00:02It's over two years since Tony Tyshurst's daughter Molly was killed by a man she came
00:08to fear. Today Daniel Billings was jailed for what Justice Natalie Adams described as
00:13a brutal murder.
00:15Daniel Billings, I sentence you to a term of imprisonment of 28 years.
00:20The Supreme Court in Orange heard the 31-year-old was driven by anger, revenge and extreme hatred
00:26after Molly reported him to police for domestic violence and sexual assault 16 days before
00:32she died. The court heard Billings told her he would break in her window in the middle
00:37of the night.
00:38It must have been absolutely terrifying for Miss Tyshurst to die knowing that her worst
00:44fears had been realised.
00:46Justice Adams told the court Molly's death was retribution.
00:50The murder of Molly Tyshurst is a serious murder involving the revenge killing of a woman who
00:55made a complaint of domestic violence against him.
00:58The court heard Billings abused Molly for months, including repeated threats and the killing
01:03of their puppy.
01:04He seemed oblivious prior to the murder as to how terrifying that conduct would have been.
01:09Justice Adams delivered a total sentence of 35 years in jail, reduced to 28 years after
01:16applying a discount for Billings' early guilty plea. He nodded once when the sentence was read
01:22out.
01:23Outside court, emotional reactions.
01:26I don't believe the Supreme Court judge should have given him the benefit of the extensive discount
01:31that she's given him in establishing and setting the non-parole period.
01:35We've lost Molly. Her son's lost Molly. Her parents have lost a daughter. We've lost a friend.
01:42There's nothing that will bring Molly back and no time was ever going to be enough.
01:46Her family and friends say the next step is learning to live without her.
01:51Here we go.
01:51See you, Dad.
01:52See you, bud.
01:54I'm currently feeling outside.
