00:04Confidence in Christ Alone
00:06Paul begins this section by warning the Philippians not to place confidence in the flesh.
00:12He is not talking about physical strength. He is talking about spiritual self-reliance.
00:19He is talking about the temptation to trust the church you attend, the small group you lead,
00:24the ministries you serve in, or the way you carry out your Christianity for others to see.
00:30Paul lists his own credentials, and then he does something shocking. He calls them loss.
00:36He calls them worthless. He calls them distractions compared to the privilege of knowing Christ.
00:43This is where privilege takes a deeper turn. Privilege is not only the privilege of serving
00:49others. Privilege is the privilege of surrender. Paul teaches us that the greatest confidence we
00:56can have is confidence in Christ alone. Everything else fades. Everything else shifts. Everything
01:03else can be taken away, but Christ remains. Christ sustains. Christ strengthens. Christ becomes the
01:11center of our identity and the source of our purpose. Verse 10 gives us a picture of sanctification
01:18that is both powerful and personal. Paul says he wants to experience the power that raised Jesus from
01:25the dead. He is not talking about a moment. He is talking about a lifestyle. Resurrection power raises
01:33us. It raises our morals. It raises our joy. It raises our partnership. It raises our purpose.
01:41This is sanctification. The Holy Spirit uses the same power that raised Jesus from the dead
01:48to live in us, form us, form us, shape us, and ultimately release us to be visible partners of the
01:54gospel.
01:54Paul also reminds us that without grace we are hopeless. Without grace we are joyless. Without grace
02:03we must rely on performance. And performance always wears us down. Performance makes us tired.
02:10Performance makes us anxious. Performance makes us insecure. Grace frees us from performance.
02:18Grace empowers us to be intentional. Grace strengthens us to walk in obedience. Grace helps us place our
02:25confidence in Christ instead of ourselves. Paul says he wants to be found in Christ, not having a
02:32righteousness of his own, but the righteousness that comes from God. This is grace. Grace is the power
02:39to do what pleases God. Grace is the enabling ability that makes intentional obedience possible.
02:46Grace is the strength that helps us surrender our confidence in ourselves and place our confidence
02:53in Christ. Sanctification is not self-improvement. Sanctification is spirit partnership. Confidence in
03:01Christ also protects us from chasing the wrong things. When we chase platforms we lose joy.
03:08When we chase applause we lose peace. When we chase validation we lose purpose but when we chase
03:15Christ we chase purpose. When we chase Christ we chase joy. When we chase Christ we chase the life
03:22God designed for us. Confidence in Christ frees us to serve with humility, to give with joy,
03:29and to walk with peace. As you reflect on today's reading, ask God to help you place your confidence
03:35fully in Christ. You do not have to trust your own strength. You simply have to surrender to his.
03:43Let grace empower your choices. Let resurrection power raise your life. And let the privilege of
03:50knowing Christ become the foundation of your purpose.
