00:07The Partnership of Practice
00:09Paul shifts from peace to practice. He has just told the Philippians that the peace of God will
00:16guard their hearts and minds. Now he tells them how to keep their minds in a place where peace
00:22can flourish. Peace is not passive. Peace is cultivated. Peace is strengthened by what we
00:29choose to think about, what we choose to dwell on, and what we choose to practice. Paul gives them a
00:36list of things to think about. He tells them to think about what is true, what is honorable,
00:42what is right, what is pure, what is lovely, and what is admirable. He tells them to think about
00:48things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Paul is teaching us that our minds need direction.
00:54Our minds need discipline. Our minds need partnership. Partnership begins in the mind.
01:02These qualities are the result of intentionality. While the Holy Spirit performs our sanctification,
01:09it does not happen unless we are intentional about the partnership. Intentional partnership
01:15leads to intentionality about the partners God is placing in our lives, whether from our local church,
01:21our small groups, our workplace, or even strangers we bump into in day-to-day life. What we think about
01:29shapes what we practice. What we dwell on shapes what we become. This connects back to chapter 2.
01:36Paul told us to adopt the attitude of Christ. He told us to take an interest in others. He told
01:43us to
01:44walk in humility. Now he tells us to think in ways that reflect Christ. Consideration, generosity,
01:52gentleness, and humility begin in the mind before they show up in our actions. Partnership begins in
01:58the mind before it shows up in our relationship. Paul then tells them to put into practice everything
02:05they learned, received, heard, and saw in him. Partnership is not only about presence.
02:11Partnership is not only about prayer. Partnership is not only about peace. Partnership is practice.
02:20Partnership is the willingness to take what God has taught us and put it into action. Partnership
02:26is the willingness to take what we have seen in faithful believers and imitate it with diligence.
02:33Partnership is responsibility, and it is our responsibility specifically.
02:38Paul is teaching us that peace is not only something God gives. Peace is something God grows.
02:45Peace is strengthened when we practice what Christ has taught us. Peace is strengthened when we think
02:52about what reflects his character. Peace is strengthened when we partner with the Holy Spirit in our thoughts
02:58and in our actions. Peace is strengthened when we invest in others with presence, generosity,
03:04and consideration. Peace is strengthened when we put truth into practice.
03:10Then Paul gives us another promise. He says that when we think about these things and practice these
03:16things, the God of peace will be with us. Peace is not the absence of trouble. Peace is the presence
03:23of Christ. Peace is the presence of the Prince of Peace. Peace is the presence of the God who walks
03:30with us,
03:31guards us, guards us, and guides us. Partnership is presence. Sometimes partnership is not words,
03:38advice, or wisdom. Sometimes partnership is simply showing up in the middle of someone else's problems.
03:45And when we show up, the God of peace shows up with us. As you reflect on today's reading,
03:51ask God to help you practice partnership. You do not have to shape your thoughts alone.
03:56You do not have to cultivate peace alone. You do not have to put truth into practice alone.
04:04Let partnership challenge you to think differently. Let partnership challenge you to practice faithfully.
04:11And let the presence of the God of peace become the pathway through which he continues his work in you.
