00:00Joined here with Newton Spurs manager Matt Hayden after a honed defeat to Bridport.
00:04Matt, what are your first thoughts on that game?
00:07Frustrated, gutted. Our last two games we were brilliant, played some really good football,
00:14scored some good goals, kept goals to a minimum and then I just don't know what happened today.
00:20We turned up, didn't play the way we like to play. There was a lot of panic on the ball,
00:27not a lot of control to what we were doing. They're a good physical and they're quite direct in what
00:33they do
00:33and to a certain level we dealt with it but it was the next phase after that which we weren't
00:39picking
00:40up on and then when we received the ball like I said there was no control, we were just, we
00:45weren't
00:45playing football and that's just not the way we've been going for however long now since pre-season
00:51we've been working on being a good footballing side, high tempo, trying to get the ball forward
00:56but just the way we were doing it, like I said there's no control, we were just turning around
01:00and lumping it and it's just not what we expect, it's not what we want so yes there was harsh
01:05words
01:06at full time and then changing rooms after but I think it was deserved. Obviously you went ahead
01:10in the early minutes, was that all the more frustrating to score early and then not really
01:14have those chances again? Yeah I think we started brightly, I think it was our first opportunity we went
01:19through and it was a great finish by Jozza, good football and from then on I thought we've carried on
01:24from the
01:25last two games so and then we just, like I said we then sat back, we didn't deal with the
01:32stuff that
01:32they were throwing at us, fair play to them going 1-0 down, they just kept coming at us, it
01:36was
01:36relentless, it was wave after wave after wave and the boys just weren't dealing with it and like I said
01:42when we did deal with it we weren't good enough on the ball to be able to really hurt them
01:47like we know
01:47we can do. In terms of personnel obviously a lot of players in and a lot of players out in
01:51the summer,
01:52is there any sort of positions you may need to still strengthen or are you happy with the current group?
01:57I think the problem is before I come in most of the first team had already left so coming in
02:03I was
02:03hoping most of them would still be here because they've done brilliantly for years but unfortunately
02:09they had offers, they went elsewhere before I got here so I pretty much had a blank canvas, a
02:14handful maybe so I'm really happy with the squad especially with what we get from the club, the
02:21sort of quality player compared to that is up there, I'm happy with that, the problem is we got a
02:27few
02:27injuries like Dunlop, Dunlop's just one player of the month and he's away today, he was a big miss
02:34today especially against a big physical side. So I think it just needs, I've got a lot of patience,
02:41not a lot of patience but I'm willing to give them time knowing full well the quality they've got,
02:47they've got my belief, they've got my backing, I just know it needs a little bit of time.
02:53Like I said the last two games have been brilliant, today was a bit of a blip where we've turned
02:57up and
02:58weren't quite at it but the boys have got my back and I know full well it's there, it's said
03:04new
03:04surroundings, new team, a lot of them have played together but not in this scenario so it just takes
03:11just takes that little bit of patience, a little bit of time knowing full well eventually it will
03:15hopefully come good. And just lastly what is the message to the players ahead of a pretty busy month
03:20with a lot of home games to look forward to? Yeah so I mean the start of the season seems
03:25like we've
03:25just been traveling here there and everywhere so it's quite nice to be back at home for the next
03:29well today and then the next three games. We just need to make this place difficult to come to.
03:37We've been so used to traveling and being the underdog going to these sort of places
03:43like last week at Torridside nobody expecting us to get a result there so we need to now get into
03:49the
03:49routine of when we're at home we need to dominate every aspect of the game and make sure it's not
03:54easy
03:55for any team that comes here and we need to start we need to start doing that now in the
03:59next few
03:59weeks. Pre-season maybe didn't help because I think we played one home game even all of pre-season was
04:04away so it's just like I said getting used to the new surroundings and just getting into the routine
04:11of making this place as cliche as it sounds as a fortress for when teams come here.
04:15Coop right!
