00:07Tell those musicians to start playing some action music because it is on.
00:11Okay, here we go. Here we go.
00:14Come on, you guys. Yeah!
00:15Greetings, panda.
00:17We meet at last.
00:19Yeah!
00:22Take that!
00:25Ooh, inner pink.
00:29Yeah!
00:30Mwah! Mwah!
00:34Okay.
00:38Come on, guys. Let's go!
00:40Yeah!
00:41When you start at any of these projects, you have a picture in your head of how you want people
00:45to feel watching the movie.
00:47And I think what we were most proud of was that people really connected to Poe.
00:50They found a little bit of themselves in him, and that allowed them, I think, to really enjoy the ride
00:55that he goes on.
00:56You guys see that? It's called being awesome.
00:58From the very beginning, Jack Black has really created the character of Poe.
01:03My fist hungers for justice!
01:06That was my fist.
01:08Part of it is humor and irreverence and enthusiasm, and part of it is a kind of vulnerability that Jack
01:14has.
01:14There's a real sweetness in Jack's character that he brings to Poe, and I think that's one of the reasons
01:19people really connect to him.
01:20We're coming for you, Shad!
01:22Woo-hoo!
01:23Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
01:26And then his sense of humor, his comic timing, his ability to kind of come up with crazy pretend words
01:31in the middle of a sentence.
01:32Hi-yah!
01:34Sparrow kick!
01:35Woo-ah-yah!
01:36That makes no sense.
01:38When we get there in the studio, he often ad-libs a lot of stuff.
01:41That is severely cool.
01:43But he will add stuff on his own that gives a lot of that Poe-ism to it.
01:48Woo-hoo-hoo!
01:49You guys see that?
01:50It's called being...
01:53I don't know, I feel pretty good.
01:54It's great, let's go.
01:55I feel like we've captured a lot of magic.
01:57It's all acting to me, whether it's just voice or, you know, full-body acting, I guess you'd say.
02:03The job is still the same, to pretend that these scenarios are real and have real emotions.
02:08I'm better when my hair is tussled a little bit.
02:11At the end of these sessions, these recording sessions that may last several hours, at the end of it, he
02:17looks like he's run a marathon,
02:19because he acts out a lot of this stuff.
02:21It just helps, it helps me act better when I really get into the body position that Poe would be
02:26in.
02:26So serious.
02:30Ha-ha-ha-ha-ow!
02:32This is, in many ways, the same crew from the first film.
02:36We've been through a long, long span of panda years together.
02:39It's really a treat to work with so many people who personally take it upon themselves to make a great
02:47product.
02:47I mean, you're working with some of the best actors in the industry.
02:50I mean, how can Kung Fu stop something that stops Kung Fu?
02:54Remember, Dragon Warrior, anything is possible when you have inner peace.
02:59We need to get to that tower without being spotted by the wolves.
03:02Poe! Incoming!
03:04Sorry, Poe. It's just me.
03:06I'll give you a signal.
03:08Ga-ga! Gigi!
03:10Gotcha!
03:14The thing about Poe with the Furious Five is they love him,
03:19but he's also kind of like their little brother.
03:21He's brand new to this whole Kung Fu master thing,
03:24so he'll embarrass them sometimes.
03:27That creates a lot of the comedy in the movie.
03:30Where's Poe?
03:30How can we lose a guy that big?
03:32Is that while they love him and are aware of his power,
03:35they're also kind of embarrassed by his silliness.
03:39Poe, the day you were chosen as Dragon Warrior
03:42was the worst day of my life.
03:44Nothing else came close.
03:46People like them together because I think they're like every family.
03:49They're kind of that weird, dysfunctional family
03:51where they all love each other,
03:52but they get on each other's nerves all the time,
03:54and they've got a lot to work out.
03:56Tigress, no!
03:58The hardcore do understand,
04:00but I can't watch my friend be killed.
04:02I think the relationship between Poe and Tigress
04:05has a lot more going on in Kung Fu Panda 2
04:07than in the first movie.
04:08I am ready.
04:09And Angelina's really taken that character
04:11and the development of that character very seriously.
04:14She understands where she's coming from emotionally.
04:16I just found out that my dad isn't really my dad.
04:20Your dad, the goose.
04:22That must have been quite a shock.
04:25So there's this level that Angelina has brought as an actress
04:27that's really made the character deeper
04:29and more interesting to watch.
04:30I hope this turns out better than your plan
04:33to cook rice in your stomach by eating it raw
04:35and then drinking boiled water.
04:36This plan's nothing like that plan.
04:38She's a fighter, and she's out to go get the bad guy.
04:40She's also in this one for her,
04:42which is very nice for me.
04:43She has a bit of an emotional breakthrough
04:44and learns to be a little nicer.
04:46That was pretty hardcore.
04:48It's an amazing honor when an actor does these movies
04:51and is so excited to do it, and James Hong is really an example of that.
04:54Thank you for coming to Dragon Warrior's Noodles and Tofu.
04:59He has just so taken this role of Mr. Ping to heart
05:02and really become him.
05:04He'll send us notes, thoughts that he's had about the character
05:06in the middle of the night, or even when he's not working.
05:09I feel like he's still really thinking about the character
05:11and what it means and what it means to have that son.
05:13So good to see you, Po.
05:16Have you lost weight?
05:18I can almost put my wings around you.
05:20Mr. Ping is really a character of depth.
05:24He has many facets.
05:25He's a single parent, sort of like a Jewish mother
05:29and a Chinese father combined, if you can imagine that.
05:34That's me giving you a piggyback ride.
05:37On second thought, I'll hang on to this one.
05:39I think it's just like one of these perfect marriages
05:40between actor and role, he's just incredibly passionate about it.
05:43In honor of my son, free tofu desserts for everyone.
05:49With purchases.
05:50In some kind of two, we had a lot of new characters
05:52and we were really lucky to find so many great actors
05:54that wanted to come and work with us.
05:56The year of the peacock begins now.
06:00We wanted to do a villain that was a little different
06:02than the first movie.
06:03We thought, well, what if this time Po is challenged
06:04by somebody who's going to be a real mental opponent for him?
06:07So we came up with this idea of a peacock
06:09who isn't obviously physically strong,
06:11but one who'd be very cunning, very smart.
06:14With the weapon by my side,
06:16all China bowed before.
06:19I think we all felt like Gary Oldman
06:21would be the perfect casting for the peacock.
06:22He's so intelligent,
06:24and he has so many layers and levels in his acting.
06:27Everything must be exactly as I envisioned it.
06:30He understands.
06:31It's a very kind of twisted,
06:33demented guy that the peacock is.
06:36Calling the wolves!
06:38All of them!
06:39And Gary really gravitated towards that.
06:40He's done some amazing villains,
06:42and I think the peacock is a really fun one.
06:45Whoa!
06:46The only reason you're still alive
06:49is that I find your stupidity mildly amusing.
06:54Well, thank you.
06:55You know that sort of proud, entitled thing
06:57that peacocks have?
06:59Well, he has that in space.
07:01Will the subjugation of the whole world
07:03finally make you feel better?
07:06Hmm, it's a start.
07:07He's very witty,
07:08and he's quite a mean tongue on him.
07:10Happiness must be taken.
07:13I mean, he fits very nicely in the gallery
07:15of sort of old men villains.
07:18Find this panda,
07:20and bring him to me.
07:22Yes, sir!
07:24Guess nobody told you.
07:26If you mess with a wolf,
07:27you get the fangs.
07:29The first time I saw the drawings of my character,
07:32I was like,
07:34this is how I picture myself,
07:36of an angry, furry, vicious wolf,
07:39and so it seemed like it was going to be a natural fit.
07:41Ha-ha!
07:42Losing steam, tubby!
07:44Ha-ha!
07:45For one, he has one eye.
07:47Get him!
07:47He has big fangs.
07:49He is just a big, bad wolf.
07:50You know, who doesn't want to play the big, bad wolf?
07:52I do not like that guy.
07:53Ha-ha-ha!
07:56The ferocious Master Croc!
07:59And Master is storming!
08:01Ox!
08:02We had all these great kung fu masters in this film
08:04to flesh out the world
08:06and make things feel even bigger,
08:07and we were very fortunate to have these amazing actors,
08:11and they're all super cool.
08:12Master Ox,
08:13I'm not letting you stay in this cell.
08:15I'd like to see you get me out!
08:17Master Ox is being played by Dennis Haysbert,
08:19and he's got that wonderful,
08:21deep-booming voice that seems very masterly.
08:23You insolent fool!
08:24And he never approached it like he was a cartoon ox.
08:28He always approached it like he was a kung fu master
08:30that was suffering from the loss of his mentor.
08:33I mean, he really took the part seriously
08:35and brought this intensity to it
08:36that really gave that character,
08:37even in the few scenes that he's in, great depth.
08:40Gongmen is under the stewardship of the Master's Council,
08:43and we will protect it even from you.
08:46Master Reiner is played by Victor Garber.
08:48He doesn't last very long in the movie,
08:50and we really needed to make an impression.
08:53We needed somebody who Poe would respect and look up to,
08:56and so that's why I think we went to Victor Garber,
08:58because he does have this kind of rich, buttery voice,
09:01and he's able to give you sort of a sense of command,
09:04but you know that he's kind.
09:07That is a warning.
09:08I mean, you are no match for our kung fu.
09:11I agree, but this is.
09:15Shannon's weapon are in control, though.
09:18Soon, all of China will be begging for mercy.
09:20I always figured that if you're doing a kung fu movie,
09:22you've got to have Jean-Claude Van Damme,
09:24and he was willing to do it.
09:26Like, oh my gosh, what a treat.
09:27So I got him a cameo in the movie,
09:29and he's just an amazing, amazing person.
09:32He's just such an exciting person to be around.
09:36It was great, because the first time I talked to the people from DreamWorks,
09:41and they said, you're going to play a crocodile.
09:43And I go, a crocodile, but my legs are so short, you know,
09:47the front, back, oh, I'm going to be able to kick and everything,
09:50and they told me, you're going to use your tail a lot, so.
09:53I go, woo, woo, woo, and schlack, you know, something like that, you know.
09:58Are you hurt?
09:59It's true, because she's doing this to me.
10:01She's great.
10:02She know I'm a crocodile.
10:03When Jennifer looked at me, and she talked to me,
10:06she saw me as a crocodile.
10:09She didn't see me as Jean-Claude Van Damme.
10:13I started martial arts when I was 11 years old,
10:16and now I'm almost 50.
10:17I was one of the pioneers of martial arts,
10:22and I was the first guy in the world to do a split between two chairs,
10:25so that's why in the movie we have some great karate moves.
10:28Vengeance is served.
10:30We're really lucky to have Michelle Yeoh on the film, also.
10:32I see.
10:34Pain.
10:34Ow!
10:35And anger.
10:36How dare you!
10:37Followed by denial.
10:38This is not fortune-telling.
10:40You're just saying what's happening right now.
10:41No.
10:42She's obviously a kung fu legend,
10:43so we were all beyond excited to have her come take on the role.
10:46As a voice of wisdom in the movie,
10:49her voice just has that weight and that wisdom to it,
10:53and we wanted to make sure that the soothsayer had a voice
10:56that was as velvety as hers.
11:00Your story may not have such a happy beginning,
11:04but that doesn't make you who you are.
11:08It is the rest of your story.
11:10And I think Michelle was surprised that we asked her to do a character
11:12that doesn't even do kung fu.
11:14Like you could make me drink the...
11:18I wish that we could have given her, like, some crazy kung fu fight scene,
11:22but it just wouldn't have fit the character, the soothsayer.
11:25Feet of fury!
11:29We got a great cast.
11:30I know people are excited about just hearing those voices
11:33and seeing their moves.
11:35And it's the combination of exciting kung fu action
11:39with, you know, the ridiculous comedy.
11:42Disc of destruction!
11:49One of the films that I've made that I'm absolutely the most proud of,
11:53I think it is beautifully done.
11:55It's funny and it's touching and it's got great action
11:58and it's all those things that make you a great movie.
12:01I love you, Dad.
12:02To be part of this, it's a great feeling.
12:04It's just a special feeling.
12:05It's an action comedy.
12:09Taste the defeat!
12:11With a kung fu panda.
12:13I mean, come on.
12:14Kung fu still lives!
