00:23this morning talk about their quarterback a little bit being an issue and um look i remember
00:27a nightmare game in carolina a few years ago yeah but late in the season and they remember they
00:33kept they were complaining about the uh surface of the of the field how rock hard it was yep um
00:39yeah sunday night football too it was funny because i was wrapping up you know all the stuff that
00:45everything we wanted to say about the jets game and i'm like all right who's i got next again i
00:49looked it up i'm like oh i completely forgot that this was a sunday night game coming up
00:54i did too until you just mentioned it oh really yeah i was i thought it was sunday after i

00:59i don't know why i thought it was a four o'clock game but you're saying sunday night it's a

01:03well look um it deserves to be one of the more marquee matchups obviously the lions are a big draw
01:08for primetime games but carolina is off to a good start bryce young is thrown for more passing yards than
01:16anybody else in the nfl through three games get over 900 yards passing already it's it's interesting to
01:22watch his trajectory as a quarterback in this league where people thought he was too small and
01:26now he's he's playing pretty well right now all right uh it's time to talk to the quarterback

01:46in the building coming off that win on sunday yeah man it's been good uh good to celebrate that
01:52sunday night and um get back to work yesterday and yeah guys you're feeling good it's always good to
01:57get a win and have a little bit momentum heading into another big one always lots of fun bits that
02:02come through the wins and and i think that the play where gives reverses his field is great and you're
02:07getting some attention for the uh the block and getting in the way of the defender but i was more
02:13impressed with your spin out that you had when the pass rush came at you which were you more impressed
02:18with yeah probably the block because i don't do the block very often um but i you know i still
02:24i think
02:25i could have done a better job there i got a little piece of them and that was enough and
02:28gives it the
02:29rest but yeah it's always fun to get out there and show i can do a little bit more than
02:33just uh sit
02:34back there with the ball you were mic'd up and talking with tate ratledge in a video that was out

02:39social media and you said you always take a poor angle is this part of your game that you actually
02:44are going to work on or is it just nah when it happens well i'm not going to get i'm

02:50to get much practice on it but i but i will uh every every time i get a rep of
02:54it in a game you know
02:55once or twice a year i'm able to stack those reps and learn from it well listen while you're chasing
03:00around a toddler you may have to take better uh better angles right that's right yeah yeah there you
03:05go get my reps there uh two huge moments in that game in both of those and there were a
03:11bunch of
03:12moments but two in two huge moments you went to isaac tesla and let's start with the fourth and two
03:17uh take us through that play yeah what a great catch by him man it really was i wanted to
03:23throw
03:23it down in a way but probably not that far down in a way um and he's got great hands
03:27he makes those
03:28spectacular catches kind of all the time now but for him to come up in that moment i don't know
03:32if he
03:33been targeted up until that point that was his first target of the game i believe and for him
03:37to make that catch in that moment was huge and we scored i don't know a play or two later
03:40and
03:40um it was awesome man he's doing a good job and then the first play of the last drive you
03:45hit him
03:45for 47 yards take us through that play yeah it was probably we had ran it a couple times at
03:51that
03:51point in the game it might be our third time running it um and they're gonna cover two defense the
03:57guy ran deep with jamo as they often do right now and he came underneath wide open have you noticed
04:02isaac coming on in practice yeah yeah he's been i mean i've noticed him for the last two years he's
04:08done a great job he just keeps getting better and improving and doing all the little things right and
04:12his effort and intensity and his willingness in the run game and when he doesn't have the ball is uh
04:18well we'll continue to flash on film and then get him the ball more but he's done a good job
04:22we've got a lot of mouths to feed man it's it's not uh it's a it's a it's a good
04:27problem to have but
04:27um yeah he's done a great job when you're making throws is there like can you break down a percentage
04:33if you have off the top of your head what you think it is anyway of passes that you're just
04:37throwing to a spot versus passes where you're throwing to the receiver yeah yeah i've heard this
04:44question a lot throughout my life i don't really know i i think i'm i'm periphery peripherally seeing
04:51the receiver but i don't believe i'm looking at the receiver when i'm throwing it but then sometimes
04:56i think i may be and i'm like peripherally looking at the space in front of him um i don't

05:03really i really don't and i and i try to think about that i think i think it does go
05:06back and
05:06forth and i'm not really sure how to answer that you had that one pass to uh to jamo uh
05:12over by the
05:12sideline where he made a spectacular catch i guess that was one example i'm thinking to myself wow he's
05:17either just thrown to his spot all right oh that's okay sorry don't apologize about a dog bark he
05:23likes he likes his bear barking right when i started this i know the feeling hold on give me
05:2910 seconds sure no problem uh this has happened to you before yeah well we did the shows during
05:35covid lois was a big part of the show for okay i'm back we're just saying i we went when
05:43we did our
05:43shows from covid i was doing the show from the house my dog was the same way so it's not
05:48an issue
05:48sorry you were asking me to ball through to jamo yeah it was i thought because that might be an
05:52example of hey jared just throwing to it to a spot and what a spot it is when you got

05:57it's going to run run to it like that yeah you know he's he's he's been awesome i mean that

06:03in particular we're in the same play twice again there and um you're in a great route they played
06:07cover two again and uh threw it you know over the flat player's head to him and again we're getting
06:12a lot of people playing cover to to jamo and for good reason you know he's he's an explosive player
06:18but um we got advantage of it if that's how they want to take away the big one the touchdown
06:23pass
06:23you through to gibbs the little floater um much different like that's one where you gotta it's a
06:28it's a free throw not a more than a you know a line drive a fastball uh take us through
06:34that play
06:35and the touch you put on that for gibbs to then catch it turn up field and score
06:40yeah we came out and then with a little quick snap um situation they were kind of not really
06:46set on defense and they had a pressure on which is why you do the quick snap is to kind
06:50of catch
06:51them off guard and not allow them to make their checks and whatnot but they had a pressure on
06:55they blitzed and um was able to get to them you put a little air on it to make sure
06:59it doesn't get
06:59tipped at the line scrimmage and he did the rest are you surprised in a play like that that that
07:04of all
07:04people it's jameer gibbs that's left alone like i would think that defense is
07:08the number one thing they're going to try to combat is jameer gibbs no it's not that simple
07:14um again they have a pressure on and we're coming out and stamp the ball really quickly
07:19um you know it's not as simple as guard the good players you know they're they're trying to do that
07:24they're trying to do their best to execute their call and we had a better call on that play okay
07:28so
07:29after that touchdown there was a little some pushing and shoving and you got in the middle were
07:33you were you playing peacemaker were you breaking up a fight there
07:37uh yeah i was trying to i was very aware that um we needed that extra point there um with
07:41the
07:42where the game was going and um wanted to make sure we had that seven point lead didn't want to
07:46make it
07:46a 50 yard extra point for for uh baits and um yeah but you know they hit gibbs kind of
07:52late there on
07:53that in that corner of the end zone and i did want to you know i did like the guys
07:56sticking up for him
07:57but i didn't want us to get a penalty you were sacked twice in the first two drives of the
08:01game and
08:01then a big goose egg the rest of the way who deserves the most credit for any adjustments
08:06that were made to keep you clean the rest of the way yeah well i think the o-line did
08:11a great job
08:11and passed for all day they really did um all five of them and and then i think the running
08:16backs uh
08:17picked it up as the game went on um i think they're early there was a little bit you know
08:21they were kind
08:21of getting after us with their linebackers and i think both vaki and gibbs you know from that second
08:26quarter on really stepped up and did a great job you know keeping those guys at bay and um you
08:31know
08:31hitting them hitting them in the mouth you know when they're trying to hit us in the mouth and
08:34that's the kind of way you have to do it if they want to you know run that game where
08:37they want to
08:38run down the middle with their linebackers we have to have those guys step up in those instances and
08:41make those plays dan campbell on our morning show today talked about how much information that they
08:47give you and how much they put on your plate and i'm thinking back to the second play the second
08:53half
08:53you spent a bunch of time barking commands at your offensive line and your wide receivers and
08:58then you hit laporta for a big gainer is that an example of you seeing a defense maybe changing a
09:03play or what was going on there yeah you know that one's pretty simple um i'm just we we we
09:11do we do a
09:11lot of two two or three play calls it's not um it's not i mean i say it's not rocket
09:17science but
09:18i think it is advanced for for guys on our offense to be able to handle two plays in their
09:24head and
09:24sometimes there's a third alert or a check and um you know that's not that's not it doesn't happen
09:30on accident you know we practice a lot of this we spend a lot of time on it it is
09:33intentional
09:33we have extremely smart players and we're able to do a lot of that and yeah sure it's my job
09:38to kind
09:38of get us to the right one but um a lot of it's dictated by the defense and how they
09:42want to do things
09:42and they'll show me a certain look i'll run play one they'll show me another look i'll run play two
09:46so um that play right there we got to play two and the rest was history final question about the
09:52the jets game and maybe it's more than just the jets game but every time the camera catches you
09:57and drew petzing talking i'm like i want to hear what they're saying i want to know what's being
10:00discussed how do you feel about the the drew petzing offense right now three games in yeah it's been
10:08great man he's great on game day he's a lot he's he's great to talk to and to hear where
10:12his head is
10:12that he's he's constantly asking me questions about what i'm seeing and why i did or didn't do
10:17something and he wants that information that feedback and so we have a good rapport on game
10:21day you said i am mic'd up this week so you will get a little glimpse into it hopefully
10:24of us chatting there and um but yeah he's been an awesome man and a lot of fun to work

10:28so playing at carolina on sunday night last time you guys played at carolina it was a 37 23 loss
10:34but do you remember who led the lions in rushing in that game
10:40i don't hope it wasn't me it was jared goff who led the way with uh 15 yards on three
10:48carries that's
10:49a robust five yard average my friend congratulations to you also threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns
10:55unfortunately in a losing cause but what what's it like playing it in that atmosphere in carolina
11:01because for a from a fan standpoint i feel like that's a road trip i'd love to make
11:06yeah it's fun you know it's a story franchise and they've done a good job turning themselves
11:10around here in the last few years and um i know it'll be rocking for them they're coming off the
11:15two wins and i'm sorry they're coming off the big win against the falcons and then the loss so they'll
11:19be they'll be out there rocking and i'm ready to go man it'll be fun it'll be really fun anytime
11:23you're playing on prime time on the road i know it'll be rocking and um it'll be great last week
11:28during the middle of the week you mentioned uh when meeting with the media the term the vultures
11:32does jared goff and this team draw inspiration from the vultures or doubters or people that that
11:40that question the lions no i i don't think that was no i it's not not about inspiration i think

11:48get to see who people are when there's some doubt or some you know chatter and and it's it's as
11:53much
11:53as it is um from the public as it is from your internal friends and family you know it's equally

12:01same i think you know when we have that long weekend after a tough loss everyone's telling you
12:06it's not your fault it's you know the coach is this and it's it's this player it's that player and
12:11i think that's that's where you get to see the guys that um ignore that and and say no i
12:16you know
12:17look myself in the mirror and try to get better and um it's hard it's not easy but uh it's
12:21it's
12:22always happening and that's part of our league i don't know if you had a chance to watch the game
12:25last night but uh your old buddy kalief raymond's having a nice start to the season at a touchdown
12:30last night you still talk to him yeah man leaf's the best yeah i'll shoot him a text here and
12:35there
12:36and um talk to him a couple weeks ago but he's playing great he is playing great you can see
12:40they trust him and um he's doing a whole job all right jared you ready for the fan question

12:51as a new dad did you happen to catch justin verlander's last outing at tell your state
12:55america park and what was your reaction to his daughter coming out making the pitching change
13:00did you tear up at all and have you found yourself maybe more in touch with your feelings since you
13:05became a father yeah good question jason absolutely um i did watch it i did see the clip um you
13:13can see
13:13him just lose it immediately and yeah of course you do start getting a little bit emotional seeing that
13:18tearing up a little bit and just thinking about you know one day you know down the line when my
13:22daughter's that big being able to run out there and say hi to me on the field or something like
13:26that
13:26and yeah a very emotional day i'm sure for him and um what a legend and what a great career
