00:00Okay. So Lions with an opportunity to bounce back on Sunday against the Jets against a bit of an old
00:10nemesis in Geno Smith. But the fact of the matter is, and you know, an old friend at Aaron Glenn,
00:18Jets look like they're an improved team, but not an offensive juggernaut.
00:23Although Geno Smith has put up astronomical numbers against the Lions D and now, you know, Lions have gotten called
00:33out a little bit and they, you know, they, we talked to golf about it on Tuesday. In fact, let's
00:38play that for you. This was when we said, Hey, Jared, what do you say to the fans that are,
00:43love their team, but are rattled and they've lost some faith because of what happened in Buffalo. And here's what
00:50he said.
01:20Okay, Jared's really good at answering questions like that. But at the end there, I thought that was interesting that
01:26he kind of added that little thing.
01:28We don't feel like we should, you know, have to defend what we're doing. Yesterday, you know, Jared, we don't
01:37know the context here. So I want to be careful of reading too much into this, but the topic kind
01:42of came up again as he was talking to the media in the locker room.
01:46You know, there's noise out there and, you know, there's noise out there and it's been noted.
02:17And then there was one more. He followed up and here's something else. He said.
02:40What do you make of this?
02:41Well, this is a guy who's been in the league now. This is what, his 10th or 11th season in
02:45the league. He's got plenty of experience. He knows how this works. He's played plenty of Thursday night games and
02:49he got that extra time and been on teams that have struggled, been on teams that have been great.
02:53So he knows how all this works. And yeah, there's a lot of chatter that goes on when you've got
02:58downtime and it's not a ton of extra downtime. It's an extra couple of days that they have off.
03:04And what I take out of it is that he has learned through the years, just tune it out. You
03:10know what? I'm, I'm worried. I'm, I'm, I'm in football mode right now. That's all I'm concerning myself with. I'm
03:15talking to my teammates, my coaching staff, and that's really it. I'm tuning everything else out. Friends text me, not
03:20doing it. Family text, not doing it. I'm just worried about football here because the outside noise can be a
03:27distraction.
03:27And I think what he's trying to say is that we need to avoid all distractions. And this is what
03:32I love as a player is that I like when, if there are vultures circling around us and questioning all
03:38we can do, we come together as a team because we know how good we can be. And this is
03:44where we can talk to each other about it and really kind of galvanize the relationship they have with each
03:49other as a team.
03:49Right. So I think Jerry Goff, I think back to one of our news with him, interviews with him, I
03:57think, I don't think it was last year. I think it was the year before when we said, well, there's
04:02some criticism coming out nationally. And he said, his response was, Ooh, what do you got? Yeah. That's what he,
04:08we were talking about. They must've been coming off a loss or whatever. And he said, Ooh, what do you
04:11got? He seems somewhat enthusiastic about it.
04:17And I think I said, well, Skip Bayless says, and he goes, Oh, nevermind. And it was, it kind of
04:22went viral and it was a funny moment. Um, but I feel like Jared Goff is like you, you love
04:32the chip on the shoulder thing. And I think Jared Goff likes putting a chip on his shoulder.
04:38And I think it's, it goes back to maybe being scapegoated a little bit in LA, um, shipped off to
04:47Detroit, which was supposed to be shipped off to, you know, Siberia. Yeah. Football Siberia. And he has taken this
04:55opportunity and run with it.
04:58And I think secretly deep down, he kind of likes that being called out and challenged a little bit. And
05:06I think what's interesting is it feels like the, you know, the calls coming from within the house here. It's,
05:11it's lions fans a little bit that are just starting to think that this era of lions football is never
05:20going to produce like the last year season was such a step back.
05:24And when you open it up and play a Superbowl favorite and give up fall behind 21, nothing and give
05:29up touchdowns, um, the way they did. And like 10 of 12 drives between the new Orleans game and into
05:35the Buffalo game.
05:38We are probably more quick in Detroit to feel as though it's not going to work out because it never
05:46has. We don't have the best we can do. Okay. The best we can do to find a situation where
05:53a team look
05:54like mung during the regular season and then did something to post season Hutch brought up with us when we
05:58talked to him earlier in the week, the, the Ravens game two years ago where they got jackhammered way worse
06:04than this Buffalo game way worse.
06:07Yeah. It was actually three years ago. And then was that what it was?
06:0920, 23 season, you know, uh, 30 minutes away from getting to the Superbowl. Yeah.
06:14They were completely non-competitive in every aspect of that game against the Ravens.
06:19They couldn't score. They turned the ball over a ton and they gave up points.
06:23Like they were giving out candy on Halloween. It was a terrible, terrible game somewhere in the first half towards
06:28the middle of the season.
06:29And yeah, I remember doing shows and people like this team's not going anywhere, not going anywhere.
06:34And then they, they get on a run and they start playing better football.
06:37And next thing you know, they win the first two playoff games in 30 years and everybody's back on board
06:42with them and get to the NFC championship game.
06:4317 point lead at halftime. We're going nuts.
06:45And we know what happened after that. I do think there's a chip on the shoulder for, for Jared Goff
06:50that he likes to cultivate.
06:51I think he'd like to pass that on to his teammates too.
06:54But I think more importantly, I think he wants his teammates to embrace the approach that he has taken.
07:00Now guys, it's football season. We're in it for each other. Okay.
07:04We love the fans that cheer us on every day when we go in and we're playing in front of
07:08them on Sunday.
07:08That's awesome to have them behind us.
07:10We know when we go on the road and we see that there's a huge contingent of Lions fans that
07:14are cheering us on.
07:14But during football season, we have to have each other's backs. It's it.
07:20It's all about us in this room, the 53 on this roster.
07:22The guys are on the practice squad to help make us better.
07:25We're the only ones that can change our fate.
07:27Let's get out there and do that and close out and shut out all the outside noise.
07:31And you heard him say, let's get back in our bubble.
07:33The longer weekend doesn't, you know, allow us for more probably downtime.
07:37And it's funny because athletes are wired so differently.
07:40If somebody, you know, sends a text into the show and, you know, I looked down and says, hey, Karsh,
07:44you suck.
07:45And I, what I do is go, maybe I do.
07:47And in Jared's case, Jared, and you hear a lot of athletes do this.
07:53I'll show you.
07:55I'll say, you tell me I can't do it.
07:56I'll show you.
07:57And so, you know, that's, that's a little bit of, of what I think's going on with, with Jared right
08:02now.
08:02And hopefully, and I think he is a strong team leader and a strong voice in that room that, you
08:09know, they can take this, take this and let it serve for whatever motivation it needs to be.
08:15It's funny that they've gotten called out a little bit.
08:18And, you know, I mean, the crazy thing about the NFC title game, that team, it's just people are sitting
08:23here freaking out about the secondary.
08:25And I get it.
08:27Kendall Vildor was on the field.
08:28Like, it wasn't like they were putting pro bowlers out on the field.
08:31I'd have to go back and look at what their whole secondary was.
08:33But that was a team that had some, some holes in the secondary that made it that far.
08:39It can be done.
08:42But what we're lacking is the, remember our team that looked like crap and then won it all.
08:48We don't have that in Detroit.
08:51We don't.
08:51And it sucks.
08:52And so the fans that I don't, I don't get mad at fans that see the first sign of trouble,
08:57or maybe it's not the first sign, but see trouble and think that this team's going to be no different.
09:06Vultures are circling, according to Jared Goff.
09:09Well, Eric Wardier tweeted this out about what Kelvin Shepard is talking about during their, the press conference today when
09:14they get up in front of people.
09:16So there's a gap that needs to be bridged.
09:18Obviously, the defense is not played well.
09:19And then it goes on to say, they held a meeting this week where they were completely honest.
09:25So the players got together, talked with the coaches.
09:28They had the airing of the grievances.
09:30And we'll see if that makes any kind of difference for Sunday.
09:33But this is something that week two, you have a hiccup in what you've done, or at least for the
09:39first, the last six quarters of defense that you've played.
09:41And I'm not going to put it all in the defense, but the defense shares a lion's share of what's
09:45gone wrong here.
09:46They're trying to clear it up right now.
09:48Let's nip it in the bud.
09:49Let's figure it out.
09:50And let's move on and be the team that we know we can be.
09:52We had no shortage of people who saw the Buffalo game as disqualifying and immediately called and told us so.
09:58Want to do something a little bit different here and carve out some time for people who find the two
10:05-game reaction to be a tremendous overreaction.
10:11That still believe in Dan Campbell, still believe in this offense, and still think that the defense can do enough.
10:20And we don't want, I mean, you can call up, I guess, and say, just because I'm a fan and
10:24I believe, but what tangible things are you hanging on to?
10:27And we'll tell you what tangible things we think are worth hanging on to.
