00:07One of the largest exhibitions dedicated to Latin America in China presents the
00:12legacy of the Asian Mayan Indian civilizations at one of the country's
00:16leading museums. From the Capital Museum in Beijing, our correspondent Bruno Falsis
00:19with the story. The Capital Museum in Beijing is hosting the largest temporary
00:28exhibition in the institution's history. Covering an area of nearly 10,000 square
00:34meters, the exhibition brings together around 800 pieces from more than 20
00:40cultural institutions in Mexico and Peru. Under the title Maze, Goat and Jaguar, the
00:47exhibition showcases the legacy of the Maya and Indian civilization and explores, among
00:53other aspects, the significance of precious metals over 3,000 years.
01:02In China, we have a saying that diplomatic relations between countries are based on
01:07mutual understanding among their peoples. Therefore, cultural exchanges play a very
01:13important role in bringing the two peoples closer together. Latin America and China
01:18China are geographically far apart, but we have many similarities. The Carol civilization
01:25in Peru is more than 5,000 years old, on a par with China's Liangzhu civilization. Exhibitions
01:32like this are a very good bridge to show the Chinese public the Andean and Maya
01:36civilizations and what Latin America is like.
01:40The Peruvian presence occupies a prominent place in the exhibition, with pieces representing
01:46different expressions of the ancient Indian civilizations, including the Moshe culture and the Inka civilization.
01:55These pieces reflect their beliefs, ways of life, and artistic expressions. Nearly 80% of the pieces are being displayed
02:04in China for the first time,
02:06why Hof had never previously left Peru for an international exhibition.
02:14Cultural exchange is a very important pillar within the framework of all cooperation between China and Latin America.
02:22Because only when people get to know one another can we understand a culture or a civilization.
02:29That is how we can avoid prejudice and prevent conflicts.
02:34That is why this exhibition gives us that opportunity to learn how other civilizations think and act.
02:43Beyond the objects themselves, the exhibition also allows visitors to find points of contact between the ways the ancient Indian
02:52civilizations and Chinese culture understood the world.
02:57It is a bridge because here in China we have yin and yang, which follows the same principle.
03:02So, although at that time we had two civilizations that emerged separately, profound principles, such as understanding that there are
03:09opposing and complementary forces, already united us.
03:15The exhibition is part of policies promoted by the Communist Party of China to strengthen the role of museums and
03:23build China into a socialist cultural power.
03:26objectives included in the 15 five-year plan.
03:30The strategy seeks to expand public access to culture and heritage while promoting exchange and mutual learning among different civilizations.
