Former partner of Molly Ticehurst pleads guilty to her murder

Molly Ticehurst’s brutal killing sparked a national conversation on domestic violence. Today her ex-partner pleaded guilty to her murder as the people of Forbes vowed to keep her memory alive.

00:00It's the moment family and friends of Molly Ticehurst have been waiting more than a year for.

00:07A guilty plea from the man who murdered her.

00:10Today is a special day and I really appreciate the support from the people of Sorbs and surrounds.

00:18Molly's ex-partner Daniel Billings also made an admission of guilt to a number of other charges,

00:23including animal cruelty and breaching an apprehended violence order.

00:27It's a lost life, someone that had so much to give, someone who had a wonderfully close family

00:33and hundreds of friends has been robbed from our community by a shocking violent crime.

00:39The murder of the 28-year-old childcare worker helped spark a national conversation about domestic violence.

00:46In court documents, it was revealed Billings had previously threatened her, saying,

00:50I will come in the middle of the night. I will get to you if it's the last thing I do.

00:55They also showed that after killing Miss Ticehurst, Billings recorded a video of himself in which he said,

01:01I just murdered my ex-girlfriend. He was out on bail at the time.

01:06In many ways I apologise.

01:08Those accused of serious domestic violence offences must now show cause and court registrars are no longer allowed to make bail decisions.

01:16I wish that they were in place prior to it, but we now have the strongest laws in the country.

01:23Daniel Billings will remain at the Goulburn Maximum Security Jail before the matter goes to the Supreme Court in Sydney next month.

01:30It has been a big weight on everybody's shoulders to move forward with the loss of Molly for our wider community.
