00:00Okay. I had the choice yesterday and I received Gator. It's your choice today.
00:06I will receive our Gator ready. Question number one,
00:10which team needs to make a statement immediately in week one?
00:15There are, when you look at the schedule,
00:17you can make a case for a lot of teams, right?
00:20And I mean, every year everybody wants to get off to the, to the right start.
00:22But I think one team in particular has got to get off to the right start
00:26because the last thing that their fan base saw was despicable.
00:29And that is the Houston Texans.
00:31They have got to spit that bad taste right out of their mouths.
00:35Last time they played, they lost in the playoffs to the Patriots by double digits.
00:39And CJ Stroud through four interceptions.
00:41The team commits five turnovers.
00:43This is a team that's expected to be contending for the Superbowl
00:46and has been like a hot choice for the last few years
00:49because they had the talented quarterback.
00:51They hit the ground running in his, in his rookie season.
00:53They've added to that offense by giving him more weapons.
00:57They've got Dave Montgomery's over there now too, as well,
01:00to help out the running game.
01:01You've got the dynamic duo on the, on the rush ends.
01:04They've added the defense.
01:06This team's ready to go and it ain't going to be easy.
01:08They got a home game tonight against the Buffalo Bills
01:10and Buffalo can be saying the same thing.
01:12Hey, this is a big game for us.
01:14So I do think it's Houston though.
01:15They got to get off to the right foot.
01:17Not tonight.
01:18No, not tonight.
01:19This weekend.
01:20I'm going to go with a team that everybody thinks everybody's going to,
01:23everything's going to be just fine because they got their hero back.
01:26I think it's the Kansas city chiefs.
01:29They play at Denver on Monday night or is Denver there?
01:33Denver.
01:33I think Denver's at Kansas city.
01:35My bad.
01:36And they think the return of my homes will just make everything.
01:39All right.
01:41I'm not as convinced.
01:42I think it's the chiefs that need to send the message that they are back.
01:47So week one in the NFL is always the biggest lie.
01:51I think people,
01:52way too many people overreact to it.
01:54Your team's not defined by what happens week one.
01:57It's more like week five,
01:58week six,
01:59kind of know where your team's headed.
02:00And that's when you can kind of change your,
02:01maybe the trajectory of your team.
02:03So I don't really think any team needs a statement.
02:06When I think a team that just needs a win is the New York jets.
02:10And it's because did you guys know they haven't won a season opener in 11
02:13years.
02:14Now don't get it twisted.
02:15I don't think the jets could,
02:16the jets are going to suck this year,
02:17no matter what,
02:18but I think they just need a win to end the streak.
02:20So they need the statement when more than anybody just break that streak.
02:26All right.
02:26It happened again.
02:27The Patriots and the bears last year went from last to first place in their
02:31division.
02:31So who's going to go from last to first in their division this year,
02:34guys?
02:35Okay.
02:37I feel guilty doing this,
02:39but isn't the easy button,
02:41the lions with their schedule,
02:42their talent back health up a little bit.
02:45I'm going to take the Detroit lions and I feel guilty,
02:50but there's the deep analysis.
02:52They were technically the last place.
02:54That's why I get paid.
02:55Fair enough.
02:56Um,
02:56I mean,
02:57I,
02:57here's exactly what I wrote when I first saw the question.
03:00I think the easy button to press is the lions.
03:03So I won't,
03:04even though I do think that will happen.
03:07That's out of the way.
03:08I'll give you another team that I think has a chance to do it.
03:10And I'm going to go with the giants.
03:11I think they've got a really good roster.
03:13Yes.
03:14It's a tough division,
03:14but I could see Philly falling.
03:16I feel like Dallas is always overrated and Washington.
03:20You don't really know what you have.
03:21I like Jackson dart and I like them a lot.
03:24They got OBJ back there.
03:25I think with some more weapons there,
03:26it could be really interesting to see what they do.
03:29Uh,
03:29the cam Scadabo show is always interesting.
03:31Uh,
03:31hopefully he can keep it in check and,
03:33and stop hurting himself or his teammates.
03:36Uh,
03:37but I do think that the giants have a really good roster.
03:40I think they have the best chance outside of the lines to go from last to
03:43first.
03:43So lions fans might not want to hear this because it's their week one
03:46opponent.
03:47I'm going to go with the saints.
03:48I think the saints defensively have Kool-Aid McKinstry had a breakout season
03:52last year.
03:52Chase young career year with 10 sacks veteran.
03:55Cam George is as real.
03:56Cam Jordan is as reliable as they come offensively.
04:00Chris Olave.
04:00When he's healthy,
04:01he's an absolute stud.
04:02They brought in Travis ETN,
04:04very versatile running back backed up by Kamara.
04:06Juwan Johnson is a very good pass catching tight end.
04:09Obviously this all relies on really the quarterback play though.
04:12Tyler Shuck.
04:13He's the key.
04:13If he takes a leap,
04:14which he played pretty well the last eight,
04:16nine weeks of the year with Kellen Moore as his coach,
04:18a quarterback guy,
04:19the saints could win this week division.
04:22I like the saints going from last to first.
04:25All right.
04:25Give me your coach of the year.
04:26Offensive player of the year,
04:27defensive player of the year and NFL MVP.
04:30Okay.
04:31So my coach of the year,
04:32I'm going to go with Dan Campbell.
04:33I think this year he finally gets it.
04:34I think the lions win the division again and finally get recognized for winning division
04:39a third time and whatever it is,
04:41four years.
04:41And that's going to be enough for the voters to finally say,
04:44DC,
04:45you are the best HC.
04:47So here we go.
04:47As far as the offensive player of the year goes,
04:50I think that's going to go with a Lamar Jackson,
04:53the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens.
04:55I think he's going to be up for a monster season and probably do for a monster contract,
04:59uh,
04:59as well.
05:01Um,
05:01the defensive player of the year.
05:04Well,
05:04you got to help out your coach and that's what Aiden Hutchinson is going to do.
05:07I think Hutch is going to have a crazy good year.
05:10I'm buying into all the hype.
05:12I'd like what I saw from him last year.
05:14He's a pressure machine.
05:16Yes.
05:16I think I agree with their philosophy.
05:17If you take them off the field a little bit more,
05:19you're going to get a higher energy in Hutchinson,
05:22which is going to provide higher volume sack totals.
05:25I think Hutchinson will be the player of the year on the defensive side.
05:28As far as the MVP is concerned,
05:31I'm going to stick with the offensive side of it and go with Lamar Jackson,
05:34the quarterback.
05:34Again,
05:35I think he's poised to have this amazing year setting up a record breaking
05:40contract.
05:41My coach of the year is going to be a coach who I think is going to take a team
05:44that's finished a pick to finish in last place to a division title.
05:48I'll take Kevin Stefanski,
05:50the head coach in Atlanta,
05:51my offensive player of the year,
05:53Jameer Gibbs elite talent,
05:54getting more opportunity seems to match up.
05:57I'll go miles Garrett,
05:58defensive player of the year chalk and NFL MVP.
06:01I'll take Josh Allen quarterback award.
06:04So for my coach of the year,
06:05I'm using the same theory.
06:06You are Doug from last to first,
06:08you get coach of the year,
06:09but mine's a saint.
06:10So I'm going with Kellen Moore is the coach of the year.
06:12If he takes the saints,
06:12the first place in that division,
06:14offensive player of the year.
06:15I know everyone here is focused on Jameer Gibbs and rightfully so,
06:19because that dude's a stud,
06:20but I'm going to go with B.
06:21John Robinson.
06:21B.
06:21John Robinson is just as good,
06:23good as Gibbs.
06:24And he's got less teammates to share the ball with.
06:26So he might actually put up better offensive numbers and Gibbs and wins the
06:29offensive player of the year.
06:30Defensive player of the year.
06:31I got defensive black Christian Gonzalez just signed a huge deal setting,
06:35you know,
06:35a new record for defensive backs with new England.
06:38And there's a reason for that.
06:39In my opinion,
06:40he is the best defensive back in the league and he'll get the hardware this
06:42year to back it up.
06:44MVP Gator.
06:45I agree.
06:45Lamar Jackson.
06:46I think people forget how good he was before the injury in week four,
06:49before that injury,
06:5010 touchdowns,
06:51one interception,
06:53130.5 passer rating.
06:55When he's healthy,
06:56he's going to always be in the conversation.
06:58He just was never fully healthy when he returned.
07:03All right.
07:04JJ McCarthy is officially the third string quarterback in Minnesota.
07:07Is McCarthy's career essentially over career over?
07:11No.
07:12Look,
07:13the lions brought back Teddy Bridgewater.
07:15Do I think he's going to start again?
07:17That's debatable.
07:19I bet he gets a start again at some point,
07:21but he's going to hang around.
07:23JJ McCarthy will still be on an NFL roster in 2030.
07:27I think the quick answer is no quarterbacks get opportunities all the time,
07:31but it doesn't mean he's not going to have to work at it.
07:33He's absolutely going to have to work at it.
07:35But because he was a first round pick,
07:37there's always that kind of glow that sticks with guys who are first round
07:40picks.
07:41And there's always going to be teams that are curious about unlocking the
07:44potential.
07:45And I think there's some talent there.
07:46I'm not big on JJ McCarthy,
07:48but I think somebody will be,
07:50he's going to end up being either a total bust or he's going to have a chance
07:54to resurrect his career.
07:55He'll get the chance to resurrect his career.
07:57Like guys like Darnold and Baker Mayfield.
07:59I'm not confident that he's going to get it done,
08:02but he will absolutely get the opportunity to do so.
08:05So he's going to stick around the league for a number of years.
08:08So I don't want to say his career is essentially over,
08:10but he couldn't beat out two other guys this year.
08:13And he's the third string quarterback.
08:14And one of those guys is Carson Wentz,
08:17but we've seen other people do it before.
08:18You mentioned the names of Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold.
08:20But if you force me outbent against JJ McCarthy making,
08:24I feel like this is more of a Josh Rosen thing.
08:26I don't think he's going to be like floating around being a backup.
08:28I think it just,
08:29I mean,
08:29he'll get another shot somewhere else,
08:31but,
08:31but he won't make the team.
08:32He'll be the third string or something like that.
08:34And eventually it's,
08:34it's nothing for JJ.
08:40All right.
08:41The Steelers defensive back,
08:42Joey Porter Jr.
08:42His status is up in the air this week because he and the team have yet to agree
08:46on a new contract.
08:47He does say he has a little back issue,
08:48but we all know what that means.
08:50The Steelers have a longstanding policy though.
08:52They do not negotiate during the season.
08:54Should the Steelers finally abandon that policy and negotiate with Porter during,
08:57during the season to get them on the game or get them on the field.
09:00So he doesn't miss any games.
09:01They absolutely should negotiate.
09:03He's a really nice player.
09:05He's in the last year of his deal.
09:07So this isn't like he's trying to jump the gun and get something done ahead of time.
09:10So I think they have to get this done.
09:13It doesn't have to break the bank,
09:15the deal for him.
09:16I think that with the Christian Gonzalez deal is out there.
09:19I don't think you have to look at numbers like that,
09:20but get something done.
09:22It makes all the sense as a team and a franchise used to have Mike Tomlin forever.
09:25And they finally made the decision to cut bait with Mike Tomlin.
09:28The time is now to cut bait with the stupid policy that they have.
09:32It's old and dumb.
09:35Yeah.
09:35The Steelers aren't the Steelers of old.
09:39I just don't think they're going to sign him.
09:40I think they're going to be a stubborn about it.
09:43Try and reestablish maybe some of that old school mentality.
09:46And quite frankly,
09:47I think he's going to get traded during the season.
09:49It's an outdated policy for an outdated team.
09:51I mean,
09:51McCarthy and Rogers is their coach and quarterback right now.
09:55The Steelers are obviously one of the greatest organizations in NFL history,
09:57but if they aren't careful,
09:58they will be ancient history.
10:00Negotiate in good faith.
10:01Otherwise,
10:01just trade them if you don't want them.
10:05All right,
10:05last one,
10:06guys,
10:06the New York Jets,
10:07they went the entire 2025 NFL season without an interception.
10:11That's right.
10:11They did it.
10:12Predict the week they get one this year.
10:14If they do guys,
10:15I'm so glad you asked this question because it's going to be week one.
10:19The Jets open with Tennessee and Cam Ward will throw a pick.
10:22And I was so excited to look at the Jets defensive roster and see a former,
10:27I believe Detroit lion camp invitee,
10:31the Toronto Argonaut,
10:33Quan Tez Stiggers is going to pick off Cam Ward in week one.
10:39I love that you're calling your shot on this too.
10:41That's great.
10:43Doug,
10:43I echo what you say.
10:45I think it's week one against the Titans.
10:47It seems like these types of streaks that go into the next season,
10:49they often get a lot of press and fall with a whimper because right away it's done.
10:55I think the unwitting victim is Cam Ward,
10:57who by the way,
10:58didn't throw interceptions last year.
10:59He started,
11:00he played in all 17 games and only threw seven picks the entire season.
11:05But this is year two for the young quarterback.
11:08The kid gloves are off and they're going to ask him to go ahead and be a little more aggressive,
11:11which means he's going to be a little bit more reckless with the pigskin this season.
11:14And it starts in week one.
11:16I've got week four against his old coworker,
11:18Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams and the bears.
11:21I mean,
11:21it's going to be a little,
11:22there's going to be a little joking about it.
11:23Cause finally he gets one and against his old buddy,
11:25Ben Johnson.
11:26But if it doesn't happen against the bears,
11:28they're going to all for it again,
11:29guys.
11:30Two years in a row.
11:31No interceptions.
11:33There it is.
11:33That concludes why not Omaha four down around the league blitz thingy.
11:37Carson Anderson,
11:3897.
11:39One.
