00:05The Met Office has forecast higher than normal temperatures for both Trinidad and Tobago from
00:11August through to October and of course when the temperatures rise people seek to cool down. I'm
00:18here at Maracas Beach where a number of families have come out early in an attempt to get some sun
00:24some sand and sea before the temperatures reach their peak.
00:53Well right now it's overseas with us like the chemistry with us Harvard and Maracas
00:57Bay although the water is calm we have a lot of current so what we just do is put on
01:03red flags
01:06my advice to the public is not to be in front of the red flag but between the red flag
01:13and listen to the live guard what we just have sometimes is a change of tide so sometimes the
01:17tide going up the road or down the road so the current have a tendency of going the direction
01:23at the tide so when you hear the light got blowing you don't feel the light got frustrating you
01:29because the flag which by the flag is that the current is not there the current there
01:32but when the tide when the tide is similar they come back direct in front of the red flag
01:44it's a tsunami a tsunami is coming yeah but the Met Office didn't say that you sure
01:52you see right there that's a wave that's not a wave it's a tsunami
02:08so
02:09well because she's fluffy i mean she feels warm a lot which is why we have her indoors
02:13and we keep her in the a.c but we just want her to cool down a little bit today
02:16feel the cold water and nice breeze
02:26so where are you visiting from and what brings you to Maracas Beach today right
02:30I'm visiting from the UK come to Trinigat because I like the people and I love the
02:36beach and obviously the sun safety is important on the beach right and we
02:53ensure that they are compliant we are working with the vendors as part of the
02:58exercise we want them to register with the ministry but heed to our guidelines
03:04so on operation safe practices at the beach all right just how you simply lay
03:11out your equipment we want to ensure that you know the public has a fair
03:16chance to use the beach right ensure that it's safe for in the event of an
03:21emergency that the lifeguards ought to operate properly soon we'll be erecting
03:27signs what is important though we ask we stress that the public do work with
03:32with the vendors as well to through this time adhere to our guidelines we don't
03:38want them you know asking for chairs to be erected in a certain area that that
03:43doesn't allow things like that
03:46doesn't allow things like that
