00:10lost to ohio state they're four and one and they're a pretty good team um maybe not explosive
00:15on offense but if you look at this and kirk ference what he's done i mean he would have been
00:20he he kind of bill i think is the poster child for the 2014 playoff because if you have 2014
00:25playoff iowa probably makes the playoff i don't know three and a half out of five years you know
00:31probably seven out of ten years like with kirk ference they're they're never going to be bad
00:36they're usually going to win eight or nine games and in most years that's going to be enough to put
00:41them in and i wouldn't nebraska play each other at the end of the season and so assuming both of
00:45those
00:45teams go in there with two or three losses i mean is that enough for that being maybe a de
00:50facto play
00:51in game to a 2014 playoff like will that increase the interest in that game in your mind that might
00:58offset some of these other negative factors we've talked about well i think steel said it the 12
01:03team's kind of a a good middle ground we've had some good playoff chases the last two years with
01:08some of these matchups that have put teams in the playoff but i think if you go to 24 you're
01:14gonna
01:14you know you know uh trying to sell a four loss team as a playoff team and i just think
01:21it waters
01:22it down too much whereas you know i'm a guy that like kind of like the bcs era but i
01:27i realized it
01:28was wildly unpopular towards the end of the year and then i the 14 playoff did go stale i still

01:34we we skipped the eight part it would have been perfect to me i really believe that that that would
01:39have been like a a really good format but 12 like steel said you you have some of these matchups

01:45november you know i byu texas tech was for a playoff berth um a couple others like that that
01:52but when you're getting to you're trying to sell to the casual fan minnesota iowa or iowa nebraska
01:59with two eight and three teams i don't know how hard they're gonna watch that and that's what i think
02:05and you combine that with in september are people if i guess bobby one thing i would say and maybe
02:12you can help me with this if we do go to 24 do teams beef up their early season schedule

02:19they do it in ohio high school football where the teams with the tough schedules get more computer
02:23points and those kind of things as long as that's taken into account you could sell me on that for
02:29sure
02:31i think if you do that objectively bill this is what honestly i would like to see come back
02:37is that they put some sort of rankings rating system in there similar and akin to what a lot
02:42of places do in high school and with a two team and a bcs there's a lot of ambiguity and
02:48there's a
02:48lot of room and there's nuance to have those conversations even in a four team playoff i didn't
02:52like it 12 team whatever you get 16 and more i don't care about people arguing about the back end
02:59of them getting screwed by the computers um but i think that that gives it an objective measure to
03:06where your schedule and who you're playing actually matters and it's the same and we don't mess with
03:12that thing and it's the same every year so i think maybe if you go back and you eliminate the
03:19humans
03:20which i think we're needed in a four and maybe a 12 team maybe 10 like 8 to 10 for
03:25sure 12 16 we'll
03:27talk but if you can give it that objective measuring system so then everybody knows what it is you can
03:34kind of project like hey you win these games you play tougher teams you're getting more points you're
03:38getting home games easier paths whatever that is because i don't think like then we're not arguing
03:43about the computer screwing somebody about who's the second versus third team or who's even the fifth
03:48versus the fourth yeah i i would agree with that too so i i like i do like a combination

03:55element and computer element um when you when you when you said eliminate the humans i was having like
04:01a terminator 2 flashback there bobby i'm sorry let's not eliminate all of us but uh to your point as
04:08long
04:08as we know the rules you know in ohio high school football i hate to keep i like the system
04:13i like the
04:14computer system i like the way that it rewards strength of schedule victories all those things
04:18and uh it's everybody knows the rules of engagement i think coach trussell used to say that all the time
04:24as long as you knew the the rules of engagement you would go out and play and you know what
04:29what's at
04:29stake and how you play the rules of the tournament um but but i do think you know the value
04:35has changed
04:36i'm still excited about georgia alabama this week i'll be super excited about ohio state indiana
04:41that'll be another one and it's building towards that miami notre dame game on november 7th and then
04:47oregon ohio state we are i think oregon will be in the top 10 by then so we have several
04:52top 10
04:52showdowns coming but you just wonder you know i want them to be treated like big time college
04:59football games and i hope the casual fan sticks with it
