00:30start here yeah and so i'm looking forward to you know seeing brian and the commanders there at
00:36lincoln financial field on sunday afternoon yeah that's gonna be a fun one man i uh i'm curious
00:42what you what you believe that you've seen so far week one can often be something you don't believe
00:48in as we get further into the season but that seahawks defense sure looks good that that niners
00:55physicality certainly looks good you know the rams did not look good drake may did not perform well at
01:02the end like what did you believe from these first couple games well it's good that you know either
01:08you know the eagles and the commanders don't have to fly to australia to go play because the rams look
01:12like they it was one big jet lag performance last night all the way around miles garrett matthew
01:17staff for the guys that they're counting on uh but honestly um there's just both these teams
01:22washington and philadelphia have you know two new two new coordinators in washington we got to see
01:29what derante does what david blau does we got to see what you know sean manion does in philadelphia
01:33i mean i don't know that nobody really plays in the preseason so you know you just hope that if
01:40you're down on the one yard line like the way the rams were last night you can score the touchdown
01:44and you know make it a game and they couldn't right and uh you know so like is that really
01:48the
01:49best option to have matt stafford at age 38 try to quarterback sneak the ball in like that's not a
01:54good decision uh by sean mcveigh so you know decisions um you know mistakes penalties we saw
02:00seattle overcome 10 penalties for 88 yards but uh you know and play with a backup quarterback who played
02:07really well so you don't really know what you're going to get you just hope that you can play a
02:11clean game
02:12and not hurt yourself where you're losing the game rather than trying to win the game
02:17but you've seen a lot of games where one team seems to be decidedly the best out there and then
02:23the
02:23other team's not supposed to get much hype but that team ends up winning the game what would have to
02:28happen with philadelphia's defense for washington's offense to have success well i think you know if
02:33washington can convert some big plays you know terry mclaren has always hurt the eagles um throughout his
02:39career he's hurt him getting deep and you know i i think that this the eagles have a good defense
02:45brian i i think they're a little thin and a little questionable at safety so i mean if the commanders
02:52are going to win can you hit your deep shots the way you know we saw last night the 49ers

02:57demarcus robinson uh you know the deep shot 40 yards right down the field in the go route
03:02perfectly placed ball um they took their shot without miles garrett on the field that might have
03:07had something to do with it but regardless can you hit your deep shots um and can you not turn
03:13the ball over the way basically if you if you can't score from the one is might as well be
03:17a turnover
03:18you know and they throw a bad interception can you take care of the football not beat yourself and can
03:23you hit some big shots down the field against this defense because they're very good up front brian
03:28you're you're gonna have a long hard day going up against jalen carter and jordan davis and some of
03:32these guys so you know you got to be able to take your shots and convert on some of them
03:36on the
03:37flip side baldy i'm curious you know there's going to be a new defense in washington like we're all
03:43focused and talk about david blau and jaden daniels but you know coming from minnesota i i think there's
03:49two things i think washington is really excited you talk to the defensive players they really seem
03:54excited about this new defense but it's also very complex what deronte jones is trying to install
04:01what are the chances not everybody's on the same page in this disguised complex look
04:10it's possible you know um you know i mean he's i'm sure he's taking a pretty big page from brian
04:15floors and what he's doing and brian really is the master of just you know putting seven or eight
04:20guys up in the line of scrimmage we saw seattle do it the other night get to drake may it
04:24was just a
04:25poor decision on his part but um you know how are they going to be able to what are the
04:30eagles going
04:31to do when they see those looks you're going to get them and not just on third down you're going
04:35to get those looks from time to time and you're going to get some players that are positionless
04:39players i mean frankie louvu you know is going to be a guy that could be a rusher he could
04:44be uh you
04:45know an inside linebacker he could be in the a gap like i think you're going to see frankie move
04:49around
04:49quite a bit you know and then if you're doing those things and you're disguising um is everybody
04:56getting the call you know because the eagles will have answers for some of it but maybe not all of
05:01it and you know are the are the commanders ready to give them that those looks and then you know
05:07dummy it up and back out and do the right things and get to the response to for good coverage
05:12so
05:13it's going to be a big storyline in this game and how they play with the eagles protections
05:19up at the line of scrimmage yeah i think that's the thing where uh one of the players well uh
05:23calevon chase on said they love playing offense on defense where i feel in that style of defense
05:30you kind of dictate what the offense has to do you put them in those situations where
05:33they have to throw those hots and then you can show that but you may back out and that ball
05:38may go
05:38right into the hands of a defensive player you you've seen brian flores defense how does it
05:45how much i mean what's the effectiveness of it well the effectiveness is it affects the quarterback
05:52brian i mean the idea is to get a free hitter coming right at your quarterback where you know
05:57jalen hurts has got to make a quick decision with the ball now he's he can avoid quick pressure he's
06:01a good scrambler uh he's strong all those kind of things but still i mean you want to affect the
06:06passing game and if you can get them to make a mistake i mean two years ago brian flores the
06:11minnesota vikings led to the league in takeaways there was a time when dan quinn was a defensive
06:16coordinator in dallas over a three-year span of time they had more takeaways than any other team in the
06:22league and so if you can create um you know if you can create some disguises where it forces
06:30quarterbacking to making bad decisions the way we saw seattle do the other night uh against new
06:36england and the way they did it in the super bowl i mean that's that's the benefit of this style

07:06a number of these guys are dealing with nagging stuff they're on the injury report i kind of expect
07:11them all to play deron pain was a late addition to the injury report something to monitor how like
07:18when i look at this matchup i think washington is going to really struggle to run the ball in
07:22philadelphia but i think philly's going to struggle to pass the ball how do you feel about sean manion
07:28and where jalen hurts is and not having aj brown just a lot of moving parts yeah i mean look
07:34uh
07:35i i think everybody's going to play uh i mean it's just it's what you do right everybody's got
07:40these nagging injuries and everybody's you know who's on the injury report i mean it's time to play
07:44you know you've had seven months off they just paid oh way a hundred million dollars what nagging
07:49injury is going to keep that player off the field you know i mean it's not some of these guys
07:54i think
07:54they overpaid honestly they're just watching you know adafe over the years in baltimore then for a
07:59little bit with the chargers but you know i mean caleb on had a good year last year with uh
08:03with the
08:04patriots no doubt it was his best year charles amanda who has been a good player went healthy
08:08but like those guys got to show up um you know you you invest in uh leo chanel's got to
08:13show up
08:14so all these guys but to your point about jaylen hurts and his offense i mean i feel like i
08:20know
08:20jaylen pretty good like he is a son of a coach he takes to good coaching he takes he takes
08:26a good
08:26coaching well he doesn't take to bad coaching very well and that's what happened last year like i think
08:32he's looking around the league and he's seen everybody all these quarterbacks are under center
08:36they're all going to work on their footwork on play action passes wide zone bootlegs everybody's
08:41got to work on their footwork one thing about jaylen he is diligent about doing the work necessary now
08:47there is no aj brown we got to see what you know we we saw nothing from makai lemon in
08:52the preseason
08:52outside of a drop um we really didn't see any of the receivers so we got to see what that
08:58timing
08:58looks like um we saquon has never been eight yards deep brian maybe you could speak to this
09:04what that difference is being in a shotgun running back versus eight yards deep and let plays develop
09:09a little bit more they returned the same five starters of the offensive line and you know got
09:15a new offensive line coach new way of doing things but they weren't very healthy last year they're
09:19healthy they should have a good day up front like they all know each other very well they're not
09:25breaking in a rookie they're all veteran players they they should play well up front for the eagles
09:30what do you think i think for washington you got to slow down saquon and saquon has done this to
09:36many teams around the nfl but he has torched the burgundy and gold yes um i i know i know
09:42you're up in
09:42that area i'm very familiar with the eagles how is saquon looking are your expectations sky high like
09:48they kind of always are with that kind of elite player well when saquon is spending his all season
09:54on a golf course that's a good sign that means he's not rehabbing any injuries he's healthy he's out
10:00there relaxing like his speed hasn't changed he's still got breakaway speed you got to get saquon
10:05before he gets you it really is that simple you got to get him to stop his feet at the
10:09line of
10:10scrimmage if you give him runways he can outrun a lot of defenses in his sleeve like he did two
10:15years ago
10:16on his way to 2 000 yards and so i'm sure that's what dorante is is preaching you you got
10:21to penetrate
10:22you got to get him tripped up um the the offensive line the offensive structure it's going to look a
10:29little bit different than it has in years past the way that they run the football there's not going to
10:33be a lot of power um you're not going to see a lot of pulling guards and you know counter
10:37trays that
10:38they ran in years past and so it's going to be a little bit different but you you can't let
10:43him get a
10:43runway going uh he's going to do what he has done in the past to the commanders yeah yeah it's
10:49been
10:49i mean he's averaging play out the big play dude even his years with the giants like he has he
10:55averages
10:56over 1200 yards a game i think there's over 100 yards a game i think in 12 career games against
11:01washington he has like 1600 total yards 13 touchdowns it's been just insane um yeah well how do you think
11:10it'll all shake out we've seen some kind of ugly football these first couple games do you think
11:14sunday for washington and philly could be the same kind of low scoring rock fight well i don't know i
11:21mean you know the 49ers played great on offense last night yeah and none of those guys played in
11:27preseason in fact i don't know how often mike evans or you know somebody or you know christian
11:32mccaffrey i don't know how often they even practiced now they're all veteran players so you know they
11:37they know when you know it's time to play like and they had a week to get ready down there
11:41in
11:41australia so they didn't have the jet lag that the rams had but regardless um you just hope that
11:46you play a clean game and you're not committing penalties the way seattle did like dumb penalties
11:51hitting a quarterback laid out of bounds those kind of things which are just dumb penalties
11:55you know in this business so you hope you can play a clean game you hope you get in and
11:59out of the
11:59huddle uh you hope jay daniels who you know his rookie year with cliff he was masterful
12:04calling everything at the line of scrimmage um and you didn't see a lot of those mistakes made
12:09now we're going to see he's going to be under center some there's going to be play action passes
12:14there's going to be some of that stuff on offense i think with them and we'll let's just see how
12:18he
12:18handles it but i i feel like both offenses are going to struggle you know to start this game and
12:24maybe the big plays sort of break the game open at some point but i feel like both teams are
12:30learning
12:30new offenses new systems um i i don't expect this thing to for these offenses to go up and down
12:37the
12:37field against each other body i see you as a very good offensive mind and uh like under the center
12:43in the shotgun what problems does under the center when you run in play action pass you have to turn
12:49you back to the defense what does that cost for them more than just putting the ball out in front
12:53like
12:54they do in the what they call the pistol stuff these days yeah yeah you know honestly it's just the
12:59indecision that it causes the defense that's why the ball handling the footwork is so important
13:03where you're really you know creating a mesh point uh you know on a play action pass where he is
13:08turning
13:09his back to the defense or a bootleg fake where he's you know jay you know jaylen is putting the
13:15ball
13:16in the belly of saquon and so a guy like sonny styles who hadn't seen that at ohio state nobody
13:22that
13:22he played against was running that style of offense uh you know is is is it going to make him
13:27freeze
13:27for a little second because you know linebackers it's a pretty good uh mantra to just be a little
13:33slow till you know you know then you know once you know that you know you get to your drop
13:38or you
13:38you come downhill and you know you take on the guard or whatever it is like i just want to
13:43see
13:43what those guys look like um when there is good play action fakes and the hesitancy that it has and
13:49it slows the rush down a little bit just because you have to be able to you know be able
13:55to stack and
13:55shed you know man if it is a run so i i think it slows the defense down and there's
13:59a little bit

14:18zooming out from uh commander's eagles are there any games out there this weekend that you think
14:24are you're really keeping an eye on like i know for me it's not till monday night but broncos chiefs
14:29and seeing what mahomes has seeing what andy reed cooks up seeing what kelsey still has like that
14:35that's a really interesting game and so is sunday night's game in new york yeah i mean obviously
14:41you got a division game you know with the eagles and the commanders but you know right after that
14:45you know right after that game you're going to have the cowboys taking on the giants and i i've been
14:51around the giants quite a bit this preseason they they're just a bigger tougher stronger team than
14:56they've been and a better coach and we'll see the cowboys are kind of under the radar a little bit
15:01but everybody expects them to be good and to compete um they're going to get to a very tough giants
15:07team a bigger team um all the way around with some real talent arvel reese is going to be a
15:12star in
15:13his business i'm convinced of that and they've got the pass rushers the cowboys all banged up on the
15:17offense line but yeah i mean i saw patch mahomes out in training camp this year you can't tell that
15:23he had major knee construction like he's tired of answering the questions about it he's he's a full
15:28go like he spent seven hours a day rehabbing uh from the time of that injury and he looks great
15:34um i think they have some questions about offense left tackle is a big deal um we'll see what kenneth
15:40walker looks like in this offense how if any reach truly is committed to the run as you know mahomes
15:46gets healthy but and they get they rebuilt their defense and i think denver is a really solid team
15:51just to got a new play caller davis webb there's storylines everywhere but those two particular
15:56games like uh you'll be tuned in at night to watch them yeah i can't wait man uh baldy i
