00:00Let's talk a little Michigan-Oklahoma, the other big game from last week.
00:07And this was a disaster for OU.
00:14I'm sure that for the Michigan faithful will sound dismissive.
00:20Yup. You know what? Yup.
00:23Uh, this was a spot where Oklahoma's offense just could not get off the mat, shut out in the opening
00:31half.
00:31They finally responded in the second half with a touchdown drive on their opener of the second half and then
00:38followed it with a field goal drive.
00:40And then Mateer threw the game away, a pick that gave this Michigan offense an easy touchdown, putting them at
00:47the six-yard line.
00:49And they just couldn't make a play after that.
00:51John Mateer finished 17 of 33 for 189 yards, one touchdown and one interception, 5.7 yards per pass attempt,
01:01was not really electric on the ground either.
01:04I thought the story here was more OU and their chances as, you know, a national title sleeper slash threat
01:19taking a nosedive.
01:21Because John Mateer just looks like someone who really can't be trusted, uh, in the biggest of spots.
01:31My takeaway from this game, Kevin, is we knew going in Michigan had a good defense and a bad offense.
01:38We know coming out that Michigan has a good defense and a bad offense.
01:41So, nothing changed there.
01:43100% right that John Mateer played awful against a really good defense.

02:13I'm not sold on Michigan.
02:15We can go back and talk about the Western Michigan snafu.
02:19Yes, they played well against Oklahoma, who might have been overrated.
02:22They still have Iowa, Penn State, Indiana, Ohio State, and Oregon left to play.
02:27I think that math will take care of itself.
02:30But, Kevin, I wanted to bring this up because I know way too many Michigan fans work up here in
02:35the ESPN ecosystem.
02:37And they think, well, we're undefeated.
02:39If we go 10-2, the committee's got to put us in as a 10-2 Big 12 team, Big
02:4410 team.
02:45I said, wait a minute.
02:46Hold on.
02:47You might be 10-2 on paper, but everybody's admitted that you lost.
02:50I don't care what the record says.
02:52And this is not a computer system.
02:55This is not a you get points for wins like you do in youth football system.
03:00This is a committee who's going to vote on who's in and who's out, as you know dearly with the
03:05Notre Dame-Miami-Alabama last year.
03:07If you're a 10-2 Big 10 team, which they're not going to be anyhow, but if you're 10-2
03:13and it's coming down to the last spot,
03:15does the committee look at them as a 10-2 team?
03:18And does the committee say, you know, you're really 9-3 if you think about it.
03:22My Michigan friends all tell me a win's a win's a win.
03:24It doesn't matter.
03:25And I say, no, it does matter, because this is not about wins and losses.
03:309-3 does not equal 10-2, and 10-2 does not equal 9-3.
03:34The committee decides what they want to decide.
03:36And I think, and they said it themselves, they will look at every game and the entire body of work,
03:41that I think Michigan has to go 11-1 or make the Big 10 title game,
03:46or they're going to look at that as a loss and penalize them for it.
03:50I think it's just a super important thing to bring up, and I'm really glad that you did.
03:55There was a tweet between, from, excuse me, Chris Vannini, a friend of the network,
04:02that the FBS Oversight Committee says it cannot overturn the Michigan, Western Michigan ending.
04:11Why is that relevant?
04:12Because the quote from that committee was,
04:16the committee agreed that the instant replay protocols were not followed in the contest's second-to-last play.
04:22Had the protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different.
04:27What that means is Michigan lost, and they messed it up, and they had another play, and they won.
04:33But when something is so, there are moments where, I'm going to use a ridiculous example,
04:39but, like, six years ago, James Harden had a dunk that the officials called an airball,
04:48and it was incorrect, but the Rockets ended up losing the game against the Spurs by one.
04:57The problem is the dunk happened in, like, the third quarter.
05:01You can't just be like, well, listen, if, you know, one plus one equals two.
05:05No, no, no, we can one plus one equals two.
05:06Follow the protocols, the game's over.
05:09They didn't follow the protocols, they had another play, they'd win the game.
05:13So, I don't, to say Michigan is one and one is a little disingenuous.
05:20But to act like this is an unbeaten, nothing to see here, is also disingenuous.
05:26And if this team finds themselves in a debate, they're in a tough spot.
05:33But I think, to get back to Dave's initial point, Michigan's not very good.
05:39The idea that this Michigan team is going to be 10-2 is not very likely.
05:44And we're going to find ourselves looking back at the OU result,
05:51not that it saved Michigan's season, but that it really ruined Oklahoma's day.
05:55So, we're going to find ourselves in a row.
