00:00As far as Indiana and Ohio State here, Dave, I'll give you a dealer's choice.
00:04Which of these two games or teams is a little bit more interesting to you here week one?
00:09I think it's Indiana simply because if you go back and listen to a lot of the quotes that our
00:14favorite Kurt Signetti has said when he, you know, has those little one-liners.
00:18If you pay attention, one of the things he said that bothered him last year, a year that they went
00:22undefeated and won the national championship,
00:23he's still angry about the week one close game versus Old Dominion.
00:27Still angry about it.
00:29They went 14-0 and won the national title.
00:31And he's still angry about being a close game versus Old Dominion.
00:35So I think this Indiana team goes out there and crushes North Texas because I don't think they make the
00:40same mistake.
00:41I think they go out there and say, hey, Old Dominion was close.
00:44Let's go out there, not mess around.
00:47And I like this game more than I like the Ohio State narrative.
00:51And I think that, you know, Signetti seems to be one of those mind game guys who can just control
00:57his own narrative with his team.
00:59Doesn't want to make the same mistake because that Old Dominion game made people wonder, is Indiana really that good?
01:04Well, you know, they went undefeated and won the national title.
01:07What else is there to prove?
01:08The only thing he has to prove is he can win a week one game by a lot.
01:12So I think they go out there and kick the crap out of North Texas.
01:14So I'm actually on the other side and I find myself, I find myself wondering a little bit if Signetti
01:25likes the week one game to be somewhat closer than it's supposed to be.
01:30Because, you know, you have to find your motivation in spots because it wasn't just last year's closer game against
01:36ODU.
01:37You know, you go back to year one, they played FIU and they only won by, I think it was
01:4031-7 final score.
01:43So they only win the game by 24, right?
01:44So on average, you know, we're winning by 20 instead of winning by 40.
01:51The other piece of it is, you know, it's so funny you get into these spots and Georgia-Tennessee State,
02:00right?
02:00It's like, listen, I'm not particularly worried about Tennessee State.
02:04Even if you go to Ohio State, Ball State, you're like, ah, listen, this isn't about Ball State.
02:09I'm actually betting on North Texas because I am betting on Neil Brown.
02:15You know, I was pretty positive, Dave, that I was going to be the first person to mention Deshaun Watson
02:19on this show today.
02:20But, you know, you mentioned him earlier when we talked about the Clemson dynasty.
02:24Well, the Deshaun Watson team that lost once and won a national championship beating Nick Saban in the championship game,
02:30played a Neil Brown-Troy team, and the final score was 30-24.
02:36He's been in spots before at lower-level schools.
02:39This is a guy with a ton of head coach.
02:43I mean, you're talking about like a decade between Troy and West Virginia,
02:46was the Texas assistant coach last year, head coach last year.
02:50I understand that the whole roster plays for Oklahoma State.
02:53I get that.
02:54I think it's given us a delightful number because people actually know,
03:00oh, wait a minute, North Texas aren't good anymore.
03:02Mestermaker, you know, is a cowboy now.
03:05I'm buying this big, big number here with North Texas.
03:09The quick thing I will bring up, you talk about narratives.
03:12It's not what I was expecting to be available, David,
03:15but I truly do think Jeremiah Smith sees the Malachi Tony box score and tells saying,
03:20hey, listen, brother, it's got to be 100 and a score.
03:22Anything less is unacceptable here against Ball State.
03:27And I think that's going to be a fascinating thing to watch all year because even though
03:31the Heisman looks like it's a quarterback award, between Jalen Smith and Malachi Tony,
03:36they'll be like, hey, don't forget about us.
03:38We're going to throw a couple of 200 yards and three touchdowns.
03:40And yes, he's going to go out there and name his yardage today in the huddle.
03:44And he's going to go out there and say, throw me the damn ball to borrow from Keyshawn
03:49because I think that's what he's going to need to do.
03:51So yeah, playing some of his props might be the way to go in that game.
