00:00How much of this do you kind of pin on how the whole cut,
00:04the athletic department's operating with Cody Campbell and the fact that we
00:07know that they probably invested 35 to $40 million in this roster and 5
00:13million into Sorsby. And it's like, yeah, well,
00:15you could probably get another quarterback, but not now,
00:17like there's nobody else there. And you need that,
00:20that centerpiece to be able to get this done.
00:23I mean, it's the most important position with Brendan Sorsby.
00:27Texas tech is the top 10 team. They're probably the big 12 favorite.
00:30They don't play BYU or Utah. Their, their schedule's pretty friendly without him.
00:35Even if Will Hammond comes back from a torn ACL in week one or week two,
00:39they're probably 20 to 22. So yeah, it's, it is a huge deal.
00:44And something we were talking about in that last segment, it's like, if,
00:49if Ohio state,
00:50one of their high investment players ran into some trouble, yes,
00:53I'm sure Buckeye fans would defend them, defend him. But again,
00:57there's a line. And I think the way,
00:59I don't think you would hear Ohio state boosters coming out and talking the way
01:03Cody Campbell is and taking shots at other schools. You know,
01:07I think the athletic department would have a much more measured response.
01:11Don't you? I mean,
01:11Ryan day certainly would have a more measured response than a Joey McGuire.
01:16It would probably be more of a, let the facts play out type deal.
01:20I would anticipate most schools would have that. And,
01:23and that's, I'm just trying to figure out, I mean, Cody Campbell,
01:25I think has done a great, some great stuff for Texas tech.
01:29We'll get into some of the other stuff that he he's got going on there,
01:32but I mean, nobody knew who this guy really was bill.
01:37What a year ago, right?
01:38Maybe six months even. And, you know,
01:41just with the proliferation of NIL and his prominence now talking and dealing
01:45with stuff. And he's an alum. He played there.
01:46And I get all of those things, but you know,
01:50the Georgia comment and different stuff was almost crazy bill to see that.
01:55I feel like Texas tech over the next couple of years, while it's still,
01:59before something gets done,
02:00they want to try to make as big as push as possible to set themselves up for
02:04the future with where they're at in the trajectory they're headed.
02:08And it seems like some of the stuff they've been doing in social media might be
02:13working contradictory to their ultimate objective.
02:17Well, I, you know, in the NIL era we're in now,
02:20it doesn't surprise me that the Texas schools are spending the way that they
02:24are. There are five schools from Texas,
02:26five FBS schools that are in our top 25 preseason top 25.
02:30It's not just Texas tech spending a ton of money.
02:34SMU, you know, they're an ACC.
02:36They bought their way into the ACC and they're contending every year.
02:40We know Texas is going to spend money.
02:42We know Texas A&M is going to spend money and Houston's in the top 25 now.
02:47And Houston has a good coach and Willie Fritz and they're going to be around.
02:50So all of these,
02:51it's like a kind of real life episode of land man in some ways that the,
02:55these schools are building their corporation, so to speak.
02:59And Texas tech wants to be a part of that.
03:01So everything Cody Campbell has done, I understand,
03:04but it's like when you start popping off at Georgia and you know,
03:08Joey McGuire in front of the touchdown club,
03:10which I take with a grain of salt starts, you know,
03:14he says it's not murder. Well, we know, we know,
03:18we also know it's not a speeding ticket.
03:20So I think what Brendan Sorsby did with the gambling,
03:25it's just something that most college football fans with common sense.
03:28No, you can't do without consequence.
