00:32Jared great to have you back for another season thank you for being with us how you been
00:37I'm good guys thanks for having me again I'm excited to do this again and
00:40have a lot of hopefully good Tuesday afternoon talks yeah we've had a lot of good ones and
00:48we've learned a lot from you over the years but let's start with what was the highlight of your
00:51offseason any vacations or was it was it golfing with Hutch or what um yeah that was one of them
01:00um my daughter turned one and doing her first birthday and then everything else that comes
01:05with her just uh learning how to walk and all sorts of different things has been the best part
01:09what what's the state of Michigan's summer activity or adventure that you got to enjoy this year that
01:15you maybe haven't done in the past you know we went to the zoo uh a few weeks ago and
01:21it's my first
01:21time going because I didn't really have a reason to until she was here um but she loves it and
01:27I was
01:28blown away at first of all how many animals they have in there and then how big it is and
01:33how many things there are to do it's just like a Detroit Zoo ad right now but it was it
01:37was really
01:38cool penguins number one I you know we didn't I didn't see the penguin she went to the penguins like
01:44a couple days ago uh what did I see that I mean the tiger was cool tiger was right there
01:48on the
01:48glass that was sweet the polar bear was cool um again I was shocked that that uh maybe I'd
01:55underestimated the capabilities of the Detroit Zoo if you could pet a bear or a tiger which would you
02:01rather pet um gosh uh probably a bear oh yeah they're grizzly bears they're massive too like that
02:09was really cool well there you go uh let's talk about the team uh Drew Petsing comes in to run
02:15the
02:15offense we've heard rave reviews and and we're about to see for ourselves what what he's bringing
02:20to the table as the offensive coordinator how would you describe uh what you know so far about
02:25Drew Petsing and what he's bringing to the Detroit Lions man yeah he's been great um I I mean I'll
02:33try
02:33to say something I haven't said yet he's been he's been great he's been everything and more um he's
02:38steady every day he's the same guy uh he's got great ideas he's a great leader he's great you know
02:44great holding people accountable um but he's very smart obviously that's kind of the calling card
02:49for him and and knows how to organize things and um it's just been a pleasure to work with him
02:53and
02:54he's and he's really uh great listener um he he hears what I want what you know our best players
02:59want how they want to get the ball how they want to do certain things and he defers to us
03:03a lot
03:03um but at the same time we'll put his foot down when he wants things a certain way and I
03:07think it's
03:07a really good balance right now and um I'm excited to see it come to life here this weekend
03:11was there a moment when you realized that it was going to click with Drew Petsing was there a moment
03:15you're like did we just become best friends yep no I don't know I mean there's been a bunch of
03:21those
03:22through the off season I think just the constant conversations and OTAs and training camp I mean
03:27you know I feel like I talk to him every day since he's been hired it feels like and just
03:31uh getting
03:32on the same page understanding how he wants to do things and then him understanding me and I just
03:37think the more that uh we communicate the more we go on the same page and um man it's been
03:42great
03:42it's been really good getting to know him and then getting to work with him it felt like in this
03:45off season there was a an effort starting at the top from Dan Campbell and Brian Holmes to make
03:51everything about business in the off season a little little fanfare we're just going to put our heads
03:56down go to work and get back to some of the things that got the Detroit Lions to where they
04:00are
04:00did you feel that inside the building was that something that was tangible
04:06yeah I think so I think uh Dan has certainly um been all over everything and um it's the way
04:12it
04:12should be it's the way he's always been and um he's done a great job of it uh to speak
04:16on Brad's
04:17process I don't think I could but he's done a great job as well but seeing Dan in front of
04:20the room
04:21the way he's handled himself uh this off season and gotten us prepared and gotten us ready to go
04:25it feels good man it feels really good and we do carry a little bit of that chip on our
04:29shoulder
04:29um now a little bit bigger than maybe a year prior that you know we did miss the playoffs we
04:34did come
04:34in last place in our division and uh we got some more to do you're beginning your 11th year in
04:39the
04:39league which seems kind of crazy uh what would you tell your younger self if you could oh man uh
04:47where
04:47do I start uh you know buckle up have fun enjoy it um I do feel like I've enjoyed it
04:52but um find a way
04:54to soak in every day and and uh do your best but yeah it's it's been a long journey it's
04:59been a fun
04:59journey and um I don't feel like I'm anywhere near done and that's kind of the most exciting part
05:05uh Dan Campbell was on our morning show today and was asked about you specifically and where he thought
05:11you were getting still getting better I'm kind of interested what do you what do you think he said
05:18I don't know man I don't know uh I try I try to get better in a million different ways
05:23every day
05:24and um he sees things sometimes that I don't even realize that maybe I've improved on that
05:29um have happened that he can see from afar but um you know I don't know I think there's a
05:33lot of
05:33mental things and and some some things uh protectionally up front and then uh you know in
05:40the run game that with a new line that I can help with a little bit um and I think
05:44I've tried to pick
05:45some of that stuff up he basically his answer was he basically he thinks you do everything faster
05:49you process information faster you read defense faster you do everything faster and would you
05:54think that that's accurate yeah I think so I think you know you play long enough you start seeing the
05:59same things over and over and um yeah it's it you're able to move through things a little bit
06:04quicker you're able to make your calls a little bit quicker pre-snap and um yeah I'd say that could
06:09be
06:09accurate uh do you run faster yeah you know that's certainly one of them
06:15uh I was I was I've been getting my miles per hour up I won't reveal what it is at
06:20right now but
06:21it's it's going up it's trending like it I like the aura ring is really paying off for you that's
06:26nice uh everyone that's right everyone's raved about jmo in uh in training camp I was out there
06:32for a couple days and saw a couple of deep connections that you made there he looks like
06:37he's poised to have this special season what are you most excited about with his growth
06:42and development as a receiver yeah he's becoming a complete receiver now I think uh when he came
06:49when he came in he was he was a speed guy he was a take the top off guy and
06:52um could only do so many
06:54things and he's really developed he's really worked hard at it it's a credit to him and all his hard
06:58work and he's become a complete receiver now he can run every route he can he can run the shallow
07:03he can run intermediate he obviously can go deep we know that but um he's a complete guy we can
07:09put
07:09him on the back side let him do some work one-on-one we can get him to the field
07:12and let
07:12him do some work in a concept combination and um he can do a little bit everything and it's a
07:17lot of
07:17fun probably the question we get asked the most about the offense is about the offensive line how
07:23would you evaluate a lot of new parts up there how do you evaluate that group yeah man they've really
07:29come together nicely um and they still are I think the the juice switch whenever that was a couple
07:34weeks ago when Cade went down um that kind of uh not had them re-gel again I thought they
07:42were
07:42gelling pretty well and then you know a new center comes in and you gotta gotta do it do some
07:46of that
07:46work again and I think it's really come a long way in the last few weeks of training camp and
07:50um juice has done a good job taking control and yesterday was a great day and um yeah it's it's
07:56going well right now you got Panay Sewell moving over to the left side uh obviously did that for a
08:00few
08:00games is is rookie season and then you've got the rookie on the right side have you seen some
08:05sort of mentorship going on with Panay and and Blake Miller yeah I think so I think he's done it
08:11in his
08:11own way and I'm sure you'd have to ask Blake that but um Blake's come a long way too and
08:15seeing him
08:16grow every day and I know he's getting little bits and pieces here from Panay and even Tate who has
08:20a
08:21year under his belt now is able to give Blake some bits and pieces and yeah man it's been good
08:25to see
08:25him grow and uh continue to get better and uh you know learn from his mistakes every week in
08:30the NFL defenses present challenges what stands out about New Orleans that is going to challenge
08:35you guys this Sunday yeah man um I I think the number one thing just being week one is that
08:41you
08:42don't really know what you're going to get I think you have an idea of course you watch the tape
08:45and
08:46you see what they do but um you don't know I I know Brandon Staley well and I know he's
08:51a great
08:51coach I know he's gonna have something different I don't know what it is yet um but he'll have
08:55something different he'll roll something out we'll have to adjust to so I think just that unknown is
09:00is the biggest thing you know on top of that they got great players over there and they're well
09:02coached and they're sound and they play hard and they got a little bit of momentum coming in from
09:06last season I thought they played well towards the end of the year and so yeah they're they're uh
09:10they're a dangerous team and um we gotta be ready to go do you prefer starting the season at home

09:14would you rather do that on the road I don't really care as long as it's not Australia
09:22yeah yeah I guess so but no it doesn't really it doesn't really matter to me I guess we got

09:26got games tonight don't we yes yeah we do um okay Super Bowl rematch so uh okay we're gonna not

09:33this every week but we ask the fans sometimes if they have any questions and Kang sits through them
09:37sifts through them our producer and has got one here for you today that he thinks is pretty good
09:42yeah sometimes it'll be football related Jerry sometimes not this one's not I bet you get a lot of
09:46crap on there sometimes just a little bit I mean you can you probably imagine all right so this
09:53one's from Alan in Belleville he says uh could you ask Jared which teammate would you trust the most
09:57to babysit your child and which teammate would you trust the least to babysit your child that's a good
10:04question trust the most um I think I gotta go I gotta go Panay or like uh Derek Barnes he

10:11they have older kids so like I can trust that you know I feel good about that Tyler Conklin he's

10:15older kids um you know I feel good about them trust the least uh I I saw St. Brown said

10:23the other day but it's gotta be Jameer I'd just be worried he'd lose he'd lose track of her he
10:27he wouldn't pay attention she'd start walking away he wouldn't he wouldn't know where she went
10:34that is fantastic and I know in the past you seem to have liked assignments now and again
10:39we actually are going to have Hutch on weekly this year as well so if you ever have any questions
10:45we need to ask Hutch feel free to suggest them if there's anything that you guys have them on before
10:51or after me though well we have them on unfortunately have them on before you and and we may have
