00:24straight up said there's no problem with his shoulder and then i believe uh another one of
00:31your uh colleagues was reporting that people inside of uh foxborough are like why is he
00:36why is he not saying things about a shoulder why is he not saying it's okay a shoulder is fine
00:40and then all of a sudden yesterday drake may's right shoulder listed on the injury report what
00:46the hell is going on tommy curran well my best guess is he finally went to them and said yeah
00:52shoulder hurts all right good we'll put you on the injury report with you can can you practice
00:57yeah does it bother how you throw no do you just stink yeah all right so okay so so you

01:08it was it was most likely drake who was like why would he do that let me just ask you

01:13he go to them and ask them to put him on that report i'm just um and i'm just hypothetically
01:19trying to imagine look i don't think vrabel's going to sit there with a straight face and
01:23adamantly deny that there's a shoulder shoulder issue if drake had come to him and said my shoulder's
01:30bothering to the point where i need treatment and i should be listed on the injury report
01:34so whether it's to appease him because he clearly would not come straight out and say my shoulder
01:41doesn't hurt at all he said it said it's not affecting him does it's his decision making that's
01:47impacting him so i think the effort by him to maintain that there is something amiss made them
01:55say okay we'll put you on the injury report then i just don't think the level of subterfuge imagined
02:01is really what's going on but i don't think that he did any favors to vrabel by not saying anything

02:13second biggest concern at this point might be just the injuries uh that are piling up on this team

02:39to make it incredibly difficult for them to dig out make and have a turnover free game this week

02:56has been dealing with his shoulder morgan moses so correct so all those things on down the line
03:02going against josh allen make it difficult for this team to go in against the schedule they have
03:09and just wave a wand and everything's going to be fine you know what i'm saying it's just i don't
03:13want to be a doomsayer but a healthy patriots team with drake may playing well was imagined to be a
03:22by me nine and eight ten and seven type of team yeah with injuries and drake may playing like
03:27you know not a drake may you have to ratchet down your expectations speaking of doomers tom

03:59to find see franchise quarterback i think needs to be defined a little bit we were talking the other
04:06night michael holly was talking on on dst and said he's he's not a franchise quarterback well how do you
04:11define that because i don't think that he is a franchise quarterback is one you can build around
04:16and say this is our guy we're not looking to supplant him we're not looking to replace him
04:22so that can be pretty wide but a true elite quarterback which i thought drake may was going
04:28to trend toward being is one who wins games for you on a consistent basis one who rise raises the
04:35level of all boats so i still think he's a franchise quarterback i just wonder more if he's going to

04:40an elite quarterback the way we thought or if this is going to be an experience that is going to
04:45last
04:45you know for the rest of the decade eyes on one of those jags again so i i have a
04:52scintilla of doubt
04:53but i'm still overwhelmingly convinced that there will be no other quarterback here playing and
04:59starting before the end of the decade can i just follow up on that i'm like if it's if he's
05:04not a
05:04franchise quarterback you know and i'm i'm kind of with you on this tom what what do you think is

05:10reason he's not what is it that's holding him back from being that franchise quarterback
05:15is it because it's skill is there is it between the ears what do you know it's not skill it's

05:20skill it's it's a determination that he wants to play the game a particular way and he's talked
05:25about i'm a gunslinger i like to take chances that's who i am that's what i want to do and

05:29patriots have tolerated that tremendously in terms of josh and mike both saying look we don't want to
05:35rein him in so that we do away with the great plays that he can make off schedule and off
05:40platform
05:42but if the gunslinger drake takes over too often during games when sensible drake needs to be present
05:51then you start to sit there and question it and and you know the question that we will be
05:55delving into as this season progresses and we as we get into next offseason is
05:59is he and caleb williams and jaden daniels come up for eligibility to to get new deals
06:06do you want to put 70 million dollars in front of him right now if the season doesn't improve and
06:11it's going to improve but if it's you know a c-level season from him all right tommy current i

06:18back to the the beginning of something you said because i let's let's just for a moment just like
06:25say or pretend that he did exactly what you were talking about where drake may went to mike vrabel and
06:31said hey my shoulder is injured please put it on on the injury report if that indeed happened
06:36would that make you think any different about his leadership or toughness
06:45no no not in the least no and again to just reassert that was a hypothetical exactly out of
06:51my posterior how did it happen right no i think that i think that given his inability to articulate
06:59that he was fine they spend all day together did somebody at one point say to him what's up with
07:05your shoulder is there an issue well i got dinged yesterday you get dinged well how bad i'm playing
07:11okay but is it hard enough to put on the injury report i would imagine it's more like that but
07:16i don't think that here i don't think there is a toughness issue and i don't think there is a
07:21mental toughness issue in terms of leadership i think there's a decision making issue which
07:27obviously goes to a mental aspect as well but i think he's a really good leader i think he's a
07:31really good teammate um and i think he is physically tough which he has exhibited since he's been here
07:39so but i let me go back to something else you said tom because you always spark the conversation
07:43oh boy in a great way so if it's not his if it's he's taking notes by the way i'm

13:06games and they don't have any other tight ends so there's really no remedy except okay
