A storm system that lashed much of the east coast in recent days is expected to continue moving north. There have been close to 400 calls for assistance in Victoria and over 250 in New South Wales, while two truck drivers had to be rescued from floodwaters in Queensland this morning. Jonathan How from the Bureau of Meteorology says more flood warnings in Queensland are possible throughout the day.

00:01For today, the focus will be across northeast New South Wales and then up into southeast
00:06and central Queensland.
00:07So really focusing across parts of the New South Wales coast, north about Coffs Harbour,
00:11up towards Grafton-Lismore, the Queensland border, and for Queensland itself, we could
00:15see some more heavy rainfall for the Darling Downs, up towards sort of the northern Darling
00:19Downs, Wide Bay Burnett, up towards inland parts, even as far west as places like Long
00:23Reach and Mount Isa.
00:24For Brisbane itself, because we did see the storms this morning, it could mean a bit of
00:28suppression in the actual thunderstorms, but couldn't rule out a storm across the metro
00:31area.
00:32But certainly for today, the risk will be with further heavy rainfall leading to flush flooding.
00:36And as you've seen, it really only takes about 20 to 50 millimetres to start to see these
00:40creeks and drains fill up quite quickly.
00:42So reminding residents across New South Wales and Queensland to stay away from those flooded
00:47drains and creeks and always follow advice from local emergency services and police.
