00:11Founder of drama making a difference, Andre Dillon says,
00:14the idea was inspired by observing how young people are navigating life
00:18in an environment filled with competing pressures and difficult choices.

00:26You wanted to create something.
00:30Entertaining, relatable, and thought-provoking so that they could see themselves
00:37and start processing how they're going to navigate now and their future.
00:47At the center of the production is the steel pan and instrument
00:49whose own history is rooted in creativity and resilience.
00:53The beautiful thing about the story of Pan
00:56is that it was booted out of, like the steel pan itself,
01:02it was booted out of resilience.
01:03And I think we as a society, we don't really give credit to our young people.
01:10They are extremely resilient.
01:12He says the production draws parallel between the way the steel pan evolved
01:16from everyday materials and the way young people continue to find ways
01:20to overcome obstacles.
01:21A lot of people talk about our youths as garbage, as waste of time,
01:27and this, that, the other.
01:28And in the earlys, the very same instrument was a dustbin cover or a biscuit tin.
01:37So to know that it has these similarities and it's booted out of resilience,
01:44I think it's a beautiful way to help our young people to connect to our culture.
01:51And rather than simply telling young people what they should or should not do,
01:55Dylan believes a theater can open the door to reflection and a conversation.
02:01Young people don't like to hear, I tell you so.
02:06They do like that.
02:07And theater have a way in which it could see underneath that
02:12and they could see themselves without being lectured upon,
02:16without being pointed at, you know.
02:19They could see themselves and they now could see and make certain choices,
02:24you know, and stuff.
02:25Oh, that's how I just look now.
02:27I do what I have for me.
02:27In addition to that, it also helps them to start conversations.
02:33PAN will be staged at the Central Bank Auditorium from September 24th to 27th.
