00:00A ton of injuries last night and 13-10 victory for Seattle last night.
00:04It really was.
00:05It was an ugly football game.
00:07And this is a prime example of what we always tell people
00:10when you don't play exhibition football.
00:13How do you know what your football team is going to look like
00:16in the month of September?
00:18This is why I call it Liars Month.
00:20This is why I call it you never really know what you're going to get
00:24at the beginning of the season when you get a team like this
00:26or both teams, both teams coming off the Super Bowl.
00:30There's no question that both teams did not really have a great preseason
00:35when it came to getting their guys ready.
00:37Injuries were all over the place.
00:39And, in fact, no question about it, you end up losing your quarterback
00:43and Sam Darnold to a hip injury, and then the Patriots end up losing,
00:48of course, A.J. Brown to a high ankle sprain.
00:51Sam Darnold received positive news, though, following a CT scan,
00:55which Mike McDonald, the head coach, said doctors ruled out a fracture,
00:58which is great.
01:00He'll have an MRI again in the next couple days to get more information
01:04and determine whether or not he can play this coming weekend.
01:08Again, no question.
01:09I think the issues are definitely in the preseason.
01:12Patriots also, you end up going out, and you get your premium wide receiver
01:17for, again, Drake May.
01:20And A.J. Brown left the game last night because of an injury,
01:24high ankle sprain.
01:25Thank God there was no fracture.
01:27X-rays were negative.
01:29It's still to be determined how much time that he will miss.
01:32There's no doubt that this was a sloppy ball game.
01:35But, once again, you got to really give it to John Schneider,
01:39the general manager of the Seahawks.
01:41He built that team in two ways, and this is the reasoning that that team
01:45will always be a contender no matter who's playing the quarterback position.
01:49They're built to run the ball, and they're built with that great defense.
01:53That defense in the second half just absolutely made life miserable for Drake May.
01:58Once A.J. Brown, a primary target, was not there, there's no doubt Drake May
02:03had all types of issues in this game, and an absolute disastrous play
02:09at the end of the fourth quarter here.
02:11Drake May talked about that play.
02:13He absolutely threw a quail, and that was the game decider.
02:18How would you describe what happened in the second half?
02:22Yeah, I think we had the game under control.
02:24You know, I thought we had a good plan to try to just start chipping away
02:27and be patient, and, yeah, lost patience and costed us.
02:32I think it just, you know, decisions that cost us the game, you know, on my part
02:37and on my end.
02:38And, you know, I vowed to myself to be better and realize it's, you know,
02:42it's a long season, but at the same time, you can't have those.
02:44You can't have those, and it's unacceptable, and I know that you're going to get back
02:48to work because, you know, that wasn't, you know, how I play football
02:51and how I want to represent, you know, my game and, you know, playing quarterback
02:55for the Patriots.
02:56Man, if you're the New England Patriots, you come out of Seattle with that game in hand
03:01and you end up losing it like that, that is not a good sign for the rest of the season.
03:07You can't lose patience when a backup quarterback comes into a ball game
03:12and you've got that game in control.
03:15This comes down to decision-making that May just said there, bro, you can't lose
03:19a game like that, especially when you've got a much tougher schedule than you did
03:24a year ago.
03:25You're in a division that you can take control of with you and the Bills there.
03:29Really, the Dolphins and the Jets are going to give you four victories.
03:32You can't lose games like that.
03:34Now, thank God for the Patriots that that's not an AFC team, but, dude, when you have
03:40a game like that in hand and the opposing team has their backup quarterback in the game,
03:46you've got to win.
03:48You've got to hand it to Drew Locke.
03:49Drew Locke comes in.
03:51That football team was just flopping all over the place, Seattle, and then in the fourth
03:57quarter, they ended up getting control.
03:59Just shows you, again, great coaching, great stability, understanding, game situation.
04:05There's still Mike McDonald's, one of the best coaches in pro football.
04:09And Drew Locke, backup comes in, wins the ball game.
04:13Kudos to him.
04:15No, it was great to get in here at half, put the plays up on the board, talk about our
04:20openers coming out of the half, really get those dialed in.
04:23And I think it's also a little bit of the, just feeling the flow of the game, getting
04:30back into this, finding ways to, in the future, be able to snap into it quicker.
04:35That's just the life of a backup.
04:37And no question about it.
04:40The life of a backup.
04:41You want to hear something?
04:4350 players that were backup quarterbacks last year saw action in last year's NFL.
04:49So the importance of having a backup quarterback, not that you're going to go out and win a
04:54Superbowl with a backup quarterback, but you have to have a competent guy that can go out
04:59and win a game for you when you need it.
05:01And that's exactly what Seattle did.
05:03They were patient and they ended up getting it done with a competent backup quarterback.
05:09Look, we know the physicality of the National Football League.
05:12You're going to lose players.
05:14You're going to have your quarterback have to take a couple nights off or maybe even a couple
05:18of weeks off.
05:19You got to have a competent player there.
05:21And the Seattle Seahawks have one in Drew Locke.
