00:00And the metropoly of Suzhou is one of China's ancient gems where tradition is preserved both in its centuries-old gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in Kipao, an example of intangible cultural heritage reflecting the city's rich history and culture.
00:18Our correspondent Bruno Falzi with more.
00:21In southern China lies the historic city of Suzhou, with over 2,000 years of history.
00:28Its famous museums and gardens, our UNESCO World Heritage Site, are visited by millions of tourists every year, such as the Humble Administrator's Garden, built in the 60th century.
00:42Yes, I recently visited the Suzhou Museum, the Suzhou Bay Museum, the Humble Administrator's Garden Museum, the Sixth Joyce Museum, the Ming Dynasty Embroidery Museum, and many others.
00:57I love them all.
00:59And above all, I would recommend the Humble Administrator's Garden because it's huge.
01:04It's one of the four most important and well-known gardens in all of China, and it has mountains, ponds, lakes.
01:20It's very beautiful, and transportation is very convenient.
01:24Tourists from all over China come here.
01:27The garden, with its pavilions, bridges, and lakes, combines water, rocks, bamboo, plants, and architecture, creating an harmonious landscape in the heart of the city.
01:42Each element represents the philosophy of ancient scholars, inviting contemplation and reflection.
01:49We're going to talk about the design of the yard.
01:56We have these bamboos here, and to the right side, we have Taihu rocks.
02:02Of course, they are from Suzhou.
02:03To the left side, these are from Anhui Lingbi rocks.
02:08And as a very famous scholar, Su Dongpo once said, he would rather eat without meat than live without bamboo.
02:16So bamboo, for him, is really important.
02:19Scholars think bamboos, they are modest, because if you look at the bamboo, the bamboos, they are hollow.
02:26These are hollow.
02:28So that is the spirit of the scholar.
02:30That's why they are always in pursuit of the bamboo spirit.
02:35Suzhou is also renowned for its intangible cultural heritage, especially chipao making and embroidery.
02:44These traditional techniques are kept alive, reclaiming their cultural value and national pride,
02:52and connecting tradition with modern life.
02:56People realize the importance of their own culture of China, so it rises again.
03:03And this kind of traditional clothes contains really interesting aesthetics.
03:10As you can see, there are bright contrasts here in the chipao.
03:16And also, this kind of skill is called Suzhou embroidery.
03:23It's kind of like a really traditional technique that we have in our culture.
03:31So this kind of clothes combines both culture significance and also, let's say, the pride of our Chinese people.
03:44In Suzhou, the sanctuary's old gardens and the chipao reflect the richness of its cultural heritage,
03:55where tradition and modernity met, solidifying the city as a global benchmark for history and culture.
