00:00I'm Jo and this is Meg and I'm a fifth generation farmer from Cowra in Central West New South Wales
00:07and I've been nominated in the Next Gen category of the Australian Agriculture Awards which we're
00:13both very chuffed about. So my dad and I run a mixed farming enterprise here in Cowra. I've been
00:22on the farm for about 10 years. I decided not to go to uni when I finished my HSC and
00:29so it's always
00:30been really important to me to contribute to my community and my industry beyond the farm gate
00:36while I'm here at work. So a couple of years ago I donated some of our lambs to my former
00:44high school
00:44in Cowra and the kids studied those lambs for the trial aspect of their curriculum. A couple of years
00:52later we developed the Connect to Agriculture Award which is a scholarship that's connected to the
00:57lamb trial. The focus of the trial is essentially to give kids a realistic insight into what we do
01:04and create a connection between the farmers on the ground and the food that we see in the supermarket
01:10for these kids. Last year I also received an Agri-Empower scholarship through the NFF and Woolies
01:18which I've used to strategically invest in expanding the program to four other schools in the region.
