00:00The threat is far from over, but not as many states dealing with the severe thunderstorm warning.
00:06So we've had some in Kentucky, down into Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.
00:10A couple of flash flood warnings, like the one I just circled there, but mostly damaging wind.
00:15In fact, let's look at the storm reports.
00:17And you know, the other thing that I'm really noticing here, I don't think I've seen this number of lightning
00:22reports at once.
00:23We're seeing quite a few of them.
00:25We'll take a look in a second, but we do have a new flash flood report coming in, too.
00:28So I want to take a look at that.
00:30And this is, oh, speaking of the lightning, there's three reports kind of on top of each other.
00:34So that's what it clicked on for me.
00:37Lightning struck a church steeple, caused it to catch fire right around 3.30 into Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
00:42I'm going to zoom in a little bit more here because I want to take a look at, hopefully, one
00:46of these flash flood reports.
00:48I might have to zoom in even more when they're right on top of each other like this.
00:52Remember, the U.S. Coast Guard reported the majority of the roads in downtown Elizabeth City was covered in water.
00:56So a lot of problems there in Elizabeth City, unfortunately.
00:59That's where we have a flash flood warning in place.
01:01A metal roof also blown off a house and damaged a power line there.
01:06So some very strong wind gusts that we've seen here that's just talking about damage.
01:09So it doesn't have a magnitude for the wind gusts along with it.
01:12Let's take a look at some of these other wind reports that we've seen.
01:15Tree down, another tree down, more trees down.
01:18A lot of these are going to be the same.
01:20It's a lot of trees down.
01:21We do have some hail reports.
01:22And, of course, it just doesn't want to click where I want to click today.
01:26Half-inch sized hail.
01:27It's probably the largest that we've seen so far.
01:29Not a lot of hail.
01:31Definitely, when we zoom out again, you can see the wind reports are much more than the hail reports.
01:37I do want to take a look at some of these other lightning reports.
01:40Tree caught on fire from lightning strike in Elizabeth, West Virginia.
01:43Then we have into Coolville, which is Athens County, southeastern Ohio, a bale of hay struck by lightning and surrounding
01:48field caught on fire.
01:49And then the worst of this is Steubenville, Ohio, a man struck by lightning and injured while mowing his grass
01:56right around 11 a.m.
01:57So you're a reminder that even if it's not a severe thunderstorm, lightning, like what you're seeing in the nation's
02:02capital there from yesterday, lightning is dangerous.
02:06All right, with so many wind reports, no surprise, we have many, many power outages.
02:09And a lot of these are left over from yesterday.
02:11I mean, Michigan down to 210,000 customers without power.
02:15That's pretty much all from yesterday.
02:16Pennsylvania down to 60,000 customers without power.
02:18We're making progress.
02:19We're seeing the numbers trend downwards over the last couple of hours here.
02:23But Ohio, Maryland and Virginia still on the map.
02:25North Carolina, you can just barely see newly on the map with more than 10,000 customers without power.
02:30But West Virginia went below 10,000 customers.
02:33So you are off the map.
02:34Proof those power workers, they're out there.
02:36They're trying to get power restored.
02:37But I know there's so many of you, it's just not fast enough.
02:40So we continue to see our watches dwindling as things drop to the south.
02:44But Richmond, Roanoke, Roanoke, you're kind of on the line there.
02:47And Suffolk, watch out until 9 p.m. further south.
02:50That watch out until 10 p.m.
02:52But we zoom out, look at the big picture.
02:53This is the entire area that we're concerned about for severe weather.
02:56And this does continue through the overnight hours, especially for the southern side of this, where those numerous severe storms
03:02are expected.
03:02And that orange level 2 out of 4 moderate risk area.
03:05We're talking mainly damaging wind, which is what we've seen so far.
03:08Some flash flooding.
03:08And I'm not going to completely rule out a tornado or two.
03:11But it really is mainly wind and flash flooding that we're concerned about at this point.
03:16Now, the severe threat is going to be moving further to the south as we go into the holiday weekend.
03:21Yeah, we've got to get ready for this in the Carolinas and even by Sunday, parts of Georgia.
