01:12the season it doesn't really matter uh numbers wise but i think what steph curry what i picked up
01:18is he did say whether i get max or less than the max like that's the fact that he just

01:23words means it's on his mind uh and i think he's gonna if they present him a path where we're

01:29have a real good shot at x or y you know if you take five million less maybe it gives

01:35room and i think even more to the point uh maybe more money to re-sign draymond which i think

01:41important to steph uh but just shows like this is an interplay this is a back and forth so whether
01:47it happens right now which doesn't seem like the likeliest mid-season because they could make a
01:54trade like this is this is not next you know next off season this is really pointed towards
01:59february i think uh and would have a lot better idea of where they're going to be uh with the

02:05these hundred million dollars in expiring contracts not including steph this does not include steph
02:09uh this is draymond porzingis and jimmy butler and then draft picks they can trade or if that doesn't
02:16happen yes they could go into july and figure out where the steph contract would be i think they
02:21generally know uh but i think yes steph curry has earned every dollar he's earned more than every
02:27dollar that he's gotten and if someone could present to him say hey we think we can do this
02:32this if it's just another five million dollars eight million dollar whatever less than the max if
02:36he's willing to do it and he's steph curry he's an incredibly rational guy we know he wants to win
02:42and he and he emphasized that again i think that the two important things are he's going to stay
02:47with the warriors and then they're going to figure out what the best salary cap financial plannings
02:54whole sort of thing is going to be and that's going to take a little while how much does the
02:58jimmy return factor into this in other words if he is back a month before the deadline and he looks
03:03good does that become a greater incentive for steph to maybe make that move i don't know you know who
03:10knows uh and who knows even when he's going to be back hey the unspoken thing is one of the

03:15might get traded is jim butler right that's like that's like so that's part of this so it's all it's
03:20hard to weigh is his trade value going to be up his trade value going to be down uh is
03:25he playing so
03:25great that you might just want to extend him too for less than the max there's so many things in

03:31air that i think that's why curry unlike most players like every other player would say give me the
03:37max right now give it give it give it that's what i want that's what anthony davis is doing that's
03:41what james harden does not necessarily the max give me the most you can give me that's what we've seen
03:45so many other times what steph is saying is it's probably smart just to wait a little bit
03:51maybe not forever but wait some time and i don't know if the butler thing for sure is what it

03:58they also got to know you know what if they start off 2 and 14 like i don't think they're

04:03but without jimmy butler and moses moody there is some possible chance that they do that and then
04:08maybe a lot of this is out the window and they're not thinking about missus and trying to take it
04:11about next season so a lot of stuff is out there um but and i wasn't going to talk about
04:18this because
04:19it's up to staff but if he's saying it uh i think it's been discussed at least or at least
04:24broached as
04:25a topic there is some precedent for this kevin durant took seven million dollars about 6.8 million
04:31less than he could have his first redo with the words he signs a one plus one in 2016
04:37opts out of the second year and signs another one plus one his second year that first year is about
04:446.8 million dollars less than he could have and that was room the warriors used to re-sign andre
04:49godalla and sean livingston so this is there's some precedent in this i don't know if the kevin durant
04:54path is exactly the way warriors fans would want steph curry to follow but there's absolute like if you
05:00it can't just be to give joe legum money right that steph curry has earned every dollar times a
05:05hundred that he's gotten from joe legum it's give me a practical way this helps this this and this

05:38would be 17 million next season so you can probably guess that the warriors aren't going to be too far
05:45away from that number they're certainly not going to be way higher than that number and we know that
05:51poshemski i mean if you say it correctly here is going to want more than that so 20 19 20

05:58about right but uh it doesn't help the warriors not to do it really you know because that cap hold
06:02is a number that's not like you can get out of that number and sign someone else and then go
06:06go back and sign poshemski for 18 you can't do that so i think there's a there's a sensible number
06:12out there maybe the warriors want to be a little more free with it and you know not be extended

06:17in a couple years but you could always if you sign poshemski to 18 million 19 million a year
06:22you can trade that contract so i would guess something gets done you know moody got done

06:32as much uh i i think they like poshemski in a similar way uh they want him feeling confident in
06:39himself and in the team so i would you know i don't know i'm not going to put any money
06:43on it but i
06:44would think the likeliest path is for him to sign something listen if he's asking for 30 million a
06:49year then there will not be a deal so i don't know what he's asking for and we know pods

08:10problem are they facing right now uh with their interior defensive line yeah not a little one

08:21they actually going to start now because it's really getting thin and we know it's not just starters
08:26you need backups um drayson halton becomes an incredibly important player for them and he's a fourth
08:32round pick and they're they are lucky he's as good as he's been right away uh you're you're out with
08:38three defensive tackles already they're out two defensive ends we don't know if romelo height with
08:42a hand surgery he's even going to play on sunday they need bodies on the defensive line i think it
08:47is and we've seen them get pushed around a little bit already in the run game in two really good
08:51wins
08:52but i don't think the run defenses look that great maybe cj west knee issue was part of that
08:58so him going on injury reserve does make some sense but uh they're gonna suffer further injuries
09:04like that's one thing i always say i say this every week and i'm right every week it's not hard
09:07to say there will be more injuries it's the 49ers it's football um i think they're dangerously thin
09:12right now possibly to the point where even if they don't get anybody else hurt which we know won't
09:18happen that will get people hurt they're a little light and if they start getting more injuries they're
09:24very light i think they're gonna have to make multiple moves there maybe a trade i've already
09:28started right about that i think this team is good enough that if they suffer a lot of injuries they
09:33still can try to make up for it by trading some future first round picks get second round picks
09:36whatever and really bolster that defensive line i think that is the we know receiver is a major trouble
09:41issue also but i think defensive line is their number one i could use a defensive end and a defensive
09:46tackle uh and not just filling guys they could use frontline guys and i think this is definitely
09:52a major crisis for them right now this is week two we're going into week three you know what i
09:57mean
09:57how many more injuries are they going to get would you say that from their standpoint trading mac jones
10:02in this scenario is a non-starter probably not i get what you're saying and they certainly were
10:08looking at it in the off season and they didn't get the price they want it tells you the value

10:12they have for him like they have seen him win games for them when brock purdy's been hurt there's no
10:16guarantee that brock purdy is going to make it through this season healthy you know you would
10:20presume that but you don't know i don't think they have curtis work uh set up in their minds as
10:25someone who can win games for them as a backup so i think it'll be a high price and you
10:30don't get
10:31the high price now because you're you're bringing a quarterback like it's different if you're bringing
10:36a pass rusher or running back on the fly they're kind of like they know what they're doing they
10:40basically have two or three things they have to think about that's it quarterback has to learn the
10:43system has to learn the timing has to learn the receivers um it's a difficult thing to do and as
10:49i and i think i said this on social media is like you don't see the quarterbacks moving except for
10:54the teams that aren't even thinking about this year they're thinking about next year that's what the
10:57four niners did for jimmy garoppolo they were like oh and eight when they made a trade right they
11:02clearly weren't doing it for the playoffs that year it's just hard to extract the highest price you can
11:08get for a backup quarterback moving on to another team in the middle of season plus
11:13and i think his trade value was less than last spring because of all these quarterbacks coming
11:19you know in the 2027 draft there might not be a ton of great ones but i think there's a
11:24lot of good
11:24ones and so if you're talking about trading a 2027 pick to get a quarterback why not just draft a
11:31quarterback in the first or second round instead of giving up a first or second round pick i understand
11:36the idea i don't think it's out of the question but it's going to be tough and it's going to
11:41be tough
11:41to imagine that mac jones can go to a team now listen with 15 games left you know maybe he
11:46can
11:46save a season in the final 10 games not all 15 i don't know i know the giants certainly seems
11:52like a
11:52an eligible candidate i don't know that that would happen i know the four niners would want a lot for
11:58him they would want a lot for him um and you know it's just tough for me to see that

14:49him and him not reporting once he reports they will cut him they will cut him because they would
14:54owe him money if he reports and is on the roster on the active roster so they is if he

14:59he hasn't done uh much to his own detriment by the way but if he doesn't report he just sits

15:05it's nothing he does report they'll cut him to avoid paying him any part of his salary that's
15:09been frozen because he's not reported so it does not affect the cap very much either way they do save
15:15some money which again 49er fans insist on telling me and i get it it's just not that much and

15:27your roster even if it's on the reserve did not report so i thought okay maybe there's some weird

15:59money i don't think they need to i think it's written a little bit of retribution fine he's been
16:05a bad actor for them but he's still on the roster i'm like he's still there that name is still

16:27special teams role and jacob cowing so who is that fifth if brandon cooks beats jordan watkins
16:34to the active roster that's a really bad sign for watkins in my opinion so how do you see that
16:41playing out this weekend well i think jordan watkins not playing the first two games is kind
16:46of a bad sign right yeah i'd agree with you uh and i think they really want it seems like

16:52really want cooks to play now it's a lot to ask of them uh but i think there is some

16:58it's going to be a competition i don't know how much you can do on a practice field a couple
17:02practices uh but i'd say it's even money on that one but i think it's eventually going to be cooks
17:08you don't bring him in a veteran uh who has been in this league for a while and had value

17:14league for a while former first round pick and he was traded for a first round pick in 2020 the

17:18traded the first round pick to get him um i would guess it's going to end up to be cooks

17:24way they intended to be but if you know watkins might light a fire under watkins i don't know um
17:29i know i think either one of them could be the backup punt returner uh behind jacob cowling
17:34it's a good question i think they're showing their hand by making these moves and not just going
17:40automatic oh jordan watkins is back like that's what's happening they're not saying that and there's
17:44a reason for that um you know i i think he's looked okay in training camp and maybe okay in
17:52the
17:52preseason but he clearly doesn't do some stuff that they want him to do and um it's not a great
17:57sign it's i'll put it that way but maybe again maybe he turns it up and he goes catches four
18:02balls
18:02for 75 yards and makes a couple important catches i don't know um it just is interesting the way
18:09they're talking about cooks like he's going to be competitive for sunday right away uh that usually
18:14means the coaching staff is kind of meaning for him to be the the fifth receiver any sense of the
18:19timeline for christian kirk or michael williams as far as when they're able to get off the pup and
18:24are they trending toward being week five ready yeah week five i think is the goal i wouldn't say
18:31that's what's going to happen that's a trip up to seattle so do you want to throw these guys in

18:35haven't played up to that environment that team maybe you're not in rhythm it's artificial surface
18:43which i always remind people is a big deal do you want michael williams first game back from all
18:48this time off and acl surgery to be on artificial surface against the seattle seahawks i don't know

19:25now i mean there's a timeline on when he has to be on the active roster or he's out for

19:30so i imagine he might be back for five or six and then maybe some of the others after week

19:42what was your main takeaway in terms of what he learned and what he wants to do differently next
19:47year yeah i one thing he doesn't think he's gonna have to change everything you know he's brought into
19:54this for a reason he has very strong opinions he's obviously keeping 20 vitello he's keeping
19:58zach vanazian i don't think anyone had a lot of doubt about that but i just think it's very understood
20:05that he has but i think there's a little humility in this there has to be as he said he

20:10the hell me out of him like there were terrible stretches in this season the whole season was bad
20:16um and i think you know just that he volunteered i didn't even ask him he's volunteer we're gonna
20:21have to address the bullpen like he had been resisting that i think as talk radio knows full
20:25well um he was like this is how kind of and i don't disagree with the stands like you don't
20:30want
20:31to pour big money into into relievers look at the dodgers with edwin diaz and tanner scott back to
20:36next seasons it's it's you're basically paying for a guy's good year and then you're going to get
20:40his bad year like that's what happens when you sign relievers in free agency but i think there was
20:47an understanding that okay we got to approach this a little differently we got to approach the whole
20:50pitching thing a little differently um i think there's relief that devers has had such a big
20:56turnaround of the season i think there's an understanding that bryce eldridge is really
21:00showing as much as you're going to see at a 20 as you could ask for a 21 year old
21:03they got this
21:05incredible top line you know uh prospect list in the system and most of them are maybe a year away
21:11but i think it's more like okay this is about as humble as you're going to hear buster posey and
21:18not
21:18that he's arrogant he's not that he's just not one of these oh feel for me feel sorry for me

21:25up for giants he's not that guy um he is more like process it understand it this was rough we
21:33got to do
21:33better and there's going to be some changes here and there but uh and there's no question he's been
21:38upset at some of the coverage there's no doubt about that uh i think there's a radio station in
21:44town that that particularly has irritated my would be my guess uh and it's not the one i'm talking i'm
21:50talking on right now uh but that's my guess don't aggregate me whatever but um and that's been
21:56obviously very different for him he's never had that kind of criticism he never deserved that kind
22:00of criticism well you're president baseball operation team that's going to lose 90 what 97
22:04games um you're going to hear he i think he gets that part of it but i think it's been
22:09something
22:10for him to absorb something for him to feel like okay it's a bigger challenge now as he said it

22:15you never want to you're human you don't want to be criticized uh but the way he thinks about it

22:20like this is even more of a challenge and he loves challenges can he pull it off we'll see
22:24i think these young players really give you a sense that there is some positive direction here and
22:29possibly some great positive direction but um he's definitely been hit by it no question it's
22:37definitely not anything that he thought was going to happen when he took this job the loss is leading
22:41to the criticism but i think he's also someone who's pretty big time person he's a big time you
22:48know competitor and i don't think he's going to be like hiding in the darkness and that's part of it
22:53he's still doing interviews uh he's still like answering questions he'll do the post
22:58you know postseason presser on tuesday whatever um but as much as he could be like okay i didn't do
23:07a good job we're going to do better as much as he can kind of put those words out without
23:11saying it
