00:00Today, the Dolphins, I don't know if you guys heard us because we were on on Labor Day,
00:04but I know a lot of you were off enjoying the holiday weekend.
00:07The Dolphins announced their captains yesterday, Malik Willis, Zach Seeler, Aaron Brewer, Patrick Ball, Jordan Brooks, and Devon Achan.
00:14Here was Jeff Halfley, who says he likes the group they picked.
00:21I'm excited. I mean, the players voted for those guys, and I think they deserved it.
00:27And in each of their own way, they've showed the ability to lead in all different ways.
00:34And I think it says a lot about those six guys, that they received the votes from their peers.
00:40And I'm excited for those guys.
00:43I think those guys kind of set the standard of what we want and what we're looking for, but it
00:48doesn't end there.
00:49I think developing leaders is very important, and it doesn't have to just come from the captains.
00:54And I talked to the team about that today.
00:58But I'm excited for those six guys.
00:59I think they've earned it, and I think some of them a year or two ago or three years ago
01:05might not have been in that position.
01:07But, you know, I think it's misconception when you say, oh, you don't have any leaders here or there.
01:12I think you can develop leaders, and there are certain ways to do that, and it comes in many different
01:16ways.
01:16So I'm excited about all six of them.
01:18All right. There you go.
01:19425 is their Week 1 game.
01:22We'll have Game Day Uncensored come your way at 12.
01:27Get you ready for all the action.
01:29Dolphins.
01:30Why are you laughing?
01:32Put on your microphone.
01:33Laugh at me like a man.
01:35I think one of the craziest things is 425 is normally primetime.
01:43And for primetime this week, you have the Dolphins and the Raiders.
01:49There's like not a 4 o'clock slate this week either.
01:52All the games because they have...
01:53West Coast games?
01:55Not really.
01:56There's like two...
01:57There's three, I think, three 4 o'clock games.
01:59Right.
01:59It's a packed 1 o'clock slate.
02:01Yep.
02:02A jam-packed 1 o'clock slate.
02:04And then...
02:05Who's Monday night?
02:08Getting it for you.
02:09Hold on.
02:11Denver and Kansas City.
02:13Ooh.
02:14You got Green Bay and Minnesota 425, Washington, Philadelphia, and then Arizona, L.A.
02:20You want to hear the headline on Tuesday?
02:22Soft opening for...
02:23You want to hear the headline on Tuesday?
02:25Patchman Holmes is back!
02:28That's what you know.
02:29It's coming.
02:30Maybe.
02:31I want to see him back.
02:32I want to see him back, back.
02:33I like it when Patrick Mahomes is cooking.
02:35I...
02:38Denver plays a very boring style of...
02:43They got Waddle now, though.
02:45Yeah.
02:47Yeah.
02:48But is their quarterback...
02:50You know what I mean?
02:51He ran around and made plays, but do we consider him like that dude?
02:57Bo Nix?
02:58Yeah.
02:58Do I think consider him that...
03:00No, I don't think he's...
03:00You know what I mean?
03:01He almost seems like he's a bearer of the torch kind of guy.
03:08Like, if you're relying on Bo...
03:10Now, the crazy thing about it is we could all say that they lost the game because they
03:15didn't have Bo Nix.
03:16Yeah.
03:18But...
03:19Would you ever say they won or they made it this far because of Bo Nix?
03:25It just seemed like he was an important piece, but not the piece, right?
03:30I mean, he was good enough.
03:32Like, he's definitely better than I thought he was going to be.
03:34But that's my point.
03:37So now that he's healthy, what are you really expecting from him, even if you put more weapons
03:44around him?
03:47I mean, I think if he's healthy, I think they're going to be a pretty damn good team, dude.
03:52Okay.
03:53I think they are.
03:54Okay.
03:54Because here's the thing.
03:55Like, that dude, is Sam Donald that dude?
03:58Is Jared Goff that dude?
03:59Like, that dude is kind of...
04:01Right.
04:02It's not really in style right now.
04:04Like, the guys who are like the bonafide...
04:06This goes to like the Cam Newton thing of like, you know, game managers, playmakers, or
04:11difference makers.
04:12And like, teams are being successful with just having the prototypical game manager.
04:18And he does have good weapons.
04:19I mean, Sutton and Waddle, like, that's a pretty good duo that he's got.
04:22I remember making this argument before, and everybody laughed at me.
04:26You don't need an elite quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
04:31There's more proof that...
04:34Of just guys winning a Super Bowl because of what you have and the type of team you have
04:39than elite quarterbacks.
04:41I believe there's more proof because Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes were hogging up a lot of
04:44Super Bowls.
04:44No, but I'm saying, okay, those are two elite guys.
04:47Yeah.
04:47I'm not saying...
04:48But how many of those are available?
04:51How many...
04:51Not many.
04:52Okay.
04:53Through the history of football.
04:54So if you get one, yeah, great.
04:56But what I'm saying is, I can go through the list of Super Bowls and have guys who, oh,
05:03he won a Super Bowl?
05:04Oh my goodness, he won a Super Bowl?
05:06It has more to do with the team, but we put it on the quarterback.
05:10Yeah, but it's...
05:11You probably ought to stop doing that.
05:12Well, it's definitely gone further away from that because teams are more scared to take
05:16big shots.
05:16Like, they like to just kind of malaise around.
05:19There's a lot of serviceable quarterbacks, a lot of talented quarterbacks that aren't
05:24Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen and Tom Brady that can still win football games for you.
05:30But we've gotten so caught up in, oh, we need the stud at quarterback.
05:35And I'm like, no, you need an NFL quarterback, a competent NFL quarterback you can win.
05:42Like, does having an elite win help?
05:45Sure.
05:45Well, does that change your feelings of Denver because you've been kind of poo-pooing on them?
05:49No, it's always been a team thing with me, with him.
05:52But I always tend to steer away from teams that you've benefited in a lot of certain circumstances.
06:12Like, last year, Denver won a ton of work.
06:14Yeah, they got lucky.
06:15KC kind of did the year before and then it all fell off.
06:18Right.
06:18But again, if it can happen to KC and then, like, yeah, like, they can patch it up with
06:28Band-Aids.
06:29I don't know if it goes sideways for Denver.
06:33But I don't think they looked at it because they're at that spot right now where they haven't
06:37paid Bo Nix.
06:38Like, that's why you're going at a Jalen Waddle, even though you're probably going to pay him
06:42next year if he has a big year.
06:43But we'll see, too.
06:44I mean, like, you know, if Waddle, you know, gets away from the dysfunction of here and
06:49having injured quarterbacks, if he's any better, because he gets banged up a ton, too.
06:52You know, he plays through games, but he usually, like, he plays games.
06:55He's a tough guy, but he's banged up.
06:57Right.
06:58So.
06:58Because he's a little.
07:00He's a wee lad.
07:01He's a wee lad.
07:01He's a wee lad.
07:03How's he doing?
07:04Yeah.
07:04I don't know.
07:05Like, it's hard for me when I look at the circumstances behind your victories last year, right?
07:14And then I look at it and say, can these things be repeated?
07:19And it's hard to have that success in one score games year after year after year.
07:23However, to be on the other side of it, they were, like, almost last in league in turnovers
07:32as far as getting turnovers.
07:34They're not going to stay there either.
07:37So.
07:37You know the Jets get an interception this year?
07:41Where's Vlad?
07:43Vlad got a better chance.
07:45Crazy.
07:46What a year.
07:46No interceptions.
07:47No interceptions.
07:49It's been a while since that happened, right?
07:54Robbie's taking shots.
07:55At who?
07:56You.
07:56Why?
07:57He says, I heard at 2 p.m. when the show is over, they're going to add time at the
08:00end
08:00of the show since Leroy's a Michigan alum.
08:02Hey, like, I don't, here's what I don't understand.
08:07I don't understand why everybody's coming at me.
08:10There's been no person that's been harder on Michigan football than me.
08:13Answer for their crimes.
08:15I don't have to answer for their crimes.
08:17Answer for them.
08:17Wait.
08:19Listen.
08:20You got the benefit of a call this week.
08:24But that football right there ain't beating nobody.
08:28That's a fact.
08:30Yeah.
08:32I mean, what's the chances of a Hail Mary working?
08:38Right?
08:39Throw a second on.
08:40They ain't going to be able to do this.
08:42I felt the opposite.
08:43Because I was like, well, when they had shenanigans, I was like, oh, well, this one's going to work.
08:46Because Western Michigan is going to be so, like, defeated of, like, what the hell just happened.
08:51Right.
08:51Had it taken away from us.
08:52And they were.
08:53Holy smokes.
08:54Oh, man.
08:56It was something, man.
08:57What a weekend of college football.
08:59Right.
09:00So, in this division, you think the Bills win the division, right?
09:11See, I have too many, like, arguments with myself about different things.
09:18One, I do believe that just because you get a new coach doesn't mean you're going to be better.
09:23It's happened.
09:25But there's a lot of teams that switch coaches and it's not better.
09:29So, where does that leave Buffalo who was on the verge of winning a championship and you think you can
09:34just switch one position or one position in your organization and that gets you over the hump?
09:40That doesn't always work out.
09:43That being said, they're still the best team in the division even if they didn't win the division last year.
09:50I think they're the best.
09:51I mean, they have the best quarterback, you know.
09:53But, like, I would say probably all around, the Patriots still probably have the better team.
09:59Really?
09:59Yeah.
10:00You believe that?
10:00I think so.
10:01All right.
10:02I think so.
10:03Questionable on the offensive line.
10:04We've got to see if that's all put together.
10:05Then they don't.
10:06Okay.
10:07If you can't protect your prize.
10:10Buffalo's defense is garbage, dude.
10:12They've got nobody.
10:12Yeah, I know.
10:13I know.
10:14And they, like, I'm just curious to see because the great thing about coaches is this.
10:23They're not going to coach outside, coach you outside of your comfort zone.
10:29They're going to put you in a situation where you can be the best version of yourself.
10:33And sometimes that looks a certain way on offense and defense.
10:37And everybody says, well, why didn't he do this?
10:39Why didn't he just do that?
10:40Why isn't he doing this?
10:41And I always know right away why.
10:43Because the players can't do it.
10:46And so what part of what they're going to do in Buffalo and how the last coach ran defense
10:56was that based on the talent or based on that's just the style of defense he ran?
11:03Yeah, but I think the thing is right now is you're looking at these.
11:05It's a two-horse race because nobody really thinks the Jets are going to win the division.
11:09No, absolutely.
11:09Nobody thinks the Dolphins are going to win the division.
11:10Nope, correct.
11:11Two-horse race.
11:12And most likely they'll probably win enough games to make it into the wild card on one
11:17of those spots.
11:18Yeah?
11:19Yeah, the fall is not going to be that great.
11:21Do you think – like you would need the Patriots.
11:23Do you think the Patriots are going to go from 14 wins to what, 10?
11:26Nine?
11:27Nine, 10.
11:27Do you think it's going to be nine to have that big of a fall off?
11:29That's not really that big of a fall off.
11:31It's a pretty big fall off.
11:32I mean, keep in mind, if you get half the breaks that you did or you play more difficult teams
11:42that you're more competitive with, right?
11:45Like, that changes the season.
11:47I used to always have the argument, like, 10 and 6 and 7 and 9 aren't that far off.
11:54There's a couple of breaks during the season, but it looks like three wins.
11:59And I'm saying, like, things could go a different way during the course of a game,
12:04and all of a sudden you're 10 and 7 and everybody's excited about you.
12:08You don't take advantage of those moments or you don't get those moments during the course of the year.
12:13And now you're 7 and 10 and everybody thinks you're terrible.
12:18So when you watch these games and you add up at the end of the year,
12:22we don't look back at those moments.
12:24But some teams every year take advantage of those moments all year
12:30and they end up with 11, 12 wins.
12:33But what do you think is not that good?
12:34Like, a five-game drop-off is not a two-game drop-off.
12:40I would say they won 14 games last year.
12:46I think they'll be somewhere around 10, between 11 and 9 wins.
12:52I do.
12:53So you think they'll be anywhere from 9 to 11?
12:56Yeah.
12:57Okay.
12:57Still a pretty big drop-off.
12:58Not really.
12:59You don't go 14 and 3 every year.
13:0214 wins is a lot.
13:03I don't know if they're going to win 14, but I'm saying, like,
13:04if you told me they were going to win 11 and 12 as opposed to drop-off to 9.
13:09Like, 9's a huge drop-off, dude.
13:11Yeah.
13:11It's barely a winning record.
13:12It's a 500 team.
13:13But here's the deal.
13:14And I don't really understand.
13:15Does it mean that?
13:15I don't really understand whether you think they got worse.
13:17Like, I understand you think the schedule is tougher, but I don't know.
13:21They still – so here's what happened.
13:26What was their major issue last year?
13:33By the end of it, blocking people.
13:35Right.
13:36But they also were hurt.
13:38They were banged up.
13:38Their left tackle was banged up.
13:40Protecting a quarterback.
13:42Yeah.
13:42Who was also hurt.
13:43Right.
13:44So, like, until I see them protect a quarterback –
13:46But I guess the thing that I'm having trouble with is you're kind of giving me,
13:49like, every – like, who do you think is going to be good, I guess, is my question.
13:52Because you've –
13:52I would say –
13:53You've basically got this entire show telling us all the elite teams in the AFC last year
13:56are not going to be that great this year.
13:57I would say the Bills.
14:00Okay.
14:01So you think the Bills are going to win the AFC East?
14:03Yes.
14:03Okay.
14:04So you do believe in their new head coach?
14:07I just think they're too talented for it to be that –
14:10It's like – remember back in the day, whoever took over the Dallas Cowboys –
14:13I just want to wrangle your takes because your takes have been all over the place
14:16in the AFC.
14:17It's Barry Switzer taking over the Cowboys.
14:22I'm just saying.
14:24They were so talented.
14:24I think the last guy was Barry Switzer.
14:25He kind of felt more Switzer-y.
14:27No, but he – then he went to the Super Bowl with –
14:30Dude, he used Osama bin Laden as a role model.
14:33All right.
14:35All right.
14:36What?
14:36That's – what he did?
14:38Why are you looking at me like that, Jennifer?
14:42Source subject.
14:44It's not a source subject.
14:45It's what he did.
14:46He's like, guys, hear out this teamwork.
14:50Like, all right, McDermott, hit the bricks.
14:53Anyway.
14:55So I think the Chargers will win that division.
15:01You do?
15:02Why?
15:04Why?
15:05Yeah, why?
15:08Because of everybody in that division, they probably are on the same –
15:16I'd say they were on the same, like, kind of level with the Bills.
15:20Like, most consistent, most – you know, you pretty much have an idea of what you're going to get.
15:27But everything else – everybody else in that division is – hope.
15:32Hope this works out.
15:33Hope this works out.
15:34Right?
15:35You say Kansas City, and you say, oh, they got Patrick Mahomes.
15:39Just –
15:40I mean, he's got a pretty good track record.
15:42No, he does.
15:43But, again, everybody on that team is getting older.
15:46The defense is getting older.
15:49Like, Patrick Mahomes is going to come back and say, if they do have a good year offensively,
15:54then the defense falls off.
15:56It's like, once you lose it, trying to get it back is not as easy as –
16:00I just think it's – like, I think it's a strange thing to think.
16:03Like, all these teams that have been perennial contenders, you think are going to fall off.
16:06They've been.
16:07And now – but you think that this is the year the Chargers put it together?
16:10They've been.
16:11There's a difference in being on the way up and on the way down.
16:15Right?
16:15Would you say in the last three years there's been a steady decline with the Chiefs?
16:25They haven't been the same team, but the real decline happened last year because his knee blew out.
16:29Right.
16:29You know, they were losing anyway.
16:31Right.
16:31But I'm just saying.
16:32Like, it's not – go back two years or – it hasn't been that I can just depend on, you
16:43know,
16:43Kansas City like you could five years ago or four years ago.
16:46And it happens that way.
16:48You have a slight decline.
16:50Everybody around you is now chasing you.
16:52And then when they catch you, now you're playing – you know, you're chasing.
17:01I'm going to go with Baltimore.
17:04Okay.
17:05Right?
17:05I just think defensively and offensively, they're that talent.
17:11Agreed.
17:11I have, like – I don't know what – you got Joe Burrow and you got that offense in Cincinnati,
17:20but all right, they're Cincinnati.
17:24You can't just – your explanation just can't be their –
17:26If I had to choose –
17:28I don't understand what's going on with Leroy today.
17:30I don't know.
17:31I'm so sorry.
17:31What do you mean?
17:32Your reasons have just been like –
17:34Me saying it's Cincinnati?
17:35You're doing too much today.
17:36Me saying it's Cincinnati is a problem?
17:38Okay.
17:39They're the Raiders.
17:40They're the Dolphins.
17:42They're the Browns.
17:43They're lashing out.
17:43Why not?
17:45What has Cincinnati done to prove to you that, oh, they're going to get –
17:48You got to pick four good teams.
17:50You've blown up like half the good teams everybody thinks are good.
17:52I picked a division winner in all the divisions.
17:55You've picked the Chargers and you've picked the Bills and you've picked the Ravens.
17:58And then when you go to a wild card team, you're like, yeah.
18:00No, I'm getting there.
18:03South?
18:03If I had to pick –
18:05Oh, the South.
18:06Good luck with that.
18:07Jacksonville won 13 games last year.
18:09I know.
18:09Do you want to do that with them too?
18:14Duvall?
18:16Duvall.
18:16Duvall might be a good coach.
18:18Yeah.
18:22Here's the problem.
18:23Do you go offense or do you go great defense with no offense?
18:27I have no faith in Houston's offense.
18:31Is Daniel Jones coming back?
18:32Is that going to get – because they were really good with Daniel Jones.
18:36They were.
18:38So those three teams, right, who do you have the most faith in?
18:43If I had to pick – if I had to pick a team that, like, I know is going to
18:49be in
18:49every game, I would go Houston.
18:51But I have no faith in their offense.
18:53I agree with you.
18:54Because defensively, they're the best.
18:57I've seen teams win with the best defense and a terrible offense.
19:02I haven't seen it the other way.
19:04How many games do you think they win, though?
19:0711 wins wins that division.
19:09Interesting.
19:09Interesting.
19:09How many wins do you think wins the North?
19:1712?
19:1810.
19:18Really?
19:19That much of a rock fight, huh?
19:20Yeah.
