00:06As TNT's Sharon Ramuta climbed to the highest point on the African continent,
00:11reaching Uhuru Peak at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
00:17The practicing attorney and chartered accountant added Kilimanjaro's 19,400 feet of trekking
00:24to her impressive bucket list of achievements, which also includes her journey to the base camp
00:30of Mount Everest. Ramuta took seven days to reach the summit as she battled frigid temperatures,
00:37diminishing oxygen and air pressure, while given little time to acclimatize. She was given a
00:43cheerful greeting on her return home by fellow members of Island Hikers last evening, and she
00:49credited members of the group for encouraging her to complete the final trek to the summit.
00:56So it's that you're trekking, it's minus minus zero degrees, and you are bundled up, and you are
01:04climbing a steep, steep hill. What you have to do is just remember, at some point, it's going to end.
01:14Either you end, or you make it to the top. And let me tell you, it can be exhausting, you
01:22can feel tired,
01:23you can feel to turn around and don't even finish the trek at the top. But what I want to
01:31say is that at some
01:33point, you remember a few words like your friend's name will say, Sharon, dig deep, bring it home. And those
01:42are the
01:42words that carry you mentally to the finish line. And I want to say that is what took me to
01:49the top of the roof of
01:51Africa.
01:53Well, congratulations. It's not for everyone. Speaking of Island Hikers, the Trail Hiking Group will host the
02:00second of its two local flagship endurance events with Brutal 2026. Scores of local adventurer and trail
02:08seekers and some from up the Caribbean islands are in TNT to conquer this country's second highest
02:14mountain peak of El Tukush. Brutal 2026 will see participants journeying from the foothills of
02:21Hobart Trace in Maracas St. Joseph before ascending the 936 meters of El Tukush to Maracas Bay, then back
02:29up the Loango Mountain before finishing back at the starting point at Hobart Trace. Outside of the
02:37challenge itself, the people to beat are the King of the Hills, Michael Honore, who has won Brutal on
02:43eight occasions. And the Queen of the Hills, Patricia Surias, who was not only the first female to cross
02:50the finish last year, but she also finished second overall.
