00:00Joined here with Newton Spurs manager Matt Hayden after a home defeat against Clumpton.
00:05Start with your first thoughts on that one Matt. Incredibly frustrated, I feel let down by the
00:11boys. First 15-20 minutes, maybe out of push, we looked at the better side, creating a lot of
00:17chances and then one freak goal went in where we didn't take control. First and second phase
00:25and then their striker went one-on-one with a keeper good finish but we then couldn't get
00:32another foothold in the game. We said at half-time it's only 1-0, said the game's obviously still there,
00:40it's only 1-0. The game was still there, we need to work a little bit harder, we need to
00:45take more
00:45control of situations and when we go forward we need to have better composure, better conviction
00:49to what we're doing and I don't know what that second half was, we just couldn't get a foothold
00:56in the game. The game wasn't pretty, there wasn't any nice football played, any good football from
01:03either side really, it was a lot of end-to-end. Our second goal was a complete freak mistake, I
01:11mean
01:12Jimmy's throwing it straight to their striker but what I will say and I've said it to everybody,
01:17Jimmy's saved a lot this year, he's kept us the score down to a minimum at times, he's kept us
01:22in
01:23games, he's helped us win games so that one mistake doesn't define the player or the season he's had
01:29and it doesn't define the result today, ultimately everybody else in front of him was far from good
01:34enough. Incredibly frustrated, very gutted to lose in the manner we did. If we played well and still lost,
01:42it's easy to accept but to play poorly and lose when we've just come off the back of a really
01:49good
01:49win against Sticker makes it even harder to accept. You mentioned that, is that then especially
01:56frustrating because you've had a good win in the cup to not then be able to carry that on?
02:00Yeah I mean our problem this season has been consistency. I think last time we spoke, we won two games
02:07on the
02:07bounce and then went Bridport here, we weren't great. Won in the Vars last week, very good result, gritty,
02:15dug ourselves in and then today was almost like the complete opposite from the warm-up. The warm-up was
02:21horrific, I think I told the boys three or four times during the warm-up they need to step it
02:25up
02:25because it's not good enough and then that sort of travelled into the game a little bit. As soon as
02:31the
02:31first inconvenience come, the boys just all dropped out. We have to regroup very quickly because we've
02:39got a cup game Tuesday and that's the only thing we could do now. We've just got to brush this
02:45one
02:46off, we've got to accept it that we weren't good enough and come back stronger in the next game.
02:49After the game, there's pretty stern conversations on the field. I appreciate that's private within the
02:54group but can you share the general sort of conversation there? Basically just said if you're
03:01going to turn up to football, if you want to play football, you've got to have the hunger and desire
03:04to win football games. You can't just turn up and go through the motions because A, you're letting me
03:10down, Sam down, Rich down but also the club. But mostly they're letting themselves down.
03:19Everybody should be in football to want to win games. That's what we love about football is winning
03:23football matches. But today it just seemed like that wasn't on their agenda. I know they haven't
03:31done it intentionally, obviously, but to win football games, you've got to have that bit of added edge.
03:37And I just said to them, they need to go away and look at themselves and pick themselves up quickly
03:41ahead of Tuesday.
