00:00Tony Lawback's feed. He's also out chasing. You can see a rain-free base here, maybe a little bit of
00:05a rain shaft right and left of that setting sun.
00:08A pretty photogenic shot there, and Tony has a really nice shot of, again, the base of this cloud.
00:15If a funnel were to drop out of this here, you can see a little appendage there, but it's going
00:20to be very well highlighted by the backlighting there.
00:24So, again, lots of storms out there.
00:27When we look at the reports, some of the most significant reports that we've seen so far have, I'm going
00:32to turn the lightning off, there's just so much of it, have involved large hail.
00:36And you can see one of the more recent reports here from 545 Central Time.
00:40Two-inch diameter hail there in Lake City, Minnesota.
00:43That's been the theme.
00:44Many of these bigger reports, here's a 2.5-inch large hailstone there.
00:49That's big hail.
00:50Here we're getting up to the size of baseballs, maybe a little larger there, near Hader, Minnesota.
00:55And that can really do some damage, busting windshields and so forth.
00:59There's a 2-inch report.
01:00Three-inch diameter hail there in Fairbalt, Minnesota, from 353 Central Time.
01:04That's the biggest of the events so far that I have seen.
01:08Three-inch diameter hail.
01:09We're getting into big-time hail.
01:11More 2-inch reports.
01:12So that's been the stormy corridor with the worst of the trouble here, right across southern Minnesota,
01:18as these storms have been rumbling at times.
01:21There's been some rotation, but the hail has been our main motivator for that moderate risk.
01:26Two out of four on the AccuWeather Severe Threat Index.
01:28Damaging wind running into Defiance, Ohio here, Williams County as well.
01:33Look out there in Hillsdale and Lenawee Counties of Michigan there.
01:37Severe threats on the map.
01:38And then up into western parts of Iowa and southeast parts of South Dakota, moving into southern Minnesota.
01:46Strong storms.
01:47But that southeast Minnesota activity has been pretty tenacious with the large hail.
01:51The severe thunderstorm watches have continued here.
01:55In fact, there's been a little bit of an extension east with the easternmost watch.
01:59I'm going to modify the map.
02:01I just want to mouse wheel out a little bit so you can see the extension of a few of
02:05these counties into more of Ohio.
02:07So it's a little bit more east into areas, it looks like Henry County, and just one step east from
02:15where it had been.
02:16So areas near Defiance, Ohio, under a severe thunderstorm watch.
02:20A little bit of an extension eastward.
02:22Meanwhile, tornado watch continues in southern Minnesota, south central Wisconsin.
02:27Baraboo, Oshkosh, Tippewa Falls, La Crosse, then into Mankato, Minnesota.
02:31Algona, Indiana, the northern tier of counties there.
02:33Tornado watch in effect until 10 p.m. central time.
02:35And the somewhat more recent, now this has been out for over an hour, but this was the most recent
02:41watch to be issued.
02:42Northeastern Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota, northwestern Iowa.
02:46Severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. there.
02:49So we're concerned about also the southern plains tonight for severe thunderstorms.
02:54But the biggest issue has been to the north, and the risk is still present.
02:58Minnesota, Wisconsin, damaging wind, large hail, and tornadoes.
03:02And we're going to be facing that risk continuing in many areas.
03:06Minneapolis here with a moderate risk, but that's a two out of four on our scale.
03:10Heavy rain, damaging winds, and also some big concerns.
03:14We're going to take a quick look at the risk for tomorrow.
03:17As this next disturbance rotates east out of the plains and moving into the central plains,
03:24as that swirling area of vorticity, that's out of this area of low pressure in the southwest,
03:31as that enters the plains, it becomes an extra lifting mechanism here.
03:35And we're concerned about severe weather.
03:36So a quick look ahead to tomorrow.
03:39We have some strong storms popping, and our main focus is going to be the risk for damaging thunderstorms,
03:44including a high risk for severe weather.
03:46Three out of four on the four-tiered Severe Threat Index for Chicago and Madison
03:50and areas like Rockford, Illinois.
03:52So just a quick look at this, and we're going to head over to the big three here for just
03:55a second or two.
03:56High risk of damaging wind and hail.
03:58Big concerns in this area near Chicago tomorrow evening.
04:01A lot of our coverage will be focused on that tomorrow night.
