00:05Standing Firm Together
00:06Paul opens this section with affection.
00:10He calls the Philippians his joy and his crown.
00:14He is not flattering them.
00:16He is reminding them that partnership produces fruit.
00:20Partnership produces joy.
00:22Partnership produces spiritual reward.
00:25Paul sees their growth as evidence of God's work in them,
00:29and he sees their faithfulness as part of the reward God has given him.
00:34Partnership is not only shared purpose.
00:37Partnership is shared progress.
00:39Paul tells them to stand firm in the Lord.
00:43Standing Firm is not Stubbornness.
00:45Standing Firm is Stability.
00:48Standing Firm is Consistency.
00:50Standing Firm is the ability to remain faithful when circumstances shift,
00:55when pressure rises, or when challenges appear.
00:59Standing Firm is not something we do alone.
01:02Standing Firm is something we do together.
01:05Partnership strengthens our stability.
01:08Partnership steadies our faith.
01:11Partnership helps us remain grounded in Christ.
01:14Then Paul addresses a conflict between two women in the church,
01:18Euodia and Sintish.
01:20He does not shame them.
01:22He does not ignore them.
01:23He does not minimize their disagreement.
01:27He calls them to unity.
01:29He reminds them that they have contended at his side for the sake of the gospel.
01:34In other words, they are not enemies.
01:36They are partners.
01:38They are allies.
01:39They are co-laborers.
01:41Partnership requires unity.
01:44Partnership requires humility.
01:46Partnership requires reconciliation.
01:48Paul also calls on a trusted companion to help them.
01:53This is important.
01:55Partnership is not passive.
01:57Partnership is invested.
01:59Partnership is responsibility, and it is our responsibility specifically.
02:05Partnership is willing to bear the burdens of the other partner.
02:09Paul will later tell us in Galatians that when we bear one another's burdens,
02:13we fulfill the law of Christ.
02:16Partnership is fulfilling the law of Christ.
02:20Partnership steps in when unity is threatened.
02:23Partnership seeks to help someone else grow in places where God has already grown us.
02:29Partnership is the privilege of strengthening another believer's faith,
02:33encouraging their purpose, and sharing what God has taught us.
02:38Partnership is intentional.
02:40Partnership is responsible.
02:42Paul reminds the church that these women have their names written in the book of life.
02:47He is teaching us that identity shapes unity.
02:51It also teaches us that conflict is not something Christians can completely avoid.
02:56But we should be well equipped to handle conflict with the same attitude Christ displayed in chapter 2.
03:03When we know who we are in Christ, we can work through conflict with grace.
03:08When we know who we are in Christ, we can value partnership more than preference.
03:14When we know who we are in Christ, we can choose reconciliation over resentment.
03:19Identity produces unity.
03:22Identity produces humility.
03:24Identity produces partnership.
03:26This passage also connects back to sanctification.
03:31Standing firm is not self-reliant.
03:34Standing firm is spirit-reliant.
03:37Unity is not self-improvement.
03:39Unity is spirit partnership.
03:42Reconciliation is not natural.
03:45Reconciliation is supernatural.
03:47The Holy Spirit empowers us to stand firm, to pursue unity, and to invest in others.
03:55Without grace we drift.
03:57Without grace we divide.
03:59Without grace we rely on performance.
04:02But with grace we become friends and allies of the cross.
04:06As you reflect on today's reading, ask God to help you stand firm in partnership.
04:12You do not have to carry your calling alone.
04:15You do not have to navigate conflict alone.
04:18You do not have to pursue unity alone.
04:22Let partnership challenge you to invest in someone else's growth.
04:26Let partnership strengthen your stability.
04:29And let the privilege of standing firm together become the pathway through which Christ continues his work in you.
