00:22the vibes are still running high my friend uh these podcasts are always uh a lot easier smoother
00:29and a lot more fun to do after a win uh big one big one sunday night well if that's
00:38the case then
00:38this should be a breeze right i mean uh it's it's um usually um in these things we don't run
00:44out of
00:45too many good things to say you know it's easy to to be positive and things and sometimes when a
00:50team
00:50plays poorly you kind of pile on and pile on okay okay that's enough let's get on to the next
00:55week
00:55so yeah i mean you couldn't script it any better you know it was a crappy rainy morning right and

01:01ended up being a beautiful evening a little warm you were down there working hard i was up in the
01:05air-conditioned press box but um you know good good night you know good you know september night for
01:11football place was packed certainly a lot of cowboy fans but not this any kind of takeover you know
01:16giants fans in the house uh team comes down and scores right away giants never trailed they scored
01:22a touchdown in all four quarters um and put the game away you know we'll talk about it in just
01:28really really strong fashion so um you know if you could have a checklist for what giants fans wanted
01:34to see in john harbaugh's first game as the head coach check check check check check and you know
01:39on to week two and the vibes and the entertainment were there it matched the on the field product and
01:45how long it's been a long time since you've seen that to see everything that they put in with the
01:50fireworks or maybe the century red uniforms or have an lt but they used to be ringing the bell
01:55i think this time was what jason sehorn uh and tiki barber that did the gold big blue chant you
02:01bring
02:01out the you get the flags the gold big blue flags you have the led lights all of the above
02:07you have
02:08the wristbands that light up and then like you said you have a football team that puts together a
02:14complete game and kind of enforce their will on someone um to start the season off and let's just
02:21go into your debuts whose debut deserves the storyline the head paul short storyline in the new york post
02:31no you forgot somebody tiki barber jason sehorn and my man kerry collins don't forget kerry collins
02:37kerry collins yeah sorry one of my favorite giants players of all time really i i you know a great
02:45deal of respect you had great um personal uh professional relationship with kerry collins he
02:51was there he doesn't come that often he was he was he and jason sehorn and tiki barber from the
02:562000
02:56super bowl team yeah good stuff um look jackson dart was great he was great you know he he he
03:06played a
03:06great football game his stats were great his his quarterback rating was great his poise was great
03:13um his decision making superb um you know oh we we can't he's got he's a good athlete we can't
03:20take
03:21that away from him don't take it away from him let him run just let him run be smart i
03:26mean the cowboys
03:27i think two or three times got burned on designed runs uh um one for 22 yards um when he
03:34had to take
03:35off he ran out of bounds got hit laid out of bounds the giants get a 15 yard penalty penalty
03:40out of
03:40that great uh one time he slid feet first one time he kind of dove head first but protecting himself
03:46so no one's taking uh jackson darts legs away from him but you know if he does it smartly he's
03:51a weapon
03:52what he was a second leading carrier 11 carries 54 yards that's tremendous uh uh great touch on his
03:59throws uh great protection um under center more than we've ever seen him as a rookie and looked
04:08really good the the the play action game worked beautifully and um you know we have to you know
04:13what have we been saying all spring and summer right you know what have i been warning right to you
04:19brandon you know it's a new offense it's a brand new system it's it's the system's never been seen
04:24before i mean this is not the chief system or the raven system or or or or the titan system
04:30with
04:30with um or the bengal system with brian callahan this is brand new put together especially for this
04:36giants team and it's going to take time and guess what week one it did not take time so um
04:42and even
04:42john harbaugh said that after the game he said look jackson dart was kind of running that old miss
04:47offense it was like an extension of that as a rookie to get him ready to play in the nfl
04:52he's not doing
04:52that anymore and um he was good i mean he was really good i mean you know the giants fans
04:57are
04:57excited about malik coming back and harbaugh and isaiah likely and you know arvel reese and all
05:03these new guys and the second year quarterback in game one he's never started a season opener before
05:09he outplayed dak prescott and dak prescott is damn good so um i have nothing but good things to say
05:15about jackson dart my biggest thing is how when you looked at them throughout the course of training
05:22camp and i'm just meaning the team as a whole and how they they kind of shaped and branded their
05:27identity and it all started down in white sulfur springs when you were watching practice and you're
05:33like huh didn't maybe the offense didn't look as great as you would want it to in a training
05:38training camp practice but then you realize are you going up against this nara wilson defense these
05:43guys are going to be getting after it throughout the course of the season and then again you're you're
05:48putting in you're installing in offense and although it may not be kansas city's offense you're starting
05:54to see little ways that matt nagy is using his personnel in a candy kansas city is type way because
06:02if you're under andy reed you're out there patrick mahomes you have a dual threat mobile quarterback
06:08like that so you can kind of take away from what you learned from andy reed and mahomes and have
06:13your
06:14own little version your own little sauce for that for when it comes to jackson dart but using the
06:19tight end isaiah likely's debut is everything that we saw it was going to be and we hope what kind
06:24of
06:25what everyone was excited thinking what darren waller was going to bring when you brought him in
06:29um coming off those hundred catch seasons i know he was he was injured when he came in but you
06:34were
06:34hoping to get some sort of a piece of what darren waller was because you understand how a tight end
06:41could
06:41have done good really well for daniel jones but now you got a tight end for jackson dart and that
06:47connection paul i've been telling people i was like draft this dude in fantasy he has a chance to have
06:5280 90 something plus catches isaiah likely man really showed that he's going to be that threat
07:00opposite of malik and he's there's going to be games like this where he has more catches you know he
07:05has
07:06more touches targets or catches than the malik and i don't think malik gets upset with that because
07:12you realize how that's going to open things up for you like you have a tight end that's
07:17a sure-handed tight end you got to adjust the defense and that opens things up for a wide receiver
07:22one you can't do better than eight targets and eight catches you know what i mean and flawless victory
07:30and two touchdowns i mean two touchdowns one he ran free and and you know one one i one key

07:35down caleb downs you know the really impressive rookie from dallas he was right on him i mean he
07:41was right on him and and dart threw it a dart i mean dart threw it hard over the middle
07:46it was a
07:46short completion for first down that's a hard hands catch for a guy to make with with a safety draped
07:52over you and likely look like a vacuum cleaner you know he's just he's just you know picking that ball
07:57out of the air this this look and it was really funny wasn't it because you know john harbaugh was
08:03asked
08:03you know hey do you expect that from isaiah likely is that you know you did he you know go
08:08above and beyond and he said yeah i expected it yeah we paid him a lot of money we paid
08:13him a lot
08:14of money to come in here you know that's what we wanted for that i mean you know he knows
08:18him from
08:18from four years in baltimore and they made him you know he was their high you know high price free
08:23agent signing so it's like i mean and it was just way of saying you get what you pay for
08:28we paid a lot
08:28for isaiah likely and we made him tight end one right away and he was tight end one all through
08:34the summer and he's tight end one he played um you know a ton of snaps in the game and
08:40and and look
08:41look tremendous so um yeah fantasy football owners you know if i'm sure he was drafted but if he wasn't
08:48active then shame on you and he's going to be a must activate every week as long as he's healthy
08:53and to show you what type of guy he is paul go look at scataboo's touchdown when he's leading him
08:59in the end zone and he's turning he's like hyping it up like he's excited i think giants fans are
09:05gonna fall like they're gonna they're gonna like this guy because i mean that shows that's a selfless
09:10act and what is it some you know some people within this team or the people fans have questioned
09:16whether some of the players have cared now to see like mark trustman used to always talking about
09:22wanting it more for somebody else than you want it for yourself seeing him hype like that leading
09:27uh scataboo in the end zone for that touchdown that was cool to see because you could see him being
09:32like all right y'all brought me here you paid me the money harbaugh i'm gonna be a leader for
09:37you
09:37and i'm gonna be a guy i'm gonna give you production as well but you mentioned what what about that
09:42that
09:43that play design on that touch i mean you're saying isaiah isaiah likely was selfish selfless and
09:48hyping him up because he had nothing to do right that misdirection i mean i mean you know he he
09:55didn't even have to put a block in it was i mean likely could have scored if he had the
09:58ball and
09:59cam scored easily untouched so i mean matt nagy that and and greg roman you know who's the orchestra
10:06i mean that play design was beautiful you know what was it from the three yard line or something like
10:11that beautiful so yeah i mean i i mean likely as soon as the snap he looked up and that's
10:17why he was
10:17celebrating so quickly it's like this is a touchdown it's the you know it was the first right first
10:23series of of the season for the giants so play design big time so to give even more credit on
10:29the play design his touchdown on his corner route they ran the it was there's a whip route where i
10:34think it was mooney the linebacker and the corner both jumped it and uh likely had the leverage on the
10:40safety for the corner route now that type of throw it was it was where it needed to be had
10:45to be
10:45over top of everyone how many times have we seen that ball dropped someone not come down with that
10:51ball as he had to go up athletically extend with his arms and then get his feet in brown and
10:59then
10:59survive the fall how many times have we seen that bad luck and things pop out you know that ball

11:05out so it was great to see a money guy a playmaker make a play javon holland money guy made

11:11caught that football on that dac prescott uh interception but you mentioned caleb downs i guess
11:16we get that's that's part of the debuts right there because we look at arville reese cc mawanoa
11:22that's the giants uh first round everyone talks about passing up caleb downs cc mawanoa at with the
11:2910th pick in his first debut what did you see i saw nothing and that's good for a guard right
11:39for a good thing yeah i saw nothing i saw nothing um he you know he obviously he played every
11:45snap
11:45um i think there was like 35 or dac had 34 so um um no no i mean i mean
11:52um jackson 29 dropbacks
11:56no pressures none no pressures allowed um no sacks allowed obviously no quarterback hits allowed
12:03really solid in the run game i mean it's just a you know what it looked like what it was
12:08supposed
12:08to look like a veteran offensive line putting in a first round pick the 10th pick in the draft a
12:15rookie
12:15you're putting one guy in who's very talented into a group that's very solid around him and that's what
12:22it looked like right i mean jackson was was sacked twice and neither of them were really offensive
12:27line one um you know caleb downs blitzed and you know maybe jackson could have could have alerted a
12:33little better than that so it was not these were not breakdowns in any way so cc was tremendous and
12:38look caleb downs right he went 11 giants picked cc at 10 uh caleb downs played well you know he
12:45had
12:45that sack he had a forced fumble on jackson dart um and he had really good coverage on likely and
12:52likely was better he was just a little bit better you know a savvy veteran versus a rookie um a
12:57bigger
12:58player and that's one thing but i'd be interested to talk to the giants scouting department because
13:02you know caleb downs is not is barely six feet he's probably not six feet so when he's matched up
13:08with isaiah likely it's just bigger man wins sort of thing and that's what happened but um yes cc
13:13um really good arvel reese um oh by the way 58 defensive snaps right which is good that's a low
13:20number um edmonds and and arvel all 58 snaps you know you know this this now bobby okereke used to
13:26play every snap and sometimes mike mcfadden played most of the snaps but this is like there are guys
13:32they're playing every snap um you know and um you know what what did the cowboys average um 3.8
13:40yards
13:41per rushing attempt the giants will take that from week one to week 17 or 18 you know they'll take
13:46that every game denar wilson it was fun to watch the defensive line be able to one earn the right
13:57to rush that's i mean earn the right to to rush meaning like the pass rush defense to only give
14:03up with 80 something uh rush yards uh in that game to the cowboys 69 60 69 69 69 69

14:14so think about trading dexter lawrence who you had the 31st ranked and then you get bring in the cc
14:23maunoah who gives up no pressures in his debut against a good cowboys front
14:30you you're kind of looking at it i know it was just one game sample size but that that worked

14:36trading that pick worked out because you got someone that can help a guard is always going
14:42to help a team or a good guard is going to help the team more than a safety or but
14:47it all works
14:48together right i mean the cowboys had 18 rushing attempts attempts the giants had 37 18 rushing
14:55attempts you know if i would have told if you would have told me before the game i you know
14:58i just
14:58looked i got i got an advanced copy of the game book the cowboys have 18 rushing attempts i said
15:03that's fantastic for the giants you know that you know 18 rushing attempts because why the cowboys were
15:08were on the back foot they were trailing in the second half right you know the cowboys had two
15:14offensive possessions in the second half two that's it two often two two offensive possessions
15:23the best they could have done was scored two touchdowns right they had two offensive possessions
15:28how many offensive possessions did the giants have in the second half three eight minute scoring drive
15:35for a touchdown eight minute scoring drive for a touchdown 521 to end the game with kneel downs
15:42i mean this was like you know the old north carolina four four um you know four corners i mean
15:50we're
15:51gonna hold the ball we're gonna have a lead and you're never gonna get the ball back i mean that
15:55i mean
15:56look it's not gonna always be like this you know this was like the perfect the perfect recipe to win
16:03a game look they only won 28 20 but you know and and and you know jordan stout we talked
16:10about him
16:10might be the best player on the team right he punted once he had one punt you know i mean
16:17i mean this is
16:18not normal stuff in a game you know the giants were nine for ten on third down until the kneel
16:25down at
16:25the end nine for ten i mean that is unheard of if this would this was a this was a
16:32quite a incredible
16:33offensive bully ball dominating i mean you know we talked about pickens and lamb they're really good
16:42players really good they didn't have a chance you know i mean i mean i mean they had chances i
16:47mean
16:48lamb was targeted eight times picking was targeting six times you know their longest reception between
16:53them was 17 yards they didn't have opportunities because the giants had the ball too darn long i mean
16:59that that's a beautiful thing you know that's a beautiful and they racked up they racked up a lot
17:03of pass interference yardage yeah well yeah the pass interference it's just it's it's getting it's too
17:11easy to call nowadays paul like if you under throw a football all you have to do is receiver we're
17:17trained
17:18to try and act like we're at least trying to fight back uh fight for the football so we can
17:24draw
17:26that contact and you're automatically going to get that call nine times out of ten it doesn't even
17:31really have to be a catchable ball it's just if it's under thrown and you draw that contact
17:37you're you're you're going to get caught with it and that if you clean that's something that we were
17:42talking about well you know what could be a concern for the team going forward what could be a question
17:46that right there defensive pass interference is because now that you put it on tape now you're going to
17:52be one of those teams where we're like all right third and long we got some sort of deep shot

17:57it up throw it see if they get their head behind because if they don't get go uh initiating contact
18:02second part of it and drew phillips had a problem with that last year so you know that that's that's
18:09something he has to clean up now the first one i think was legitimate it was a long one there

18:14some ticky tacky ones after that but you know he's got a reputation a little grabby a little handsy a
18:19little too much so that's something drew phillips has to clean up because you know you may not like
18:25it but you know they're making those calls so you got to do something to adjust and you know you
18:29know
18:29and and look we've seen with john harbaugh he's not going to just go with it you know look tyrone
18:35tracy you know poor tyrone tracy right he had a a bad you know he had a missed blitz pickup
18:40in the
18:40preseason got jackson dart into the medical tent uh he had a bad fumble in the preseason you know
18:45that's not good uh he made the team um naji harris was inactive he's not going to be inactive much
18:52longer i don't think once as he continues to rehab and get stronger coming off that achilles
18:56um tracy had two rushing attempts and he fumbled on the second one and he was not seen again
19:01and all of a sudden devin singletary is out there as a workhorse with cam scatterbu so um you know
19:08who fumbled himself and we didn't see that much of him after that as well and that's my that's
19:15my other concern or question mark because if you got it's set up for you guys to do as many
19:23back
19:23flips and woos and content as possible because you have a head football coach who has said publicly
19:29our identity is going to be that we're running the football so if you're the guys that we're giving
19:36the football the most to and i have to hold my breath when you break so the longest run between
19:42the running backs was 13 13 yards so if i'm holding my breath to maybe get six to eight on
19:49a you know
19:49on a good run i don't you're not gonna this other guy is not gonna be inactive for long not
19:57gonna be
19:57inactive for long and i i i didn't even i'd like when we talk about always what's the thing we're
20:04overlooking when it comes to a football team when you're watching them in training camp and all
20:08running backs are putting the ball on the ground way too much and it's that sometimes you have to
20:15be lucky camp scatterboo fumbled you know recovered right um isaiah likely fumbled recovered um jackson
20:23dart fumbled right john runyon jr picks up the ball tyron tracy fumbled they did not get it back so
20:30yeah i mean these are bounces of the ball and um they could have had three or four fumbles they
20:35would
20:35not would they would not have won the game you know tyron tracy fumbles they're going in for a
20:40touchdown maybe a field goal but you know or a touchdown to near the end of the first half that
20:45was a huge sequence right huge sequence absolutely you know they know they you know they've got the
20:49ball tyron right he fumbles cowboys get the ball and what happens cave on divino makes a great
20:56pass rush pursues dak gets the right angle the fourth deck tank can't turn the corner tries to throw it
21:02out of bounds can't get his enough arm holland makes a great interception they come down and
21:07score that's a 14 that's a big turnaround that's a big big turnaround and you know what i attribute
21:12that to they call me crazy you know over people say oh you're a giant's glazer that's that's west
21:18virginia that's white sulfur springs west virginia that's 13 practices in 16 days that's that's being
21:24down there in the hot of you know the greenbriar resort and you know if that training camp was
21:31anything but a trip to a resort you know they grinded it out and you can tell the difference
21:36between a prepared football team on the first game of the season penalties weren't outside of the
21:43defensive pass interference but the other type of penalties i mean there was that delay a game when
21:49you're from like i didn't like that call i wanted to time out there i was thinking call the time
21:54out
21:55because you didn't want to give up that five yards but they hey you're over overcome it like so
22:00again there's there's times or there are going to be times where you don't get that break you lose that
22:05fumble or a ball bounces and they catch that on their side you saw you saw this team kind of
22:14gel
22:14together and play complimentary football the defense coming up with that interception at the end for the
22:21giants to then go down drive and score then and malik neighbors who everyone talked about i interviewed
22:28them after the game over the jumbotron and all that was pretty cool that was fun everybody all the text
22:34should i start leaking my fantasy is he gonna play uh the giants keeping it real coy being real coy
22:41on if
22:41he was going to play be ready to play or not he looked like himself now i want to see
22:47them take the
22:47step and now let's see let's take that shot down the football field with him to see where he's at
22:53but malik malik looked good and he didn't have to do too much which was a luxury for them well
22:59it was
23:00funny because malik said he told his family not to come to the game because he didn't want to
23:04disappoint them if he didn't play he wasn't sure i mean i thought he was going to play but i'm
23:10not
23:10malik neighbors he wasn't sure you know like he said he was looking for some spiritual guidance or
23:15you know what he got in the pregame walkthrough way before the game right and you know
23:22harbaugh didn't know jackson dart said he didn't know i don't know if malik knew i mean maybe in
23:27his heart and his head he said okay i'm going to play but he did not tell tell anyone okay
23:31i'm
23:32definitely going here you know can he take contact and he can he take a hit you know the mental
23:37barrier
23:37of that did you see john harbaugh tackled him in the walkthrough tackled him wrapped him up and
23:44tackled him and and looked at malik and said see you can handle it he tackled him in the walkthrough
23:49and said you can handle it you can do it and malik said yeah okay okay i'm ready to go
23:55so i mean you
23:56know harbaugh's greatest contribution in the opener might have been to wrap up malik in the walkthrough
24:03you know hours before the game and look did you see the one he kind of scared everybody malik had
24:08like a a crosser and he got the ball yeah and he went down and he slammed and i'm like
24:15oh shoot is
24:15he hurt you know he slammed the turf and it was he knew he was this far away he was
24:20this far away
24:21for taking it you know and that is i mean malik was not prime time he was not prime malik
24:28you know
24:28he was not what he had we saw him as a rookie preseason that's a preseason game for it was
24:35a
24:35really good joint practice for him just now you know what i mean he was you know what he had
24:40nine targets six catches 69 yard you know 69 yards but there was a couple of that one where it's
24:46like
24:46okay in a week or two from now he's breaking that thing and he knew it but um you know
24:52look i was not
24:54an athlete i did not have an acl i did not have a meniscus i understand i don't say just
24:59get out
25:00there you're paid to get out there the team says you're healthy it is a mental barrier and malik had
25:05he admits nobody knew what i was going through everyone was in the dark i had to go through this
25:10alone with help from trainers and and support staff but at the end you know at the end of the
25:15day you're
25:16alone with your own thoughts and your own fears right that's what an athlete is and um
25:22he weathered the mental storm and he played in the game and he was really good you know they got
25:28him involved early and did you see hob on the sideline they threw him that like pass for nine
25:32yards and hob was all jacked up it's like yeah yeah see you you can do this you're back so
25:38um
25:38they get an extra day rest now right for a monday night game so um you know they did this
25:44was a real
25:44success story to get malik neighbors back on the field for week one i think john harbaugh is really good
25:50with being like a mentalist type coach you know like being able to get in guys heads and motivate
25:55them from within like you as a player you see your head coach get hyped for you like that knowing
26:02that
26:02you know malik you could see that he felt it you know emotionally as well when he made that that
26:06first
26:07catching and got up the field um for that you could you could feel it you know you know your
26:12teammates
26:12you're gonna get it from your teammates but when you see your head coach so invested and you getting
26:17back to that guy where it's like you know out of our conversations that we've had about different
26:22receivers that i've ain't the inkwon boldens the you know the different receivers that i've been able
26:27to coach you remind me of this or this guy did this i want you to be great because i
26:32can show you
26:33or tell you what this guy's work ethic was like so head coach being invested into a player coming back
26:39you know on his track or his journey to get back to where he wanted was and or and beyond
26:44then you
26:45you always uh feel that final thoughts paul let's wrap this up i mean we could talk all day after
26:51a w
26:52but i know we got stuff to do you know final thoughts wrap up oh this week one well you
26:59know
26:59what have we been saying you know since john harbaugh was hired you know they need they need a real
27:03coach with i'm not a real coach i mean the other coaches were real coaches they need a star coach
27:08who knows what he's doing who hires really great coordinators and assistants and the plan in place
27:13works and is cohesive i thought matt nagy had a great game calling i mean three straight you know
27:19dump offs to the left to devon singletary i mean hello terry just take it hello dallas you're giving me
27:27yeah yeah hello cowboys look if you're a dallas fan right they had you know they get more they
27:33gave up more than 500 points last year their defense was horrendous their offense was great
27:38they finished under 500 and and they have a new defensive coordinator and eight new defensive
27:44starters and they weren't they weren't disgraceful but they looked a little more disorganized and like
27:51they had a lot of moving parts and you know having singletary you can't get beat on the same play
27:55three times in a row i mean he's not barry sanders out there right um but i thought it was
28:00very
28:00cohesive i think their rotations were really smart um the things they did you know we mentioned the the
28:06run defense right dj harris and shell dj reader and shelby harris both played less than 50 percent of
28:14the snaps on defense and you know you think okay they got to stop the run we got to keep
28:18those are the
28:19two main guys they they you know they let okoye and darius alexander get some snaps and things held
28:26up so smart coaching good coaching um you know maybe great coaching from john harbaugh great play calling
28:33from matt nagy um so you know giants fans have a right to think we're back we're back in business
28:40um you know doesn't mean they're gonna maybe have a great season but it was a great opener against a
28:45really good team prime time so um you know however you want to feel unless you go too crazy
28:52however you want to feel as giants and their fans then you know they deserve to after after a game
28:58where you know pretty much everything went well and they beat their hated rival you know so enjoy
29:04enjoy the week because you deserve it yeah depending on where you are now in terms of how invested you
29:10are on this football team now you want to see uh an adversity win come back come from behind type
29:17win have a bigger lead and then hope and then add on to that league like jump on a team
29:22early and then
29:23continue to add on having one of those type wins you get those those three you start to see them
29:29putting
29:30together those type of wins on top of what they just did it's like all right you there there there
29:36could
29:36be something here but again it's just the first game the great vibes great to start the uh the the
29:43season off with the w especially when we're talking about doing it within the division and to who that
29:48football team uh is and was what it means to to the giants uh we appreciate you guys watching
