00:21When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and
00:28right, he will preserve his life. For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious
00:40of my sin. Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:51The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will
01:01not reject.
01:05Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and
01:13confess our many sins and wickedness. We should not justify nor hide them before the face of
01:20Almighty God our Heavenly Father, but confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient
01:27heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:39Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly
01:46when we assemble and meet together, to give thanks for the great benefits we have received
01:51at his hands, to give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those
01:59things which are truly necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:07Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart
02:13and humble voice, to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:20Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:27We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:33We have offended against your holy laws.
02:36We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which
02:42we ought not to have done. And so there is no health in us.
02:49But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:57Restore those who are truly penchant, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ
03:05Jesus our Lord. Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly,
03:13righteous and sober life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:22Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace,
03:28that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:34Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:42Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done,
03:50in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses,
03:58as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:09For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
04:19O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise. O God, make speed to save us.
04:31O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:37Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:45is now, and ever shall be,
04:47world without end. Amen. Praise the Lord. The Lord's name be praised.
05:01Psalm 147. Praise the Lord, for it is good to sing praises to our God. Yes, praise is pleasant and
05:12appropriate.
05:13The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem and gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.
05:24He counts the number of the stars. He names all of them. The Lord is great and has awesome power.
05:33There is no limit to his wisdom.
05:36The Lord lifts up the oppressed, but knocks the wicked to the ground. Offer to the Lord a song of
05:45thanks. Sing praises to our God, to the accompaniment of a harp.
05:52He covers the sky with clouds, provides the earth with rain, and causes grass to grow on the hillsides. He
06:00gives food to the animals and to the young ravens when they chirp.
06:06He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior's strong legs.
06:14The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers and in those who wait for his loyal love.
06:21Extol the Lord, O Jerusalem. Praise your God, O Zion. For he makes the bars of your gates strong. He
06:31blesses your children within you.
06:34He brings peace to your territory. He abundantly provides for you the best grain.
06:41He sends his command through the earth. Swiftly his order reaches its destination.
06:48He sends the snow that is white like wool. He spreads the frost that is white like ashes.
06:56He throws his hailstones like crumbs. Who can withstand the cold wind he sends?
07:04He then orders it all to melt. He breathes on it and the water flows.
07:10He proclaims his word to Jacob. His statutes and regulations to Israel.
07:17He has not done so with any other nation. They are not aware of his regulations.
07:24Praise the Lord.
07:26Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
07:30As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
07:35World without end. Amen.
07:45Psalm 148
07:48Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the sky. Praise him in the heavens.
07:54Praise him, all his angels. Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.
08:01Praise him, O sun and moon. Praise him, all you shiny stars.
08:07Praise him, O highest heaven and you waters above the sky.
08:12Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he gave the command and they came into existence.
08:20He established them so that they would endure.
08:23He issued a decree that will not be revoked.
08:28Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea creatures and all you ocean depths.
08:34O fire and hail, snow and clouds. O stormy wind that carries out his orders.
08:39You mountains and all you hills. You fruit trees and all you cedars.
08:45You animals and all you cattle. You creeping things and birds.
08:51You kings of the earth and all you nations. You princes and all you leaders on the earth.
08:58You young men and young women. You elderly along with your children.
09:03Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted.
09:09His majesty extends over earth and sky.
09:14He has made his people victorious and given all his loyal followers reason to praise.
09:22The Israelites, the people who are close to him.
09:26Praise the Lord.
09:29Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
09:33As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
09:38World without end. Amen.
09:44Psalm 149
09:47Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song. Praise him in the assembly of the godly.
09:54Let Israel rejoice in their Creator. Let the people of Zion delight in their King.
10:00Let them praise his name with dancing. Let them sing praises to him,
10:06to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp.
10:10For the Lord takes delight in his people. He exalts the oppressed by delivering them.
10:17Let the godly rejoice because of their vindication. Let them shout for joy upon their beds.
10:24May the praises of God be in their mouths and a two-edged sword in their hands,
10:31in order to take revenge on the nations and punish foreigners.
10:36They bind their kings in chains and their nobles in iron shackles,
10:41and execute the judgment to which the enemies have been sentenced.
10:46All his loyal followers will be vindicated.
10:50Praise the Lord.
10:53Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
10:57As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
11:02World without end. Amen.
11:08Psalm 150
11:11Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary.
11:14Praise him in the sky, which testifies to his strength.
11:19Praise him for his mighty acts. Praise him for his surpassing greatness.
11:25Praise him with the blast of the horn. Praise him with the lyre and the harp.
11:31Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing. Praise him with stringed instruments and a flute.
11:39Praise him with loud cymbals. Praise him with clanging cymbals.
11:45Let everything that has breath. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.
11:52Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
11:57As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
12:01World without end.
12:03World without end. Amen.
12:10The prophet Amos chapter 1.
12:14These are the words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa,
12:19which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah,
12:25and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel,
12:29two years before the earthquake.
12:33He said, Yahweh will roar from Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem.
12:41The pastures of the shepherds will mourn and the tops of Carmel will wither.
12:48Yahweh says for the three transgressions of Damascus.
12:52Yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment
12:55because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.
13:01But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael
13:05and it will devour the prince palaces of Ben-Hadad.
13:10I will break the bar of Damascus, cutting off the inhabitants from the valley of Athen
13:16and him who holds the sceptre from the house of Eden.
13:20The people of Syria shall go into captivity in Kir, says Yahweh.
13:27Yahweh says for three transgressions of Gaza.
13:31Yes, even for four, I will not turn away its punishment
13:35because they carried away captive the whole community to deliver them up to Edom.
13:41But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza and it will devour its palaces.
13:47It will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod and him who holds the sceptre from Ascalon.
13:54And I will turn my hand against Ekron and the remnant of the Philistines will perish, says the Lord Yahweh.
14:04Yahweh says for three transgressions of Tyre.
14:08Indeed, even for four, I will not turn away its punishment
14:13because they delivered up the whole community to Edom without remembering the brotherly covenant.
14:20I will send a wall of fire on Tyre and it will devour its palaces.
14:26For three transgressions of Edom, yes, even for four, I will not turn away its punishment
14:33because he pursued his brother with the sword, casting off all pity, his anger raging continually
14:41and he kept his wrath forever.
14:44But I will send fire on Tyre and it will devour the palaces of Bosra, Yahweh says.
14:53For the three transgressions of the children of Ammon, indeed even for four, I will not turn away its punishment
15:00because they have ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead that they may enlarge their border.
15:07But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah and it will devour its palaces with shouting in
15:15the day of battle,
15:16with a storm in the day of the whirlwind and their king will go into captivity.
15:22He and his princes together, says Yahweh.
15:27This is the word of the Lord.
15:30Thanks be to God.
15:44Mary said,
15:45My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:52because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:58For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
16:02because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
16:09From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
16:15He has demonstrated power with his arm.
16:18He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
16:25He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
16:32He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
16:38He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham, and to his
16:48descendants for ever.
16:51Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
16:57is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
17:08The Gospel according to Saint Luke chapter 4.
17:13Moved by the power of the Spirit, Jesus returned to Galilee.
17:17Reports about him spread through all the neighbourhood, and he began to teach in their synagogues, being honoured by everyone.
17:27Coming to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, Jesus, as was his custom, went on the Sabbath into the
17:34synagogue,
17:35and stood up to read the scriptures.
17:39He was given the book of the prophet Isaiah.
17:43He opened the book, and found the place where it says,
17:47The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has consecrated me to bring good news to the poor.
17:53He has sent me to proclaim release to captives, and the restoration of sight to the blind,
18:01to set the oppressed at liberty, and to proclaim the accepted year of the Lord.
18:10Then, closing the scroll and returning it to the attendant, he sat down again.
18:19The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him, and Jesus began.
18:28This very day, this passage has been fulfilled in your hearing.
18:35And then he began to tell them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled, even as you heard it being read.
18:45All were speaking well of him, and were amazed at the gracious words coming from his mouth.
18:55They said, Isn't this Joseph's son?
19:01Jesus said to them, No doubt you will quote to me the proverb, Physician, heal yourself.
19:07And say, What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, do here in your hometown too.
19:18Jesus added, I tell you the truth, no prophet is acceptable in his own hometown.
19:25But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's days,
19:31when the sky was shut up for three and a half years, and there was a great famine over all
19:40the land.
19:42And yet Elijah was sent to not one of them, but only to a woman who was a widow in
19:49Zarephath, in Sidon.
19:52There were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha.
19:57And yet none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.
20:03When they heard this, all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.
20:07And they got up, forced him out of the town, and took him to the brow of a hill on
20:13which the town was built,
20:15in order that they thrown him off down the cliff.
20:20But he passed through the cloud and went on his way.
20:24And so Jesus returned to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath they began to teach the people.
20:32They were amazed at his teaching because he spoke with authority.
20:38Now in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon.
20:43And he cried out with a loud voice,
20:45Ha-ha! Leave us alone, Jesus the Nazarene!
20:48Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are!
20:52You're the Holy One of God!
20:55Jesus rebuked him, though.
20:58Silence! Come out of him!
21:01Then, after the demon threw the man down in their midst,
21:05he came out of him without hurting him.
21:09They were all amazed and began to say to one another,
21:12What's happening here?
21:15For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.
21:22After Jesus left the synagogue, he went to Simon's house.
21:27Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever,
21:31and they asked Jesus to help her.
21:33And so he stood over her and commanded the fever, and it left her.
21:39Immediately she got up and began to serve them.
21:44As the sun was setting, all those who had any relatives sick with any diseases were brought to Jesus.
21:54He placed his hands on every one of them and healed them.
21:59Demons also came out of many, crying,
22:02You are the Son of God!
22:04But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak,
22:08because they knew that he was the Christ.
22:14The next morning, Jesus departed and went to a deserted place.
22:19And yet the crowds continued to seek him, and they found him and tried to keep him from leaving them.
22:26But Jesus said to them,
22:28I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to other towns too.
22:33For that is what I was sent to do.
22:36And so he continued to preach in all the synagogues of Judea.
22:42This is the word of the Lord.
22:45Thanks be to God.
22:57Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
23:01permit your servant to depart in peace.
23:04For my eyes have seen your salvation,
23:07that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
23:12a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
23:15and for glory to your people Israel.
23:20Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
23:24as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
23:28world without end.
23:31Amen.
23:35I believe in God the Father Almighty,
23:39maker of heaven and earth,
23:41and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
23:45who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
23:48born of the Virgin Mary,
23:50suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
23:53was crucified, dead, and buried.
23:57He descended into hell.
23:59On the third day he rose again from the dead.
24:03He ascended into heaven,
24:05and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
24:10From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
24:14I believe in the Holy Spirit,
24:17the Holy Catholic Church,
24:19the communion of saints,
24:20the forgiveness of sins,
24:22the resurrection of the body,
24:25and the life everlasting.
24:28Amen.
24:33The Lord be with you,
24:36and with your spirit.
24:40Let us pray.
24:43Lord have mercy upon us.
24:47Christ have mercy upon us.
24:51Lord have mercy upon us.
24:58Our Father who is in heaven,
25:01holy is your name.
25:04May your kingdom come.
25:06May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
25:11Amen.
25:11Give us this day our daily bread.
25:13Forgive us our trespasses,
25:16as we forgive those who trespass against us.
25:20Lead us not into temptation,
25:23but deliver us from evil.
25:25For yours is the kingdom,
25:28the power and the glory,
25:30for ever and ever.
25:32Amen.
25:38O Lord,
25:39show your mercy upon us,
25:41and grant us your salvation.
25:46protect and guide those in authority over us,
25:51and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
25:57Endue your ministers with righteousness,
26:00and make your chosen people joyful.
26:06O Lord, save your people,
26:09and bless your inheritance.
26:14Give peace in our time, O Lord,
26:18because there is none other who fights for us,
26:20but only you, O God.
26:24O God, make clean our hearts within us,
26:29and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
26:40Let us pray.
26:42O Lord, we pray that your grace
26:45may always be present and follow us,
26:49making us continually given to all good works.
26:53Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
26:56Amen.
27:04O God, from whom all holy desires,
27:08all good counsels, and all just works proceed,
27:12give to your servants that peace which the world cannot give,
27:17that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
27:21and also that, by you, we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
27:28may pass our time in rest and quietness.
27:32Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
27:35Amen.
27:41Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
27:44and by your great mercy defend us all from perils and dangers of this night.
27:51For the love of your only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
27:56Amen.
28:00Almighty God, who has given us grace at this time with one accord,
28:05to make our common supplications to you,
28:08and promises that when two or three are gathered together in your name,
28:12you will grant their requests.
28:16Fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of your servants,
28:21as may be most beneficial for them,
28:26granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
28:29and in the world to come life everlasting.
28:34Amen.
28:37With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
28:39and the love of God,
28:41and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
28:43be with us all evermore.
28:46Amen.
