Today’s featured work, [Glass Citadel], was written based on a synthesis of John Berger’s "Ways of Seeing" and Michel Foucault’s "Panopticon," portraying a modern subject who has seized the sovereignty of the gaze in an image-driven society. John Berger famously noted that "men act and women appear," but Luna in this project completely subverts that dynamic. The massive floor-to-ceiling windows and glass walls are not a prison, but a strategic device that presents her as the protagonist of the world stage. Luna does not reject being observed; instead, she presents herself so brilliantly that she paradoxically controls and dominates the gaze and desire of the observer.
This touches upon the paradox of Foucault’s Panopticon: the office with floor-to-ceiling glass might seem like a place where one is easily monitored, but from the center, Luna possesses the entire landscape and reflects upon herself using the city as a grand mirror. The contrast between the cold texture of marble and the softness of silk and lace integrates public elegance with intimate eroticism, showcasing a multi-layered self that cannot be pinned down.
The line "I hold the key, I control the frame!" in the lyrics sings of a sovereign declaration that reverses the hierarchical order between the observer and the observed. Furthermore, the exclamation "I’m not just a subject... I am the one who rules the view" reflects the confidence of a designer who holds visual sovereignty.
