Hello, citizens of Acity!
Today’s featured work, [Reverse Gaze], was created by synthesizing John Berger’s theory of seeing and Michel Foucault’s concept of the "Panopticon," singing of a modern subject who has seized the sovereignty of the gaze. John Berger pointed out the traditional composition where "men act and women appear," but Luna in this project completely subverts that dynamic. The camera she holds is not merely a tool for recording, but a tool of power used to edit and coordinate the world within her own frame. By reversing the position of the observed object, Luna elevates herself to the master of a dominant gaze that decides "what to see and how to see it."
The line "Reverse Gaze! Breaking out of object frame to rule the view!" in the lyrics sings of the liberation found in jumping from being the observed object to the observing subject. Furthermore, the declaration "Master of the stillness, making every corner mine" reflects the dignity of a designer who carves out the fleeting moment to make it her own territory.
A time to reassemble the world through your own lens when the world attempts to trap you within a frame of its own definition. Following the gaze of the designer who hones her own intellectual power beyond the eyes of others, I hope you enjoy a time of pleasant contemplation as you edit the scenery of daily life into your own art.
