00:00We are fired up to jump on the Rude Guest Hotline.
00:02Welcome in the governor of the great state of Maryland, Mr. Westmore.
00:06Gov, what's up, man?
00:08What's going on, guys?
00:09How you doing?
00:10We're good, man.
00:10How have you been?
00:12Man, I've been good.
00:13I've been good.
00:14Those games last week were, it's good the football season's back,
00:19but Lord have mercy, those were some ugly games.
00:21Oh, yeah.
00:23Dude, you started four and one, though.
00:25I know.
00:26You remain hot.
00:27Yeah, let's keep the party going, man.
00:30Let's keep the party going.
00:32Absolutely.
00:32But I'll tell you that, that Niners game, that was, you know,
00:36it's funny because, I mean, we talked about it last week where, you know,
00:39it was, you know, we all questioned the judgment of having them go so late
00:43and then Darwin wasn't going to travel and all that kind of stuff.
00:47But, I mean, it was just a horrifically bad decision
00:52because the whole team just looked horrible.
00:54I mean, Puka looked horrible.
00:56I mean, you know, it just wasn't – Stafford looked terrible.
01:00I mean, so it was just a really bad decision.
01:03And, honestly, the fact that you had the Niners, the fact that they showed up,
01:08they took it seriously.
01:09I mean, Purdy was looking like mid-season form already.
01:12So, it was something.
01:15It really was, Dom.
01:17Let me ask you, Dom.
01:18You fly around a lot, okay?
01:21And I understand the East Coast, the West Coast.
01:23You know, you may be able to get through that.
01:26You ever been to Australia?
01:28I've never been to Australia.
01:29And what's the longest you've been?
01:31And when you get off that plane, you're tired, aren't you?
01:34You're exhausted.
01:35And the problem is, is that your body still hasn't acclimated.
01:41So, your body still doesn't know what time it is.
01:43Generally, that first night's sleep or that first couple nights' sleep are horrible
01:46because you're going to wake up in the middle of the night
01:48or you'll be exhausted during the day.
01:51And they try to – and it takes you a couple days to get used to it.
01:54And, again, we're not talking like, oh, it's a two-hour time difference
01:57or a three-hour time difference.
01:58We're talking a different day.
01:59Yeah.
02:00Yes.
02:01We're really talking a different day.
02:03I don't know if you heard Kyle Shanahan talking about trying to figure out
02:07what day it was when he called home to talk to his wife.
02:09And he was like, I think I'm somehow in the future.
02:12I don't understand it.
02:15It's – I don't know, man.
02:17Are you – you know, the Ravens play down in Brazil.
02:20Will you make that trip?
02:22I don't think so, man.
02:24Listen, I would love to.
02:26I've been practicing my Portuguese, but I don't think I'll make it down there.
02:30We're going to London, but London feels a lot –
02:34what the NFL has done, though, is they have normalized all of this.
02:38London is normalized, for sure.
02:39London doesn't even seem like a big deal anymore.
02:41No.
02:41Yet you are flying across the country – across an ocean to play a football game.
02:46And listen, and why wouldn't they?
02:48Because the appetite for NFL football is so global and it's so strong.
02:54I mean, when they go out there and you go out there and you're playing in,
02:57you know, in Tottenham Stadium and they're packing it out.
03:01It's like, why wouldn't you put as many games in Brazil, in London, in Paris,
03:06in Australia as you can?
03:08Because the appetite – I mean, people love American football.
03:12So I think the NFL is giving people what they want.
03:14Yeah, I mean, there were over 100,000 people in Melbourne last night watching that game.
03:20Not sitting 700,000 feet away from the field.
03:24Gov, you want to get to this week's action?
03:26You ready?
03:27Let's get at it.
03:28All right.
03:28Why don't we start with your Ravens?
03:30That's a tricky little spot going on the road to face the Colts in week one.
03:35Yeah, no, it is tricky.
03:38And actually, I think the Colts are a sneaky – can be a sneaky good team.
03:43Yeah.
03:44But y'all know where I'm going on this one.
03:47I mean, you know, and honestly, and I really do think it's justified.
03:50And I know everybody's like, I know, I know, I know.
03:52But, like, but hear me out on this.
03:54Because, you know, not only are we basically returning every single offensive weapon we have,
04:00with the exception of Isaiah Likely, and I'll get to him in a second.
04:03You know, so you still have an offense that's led by Lamar Jackson
04:06and an offense that's led by Derrick Henry and an offense that's led by Isaiah Flashley.
04:10So, like, where do you put your focus with the Ravens is a really complicated question
04:14when you have all those guys who are up and healthy.
04:17But the sleeper of the Ravens this year, I'm telling y'all, is going to be this defense.
04:22I think Jesse Minster just got this defense locked in in a way that we have not been locked in
04:28on defense before.
04:29We have a head coach who is a defensive mastermind.
04:31And that's what was missing from the Ravens.
04:33And then you throw on Adney Hendrickson coming off in the pass rush.
04:37I just think we're a different type of – I think we're a different type of team.
04:40So, I think the Colts can be sneaky good.
04:42But I do think that the Ravens could take this win on week one.
04:45All right.
04:46Well, we're going to talk about Isaiah Likely.
04:47He's up there with the Giants now, and they're playing against the Cowboys.
04:50What do you think happened?
04:52So, I mean, I actually – I think that the Giants are a better team this year than they were
04:58last year.
04:58You know, shout-out to Likely, who I think is going to – who I think was a good addition.
05:02And shout-out to Harbaugh for bringing Likely up there to New York with them.
05:08I also, though, just think that the Cowboys – you know, they're going to do what the Cowboys always do.
05:12They're going to start off pretty good.
05:14They won't do anything in the playoffs, but they'll start off pretty good.
05:18And I think that you – you know, if you look at Dak, Dak has a thing with the Giants.
05:25I mean, you know, I was looking at some stats.
05:27You know, he's 14-3 as a starter against the Giants.
05:31So, I mean, like – so, he likes playing the New York Giants.
05:35And so, I think that, you know, again, the Giants are better.
05:38They'll be better this year than they were last year.
05:42But I just think that when you have – you know, when you have Dak,
05:45who actually has something – really, it's on the plate for me.
05:47Like, Dak is playing – this year is a make-or-break year for Dak.
05:50And then you still have CeeDee Lamb.
05:52You still have Pickens.
05:53You still have a lot of tools and a lot of weapons.
05:55So, you know, I go with the Cowboys on this one.
05:59It's hard not to, but I am excited about that game.
06:03What I don't want to see, because we've seen so many of them,
06:06is just a dog of a game where Dallas just kicks the Giants' ass.
06:11Because I feel like we've seen that so many times.
06:13Yeah, I mean, I'm with you.
06:15And also, I hate seeing the Cowboys win no matter whether it's close or big margins.
06:19I just can't stand them.
06:20But it's like – but I don't think – I don't think they can do that to the Giants this
06:25year.
06:25I really do think the Giants have gotten better.
06:27And I think Harbaugh – you know, Harbaugh at this point was not the right coach
06:32for what the Ravens needed right now.
06:34But I do think he is – I do think he adds value to the Giants.
06:38There was a period of time where I watched Sean McVay coaching the Rams
06:41and was just thinking, like, what might have been in Washington.
06:44Did you ever have that with McDonald in Seattle?
06:48Oh, my gosh, man.
06:49I still do.
06:50Yeah.
06:50Like, I remember when we made – when they fired Harbaugh.
06:54And, again, you know, Harbaugh's my dude.
06:55Every NFL coach dreams of having a career, like, a half a career that John Harbaugh had.
07:01For sure.
07:01But I was happy because I was like, you know, we couldn't win in the Lamar window
07:05with Harbaugh as a coach.
07:06And the very first thing named across my mind is, damn, I wish we could get McDonald
07:12back because he would have – he's the guy, man.
07:16I mean, he would have been – he would have been extraordinary.
07:19And not to mention the fact that he was one of us.
07:22And now I knew that wasn't going to be a shot.
07:24I mean, he just finished winning a ring.
07:25With another team.
07:26But that is one of the reasons I do like Jesse Minter is I do see Minter as almost like
07:32a –
07:33even though they're both young – kind of a younger version of McDonald.
07:38Yep, for sure.
07:39Let's keep it going.
07:40I think Bucs-Bengals could be a sneaky, excellent game.
07:43I think you might see some real scoring there.
07:45Who do you like, Bucs-Bengals?
07:47So, they'll definitely be scoring because they'll be scoring on the Bengals.
07:52I mean, the Bengals are just the weirdest team to me in the NFL because it's like their offense is
08:00so good.
08:01I mean, they have – I genuinely believe they might have one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.
08:08So, they still have people like Jamar Chase and T. Higgins.
08:14So, it's like this offense – this offense is ridiculously good.
08:18This defense is ridiculously bad.
08:21And they have done nothing to get better.
08:24Dex and Lawrence might impact that, man.
08:26If Dex is healthy and can go, he can go.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Yeah.
08:32If.
08:32That's right.
08:33I know I'm not going to get you to say much nice about the Bengals, though, Gov.
08:36I get it.
08:38No.
08:39And honestly, it's not even just that they're a division rival.
08:41It's just – I've not seen a team that knows your weakness and then for now going on years does
08:49nothing about it except get it worse.
08:51And I just don't understand what the issue with the Bengals is.
08:55And so, you know, so listen, I think the – you know, the Bucs are good.
09:00You know, Baker got his paper.
09:03So, you know, he's happy.
09:05But I just – I don't see how the Bengals are going to do a good job of stopping many
09:10teams with a better than average offensive game.
09:14And I think the Bucs have a better than average offensive game.
09:18So, I think the Bucs take this one.
09:20All right.
09:20So, we got the Broncos are going to be playing against the –
09:23Patrick Mahomes.
09:24But the Chiefs and Pat is back now.
09:26Where are you going with that?
09:28Yeah.
09:28So, I think this is one of the best games of the week.
09:31Yeah.
09:32And this one's hard.
09:35I think for a lot of people who are thinking Chiefs, I think they're still thinking about the Chiefs of
09:42the past.
09:42I think that the Chiefs – you know, we have not seen, you know, a world-class Chiefs team in
09:48like 15 months if we're just being honest.
09:51You make it sound like that's so long.
09:53I know.
09:54But actually, for the Chiefs it is.
09:55Because remember, I mean, they were just – they were running through teams, you know, for years.
09:59But I just don't think this is the same Chiefs team.
10:02And the big question that the Chiefs have got to figure out is, you know, Patrick Mahomes is coming off
10:07of knee surgery.
10:09And he's not coming off of knee surgery at 25 years old or 26 years old.
10:13And so, I just don't – I'm not – until I see something different, I'm just not a believer that
10:20we're going to see the same Patrick Mahomes ever again,
10:23which was just like, you know, first ballot Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes.
10:26I just don't know if we're going to see that, if we're going to see that ever again.
10:30And so – and I do think the Broncos have a really good young core.
10:34I – you know, I've got to tell you, like, I really think Bo Nix – I mean, he's a
10:40baller.
10:40And especially when it comes to primetime games, I saw, you know, he's 6-1 in primetime games.
10:46And so, I do think that Bo Nix is going to perform well.
10:50By the way, just for full disclosure, I might also be saying that because I had Drake May on my
10:55fantasy who killed me last week.
10:57And so – and I was thinking the whole time, I was like, I should start Bo Nix.
11:00I should start Bo Nix.
11:01But I started Drake May.
11:02That was my fault.
11:03So, now I'm going to see how Bo Nix does this week.
11:05So, but I think the Broncos win.
11:07Have you heard Drake May's new nickname, Gov?
11:09No.
11:10What?
11:10Drake Maybe.
11:15I love that.
11:16Actually, that's how I feel about him being my starting fantasy quarterback in that one.
11:20Maybe not.
11:22All right.
11:22Maybe not.
11:23Gov, last one.
11:25We're driving up 95.
11:26Don't you worry.
11:27I will stop.
11:28Maybe I'll stop at the Maryland house and the Chesapeake house just to show the love.
11:33But Commanders going to Philadelphia, the Fox game of the week Sunday afternoon.
11:37What do you think?
11:40This is a tough one.
11:42But I think the Eagles end up taking this one.
11:46And I think it's for a few reasons.
11:48One is I think the game starts and ends with Saquon.
11:52And I think that Saquon, Saquon's just a really tough matchup for the Commanders right now.
11:57I mean, he is, you know, if you look at, and also he just really, he's been a tough matchup
12:02for the Commanders for a long period of time.
12:03I mean, he circles the Commanders every year on the calendar because he always does well against the Commanders.
12:11So he's a tough matchup.
12:13And the other thing that I really have, and I'm just real concerned about, and we've talked about it, is,
12:18listen, you've got Scary Terry.
12:20You've got Stephon Diggs.
12:21You have really good receivers.
12:23And I think you have a quarterback who's world-class in Jaden Daniels.
12:27And you have to keep him up.
12:29You've got to keep him healthy.
12:30And I still think that there is an issue with the offensive line.
12:35And particularly now with Tunsil missing.
12:38I think there's going to be a real challenge of being able to, you know, give Jaden Daniels the time
12:44to be Jaden Daniels, particularly with these new offensive weapons.
12:47And so I think Washington's going to make some plays.
12:51I think that, you know, I think the preseason, and again, y'all know, I don't put too much weight
12:56on the preseason.
12:58But the preseason was rough.
13:00And it wasn't just the records.
13:02And it wasn't just – but it was what it exposed about some of the schemes.
13:06And so I think the Eagles, you know, they have their challenges.
13:10But I think the Eagles end up winning week one.
13:12Yeah, I mean, they're loaded.
13:14Governor, I know your time is always valuable.
13:16Thank you, sir.
13:17Appreciate you, man.
13:174-1 start to the season.
13:18We'll check with you next week, see how you did.
13:21Yes, sir.
13:22Good to talk to y'all.
13:23All right.
13:23You too, sir.
13:24That is the governor of the state of Maryland, Mr. Wes Moore.
13:29Give him a follow at IamWesMoore if you're interested.
13:32Pretty crazy, B.
13:33Who knows what's going to happen in this world.
13:35But, like, we're friends with the governor.
13:37And if that dude ever ended up living on Pennsylvania Avenue, it would not surprise me, man.
13:41You're right.
13:42You think he'll still call and make picks?
13:44Knowing him, he probably will.
13:46Nobody go anywhere.
13:47It's B. Mitchell Finley.
