eggs underneath one of the lily
02:22pads but I'll have a better look when I get it up on the big screen and yeah the the
02:30lilies are flowering
02:32now it's absolutely beautiful so I'm gonna hang out here for a couple of hours today and probably be
02:39back tomorrow and the day after to see what else I can get and I should hopefully be bringing that
02:47to
02:47you very soon yeah so what else I was going to say yeah I'll show you what I managed to
03:11get a few
03:12weeks ago just now and then hopefully come back with something interesting in frame so I'll see in a sec
03:52when it comes out and then I'm not going to be able to catch up with something else.
03:58but you can go ahead and get some fun if you want to get something new that may be
04:01like for me yeah I'm going to go ahead and get some more information.
04:01The ice is great and you can get the ice is great but I need to be nervous or something
04:01The ice is great and I'm going to be nervous when I get out and you're many cool things I'm
04:07going to
04:07It's great for you because it's very exciting in the weather and see what you can get in there.
04:09This is great, it's great.
06:24So I gave up at the location I was at down by the reed beds there.
06:30Oh, damn.
06:32Just got scared off.
06:36Waiting for the purple herons to come to their nesting sites.
06:42I got one fly past and that was it pretty much.
06:45A couple of shots there, but nothing spectacular.
06:51And I think it's going to be really difficult to film them there because their nests are so...
06:59I just flew back.
07:01Their nests are so deeply embedded in the...
07:05Oh, the grey heron just scared him off again.
07:09Before I could press record as well, damn it.
07:12Yeah, their nests are so deeply embedded in the reeds that it's impossible to film them.
07:20Whereas a few weeks ago when I was filming them, they were...
07:25Because they were freshly arrived, they were perching on the outside of the reeds and they were doing
07:30their courtship displays at the top of the reeds, perched on the top.
07:34So I had a better view of them.
07:36Now they're just going straight into the nest when they come...
07:39And I don't get a viewing of them at all.
07:43So I figured I would come down here and see if I can get any feeding action.
07:49And I got a little bit...
07:51Until the grey heron scared him off.
07:57And just a little while ago as well I got a really cool shot that I'm happy with...
08:03Of a white stork with a monster snake.
08:08So I'll have to look him up on the computer later to see what snake it was.
08:12But he was a really big one.
08:14And the stork was hammering away at him, poor thing.
08:19Until it stopped moving so the stork could swallow him.
08:23But yeah, so I think I'm going to call it on this one, on this video.
08:28And see if I can get any more action for another time.
08:34So thanks again for watching and hope you've enjoyed it, such as it is.
08:40And I shall see you again soon.
08:41Let's go.
08:42Let's go.
08:45Let's go.
08:45Let's go.
08:48Let's go.
08:52Let's go.
