John, Kevin, and Barb discuss the historical and theological threads connecting Restorationism, British Israelism, Hebrew Roots, Latter Rain, Pentecostalism, the charismatic movement, and the New Apostolic Reformation. They examine how movements seeking a simpler or supposedly restored form of Christianity can begin with biblical concepts while gradually adding extra-biblical details, practices, terminology, and structures.

The conversation also explores Jewish feasts and terminology, IHOPKC, the Jesus movement, spiritual warfare, authority, restoration theology, and the tendency for movements to preserve inherited doctrines even when earlier teachers are acknowledged to have gone into error. Throughout the discussion, John, Kevin, and Barb emphasize returning authority to Jesus and questioning religious systems that increasingly place authority, identity, or legacy in human leaders and movements.

00:31Hello, and welcome to another episode of the William Branham Historical Research Podcast.
00:35I'm your host, John Collins, the author and founder of William Branham Historical Research
00:40at william-branham.org.
00:42And with me, I have my very special guests, Kevin and Barb Sisti, the hosts of Pellegrino
00:47Walk.
00:48Kevin, Barb, it's good to have you back.
00:50I was just thinking the other day, I needed to bring you guys back and get caught up on
00:54everything that you're digging into.
00:56And ironically, I find you're digging into many of the things that I'm digging into.
01:01So it's a very interesting conversation to talk about the crossing of paths.
01:05But to give the audience a background, I recently had a guest on who was talking about her experience
01:11in Hebrew roots.
01:12And this is something that as you're investigating this mess that we came from, all of these different
01:19trails of history, there are rabbit trails that you can go down, where you find the weirdest,
01:24insanely crazy, non-gospel doctrines that somehow plagued all of these different movements.
01:32And yet, they cross-pollinated into the main core of Pentecostalism and charismatic movement,
01:39etc.
01:39One of those is Hebrew roots.
01:41And I can't say from my research that Hebrew roots directly affected Pentecostalism.
01:46But what I can say is, when you take a layer off of that onion and you go back to
01:51Charles
01:52Fox Parham, you find that Parham is into British Israelism.
01:55You find that Hebrew roots spun off of this weird British Israelism mess.
02:00And so they both share a same grandfather.
02:02And many of the ideas cross-pollinated.
02:05And anyway, with that, I'll let you introduce it.
02:08But there's so much to talk about.
02:10Yeah, there's so much to talk about, John.
02:12It's interesting that we're on the same kind of trail here.
02:17But when I originally reached out to you, this is, I don't know, a couple, well, maybe a year
02:22before we even started the channel.
02:24I remember I was, we were in the desert and we were struggling.
02:27We were coming out of IHOPKC.
02:28And we were dealing with dominion, like, okay, they're talking about a billion soul harvest.
02:34We don't see the billion soul harvest in scripture.
02:38So what's it all about?
02:39And so I remember emailing you and I was like, okay, I've taken dominion back to like Rush
02:45Duny and the Reconstructionists.
02:47But how far back does it go?
02:50And so it's interesting when you're talking about Hebrew roots and we're talking about these
02:55streams of dominion in the church, Barb and I have prayerfully decided to visit Spain and
03:04Portugal in the fall and document some of these places, some of the places where the Knights
03:11Templar were and they walked and some of the historical places that really brought this
03:16idea of dominion to the church.
03:22Combine that, of course, with Hebrew roots, British Israelism, all the things coming out
03:27of the latter rain.
03:28I don't know.
03:29It's just this big ball of twine for me now.
03:32So it's like I can go, and I'm sure you're much better at this than I am, but I could
03:37go
03:37in any direction at any time and find those rabbit trails now.
03:41Well, but that's what we're doing, and then we'll visit the south of France as well, where
03:46we're going to look at some of the Kabbalistic influences in France, how that grew throughout
03:52the year, and something that I've been dealing with in a series that we've been doing called
03:56Noble Lies, and that's looking at Freedom 250 and Rededicate 250, where all these concepts
04:04are right on the stage in front of us, and Hebrew roots are involved with that as well.
04:11So, yeah, so we're definitely on the trail, or trails and sun trails and all the things.
04:18Rabbit trails is probably accurate, trying to discern where God is moving with us, because
04:24there are a lot of trails you can follow, and we just, our goal in heart is always to
04:31point people back to Jesus of the Bible, and so some of that stuff takes us closer, and
04:36some of us takes us farther.
04:37So, sometimes it's a hit-and-miss approach, but we think we're doing some things that are
04:44really necessary right now, and we're learning a lot as we go, because it's pretty involved,
04:51and it's, you know, when you said the cross-pollination, John, in the beginning, it's really interesting.
04:57I used to hear that term a lot at IHOPKC, that they wanted to cross-pollinate with the
05:03other ministries and bring in all this stuff, not in a good way, but like, and so when you
05:09said that, I was like, oh, wow, I haven't heard that word in quite a while, but it's
05:13interesting, because this is the fruit of that, I really think, so, yeah.
05:17Well, and there's another concept that I'm starting to investigate how and why, and it's
05:23in podcasts that I've already recorded that have not yet been released, so you haven't
05:27heard these, but I'm looking at specifically, when you have all of these movements that spin
05:33off of the main trunk of the core of Pentecostalism, whenever a movement spins off, they don't spin
05:38off and say, we're just going to disregard everything in the Bible.
05:41What they do is they build a movement based off of some doctrine that they believe to be
05:45in the Bible, and yes, many of them are in error, but the error is that they don't fully
05:51understand and grasp the concepts that are presented in the Bible, and what I've learned
05:57is this, whenever this happens, there will be core concepts within that structure of doctrine
06:03that they're separating for, that you can find a Bible verse that loosely fits what they're
06:10saying, but all of the details that they give to back up the doctrine, they're all extra
06:15biblical, and so you can't find the details, and when they're preaching, I grew up with this
06:20too, when they're preaching, they will say, why can't the people see it?
06:23It's right here, plain in the Bible, and they're talking about that core foundation.
06:27They're not talking about all of the extra biblical details that they've given, so these movements
06:32spin off, and they get these vast, crazy details, and the thing that drove me there essentially
06:39was I was looking at the deliverance ministry that I grew up in, and we, I have the advantage
06:44because we were in a movement that was literally static from 1947 to 1965.
06:50We're hearing those sermons over and over again, so my mind was stuck in the 50s and 60s.
06:55Well, that version of deliverance does not match the spiritual warfare, the spiritual mapping,
07:00the, all of the different weirdness that you see today, they're adding all of these details
07:07on top of the deliverance, and the deliverance version that I had was adding details on top
07:12of biblical deliverance.
07:14There is a precedent for biblical deliverance, but there isn't for spiritual mapping and demons
07:19that are territorial demons and all of this weird stuff.
07:22So, in the details lies the error, but in the core concept, there are problems with the
07:29way they interpret it, and what I've learned as it relates to Hebrew roots is there was
07:35that core concept of British Israelism that was an error.
07:38It was loosely based off of specific things they read in the Bible, but then because of
07:43the error, all of the details spun off all of these different cults.
07:47Yeah, exactly, and I do know, John, just from my research, Hebrew roots has grown kind of
07:56next to Ladder Rain, adjacent to it, and kind of mixed with it, from what I understand.
08:03I believe Gwen Shaw was heavily involved in Hebrew roots in Israel.
08:10Derek Prince kind of slides into this a little bit, but I think it did kind of grow up next
08:16to it, and it's so hard when I'm trying to look at all this stuff, I always have to keep
08:22an open mind, because it's so hard to determine theologies of individuals, and whether they're
08:28in or out or adjacent or whatever, the nuance, especially today, of belief is just incredible
08:36out there.
08:37You know, even if you talk about the NAR proper, there's like this spectrum of belief in the
08:44NAR.
08:46So, it's interesting when you're looking back to Hebrew roots and seeing, one of the things
08:52that kind of, I always say this part, but kind of stuck in my crawl from the first time
08:57I was looking at Hebrew roots and the one new man, kind of all that coming together, was
09:03this idea of why is this false NAR church embracing Jewish terms, Jewish feasts, names, so on and
09:19so forth, and everything Jewish, and I was like, why is that?
09:23There's got to be something to that.
09:26And the more I looked into Hebrew roots, I started to understand that they're really
09:32going back, they're using the Old Testament a lot for whatever justification they want
09:38to place on the New Testament sometimes, but as well, going back to really some of the Old
09:46Testament customs back to Judaism to a certain extent, and even when you consider things
09:54like in the NAR where we hear of David's tabernacle or the presence coming back to the temple and
09:59all this, again, an Old Testament concept, and sounds good, but the Holy Spirit has already
10:08been given at Pentecost.
10:09So, well, and they give, like you're talking about, it's a cherry-picked scripture out of
10:17context that is usually the starting point, or there's a concept that they've interpreted
10:24and they've determined and they've created that they go back and lay over scripture.
10:29I remember when we talked to Dean Briggs that time, he kept talking about contending prayer
10:33is biblical, and I said, I don't see that phrase anywhere in the Bible.
10:37He's like, oh, contending prayer, it has to be, it's very different.
10:40Daniel, Daniel did contending prayer.
10:42I'm like, you can call it that all you want.
10:45Daniel was praying to God, and he had a prayer because he was a faithful, he wanted to be
10:51in relationship with the Lord.
10:53Daniel wasn't advocating contending prayer and telling us this is how you pray, and he
10:58wasn't doing a blueprint, and he was praying to the God of the universe because he was repenting
11:05and asking for forgiveness for what they did in Daniel 9.
11:09It's not an instance of contending prayer, and we do the format, and it's actually the
11:15story of God, and so we need to be very, very careful how we handle it because it's living
11:21and active, and God is still speaking through it, through his spirit.
11:25And so some of this stuff that we're doing to justify, you know, these terms and the way
11:30we do things, especially in the NAR, is just, it's egregious, and it's beyond extra-biblical.
11:37It's twisting it, and it's turning into something else entirely.
11:41Absolutely.
11:42I don't envy you guys, and I'm going to say that openly because I began my journey in much
11:48the same way as you.
11:49I started theologically.
11:51I wanted to understand what is this mess theologically, and I went down that path probably for five
11:57years, and as you notice, my website and the podcast, everything now is more focused on
12:03history than it is theology, and this is the reason I came to terms with the fact that it
12:09was the equivalent of alphabet soup.
12:12It was theology alphabet soup.
12:14Picture an entire set of encyclopedias, and every single word in there is in a bowl of soup,
12:19and you've got to piece it all together and figure out what all this mess is.
12:22You have theologies that are cross-pollinated, theologies that are descended from grandparents
12:27and great-grandparents and so on, theologies from politics, from movements, from all of
12:32these different things, and I finally decided I'll never wade through that mess.
12:37It would take me the rest of my life to even get the first volume of the encyclopedia, so
12:42I started instead with movements and history, and one of the things that I found, I mentioned
12:48British Israelism.
12:49That's a key component, but remember, it is an alphabet soup, so you have different components.
12:54British Israelism mixed with Restorationism, so when you combine these two things, British
13:01Israelism says we are the descendants of the lost ten tribes of Israel, and that's a new
13:06concept.
13:07Now we've created a new movement.
13:08Now Restorationism teaches we have a church that is in error, we must restore the church,
13:15and we have British Israelism.
13:17When those two mix, we're restoring it to Israel.
13:20So you go back and you read the Old Testament, how do I bring in the feasts, how do I
13:25bring
13:25in the tabernacle, how do I do all of these things that Israel did, and at its core, that's
13:31really what Lateran was.
13:32Remember, Feast of Tabernacles was a book written in the Lateran movement, and that was written
13:38explicitly to restore the manifested sons of God, Joel's army, everything that IHOP KC stood
13:44for, well, that comes from the merger of those two movements.
13:49Whenever you try to restore the church, we must restore the feasts, and when we restore
13:53the feasts, then we will bring down heaven.
13:56The problem is, that's not what the gospel says.
13:58Jesus will return.
13:59It's not something that you do.
14:01It's something that he has already done, and he will return.
14:04And they flip the gospel on its head, because to restore the church in the way that they
14:10put the format, it's literally back to the Old Covenant, and the entire New Covenant is
14:15for nothing.
14:16Yeah, absolutely, John.
14:18And we've got a whole series right now that we've started called Tikkun Alam, where we're
14:24dealing with, of course, the Jewish phrase, meaning the restoration of creation, technically
14:29the universe, right?
14:31Right, but amazing, there was a prophecy from the Zohar, and we've been getting into this
14:39a little bit, but the prophecy was basically that the wisdom from above would meet the well
14:45springs below.
14:46And it's really interesting, I've been tracing the restoration movements, beginnings, Stone
14:50Campbell, about the 1820s, and really ramping up towards 1840, and then moving into the
14:57holiness movement, moving into the Pentecostal movement, and restoring, restoring, restoring,
15:01restoring, like a big snowball that started out in the beginning, and it's just picking
15:06up, it's picking up everything in its way.
15:09And it's not really restoring anything.
15:12What it's doing is, it's picturines, esoteric doctrines, doctrines from all kinds of sources,
15:19and bringing them in, and I think personally that what we're looking at, the huge problem
15:27out there, is this restoration movement.
15:31I think it's much bigger than the NAR.
15:34I think its threads are all over the world, and individual theologies, and movement theologies,
15:40and all the things, but we've been tracing this, it's really, really interesting, and
15:47the correlation to Jewish mysticism, tikkun olam, restoration, restoration movement, there's
15:56a lot of parallels in both of those.
15:59Right.
15:59Well, and it is effectively erasing the need for the cross, why Jesus' coming mattered entirely,
16:09and, you know, Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets, that's what he said, and
16:14so, you know, Kevin says this all the time, like, we don't have to restore anything, nothing's
16:19missing, like, like, we don't, like, the gifts have been there, the things have been there,
16:23and so many of these, these movements and camps are like, we have to restore this, we
16:28have to restore the five-fold ministry, we have to restore the this and that, and it's
16:32never been gone, it's, it's been fulfilled in Christ, and there are some things that
16:38have always been confusing to me, and as we've been studying, I'm like, okay, that
16:42makes sense, because I was like, I don't understand, you know, in the prayer room at
16:46IHOP KC for Sukkot, they're putting up a tabernacle, they're building one, and I understood
16:53that we had Messianic believers, and I always attributed it to, okay, we're honoring other
16:59people's traditions and history, where they came from as Jewish people, fair enough, Messianic
17:04believers, but increasingly, I'm like, I don't really think that's what it was about,
17:09like, I don't think that all these feasts, and, and it's not to honor and to remember
17:18Israel and honor, you know, that tradition, as much as it's, now we're trying to incorporate
17:24it, and I went to a, an event, years, right when I got to IHOP, no, somebody had asked me
17:31if I knew who Joel Richardson was, I said, no, I've never heard of him, oh, he's speaking,
17:35we have to go, and it was this big, it was called a convocation, well, we just got a
17:39comment from somebody, he's like, have you seen this convocation in Kansas City? I said,
17:43well, that's interesting, I think I actually went to one of those, I don't know, five or
17:47six years ago, and, but it was about, we must use the Hebrew Bible, we must restore the
17:54feasts, we must use the Israel's calendar, and it, it wasn't a group of Messianic believers,
18:00it was a group of Gentiles, who had, were saved, and who were trying to then lay over
18:08what Jesus did with things from the Old Testament, none of the people in this room, I'm sure there
18:13was a handful or whatever, are actually, have Jewish, like, they're historically, genetically,
18:20from, you know, Jewish people, from Israel, I don't understand why this would be, why do
18:24I need a Bible, I don't understand that, and I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, I'm like,
18:29I know, I really don't understand why, I don't get that, I don't understand it, and
18:36now I'm starting to understand it differently, and it's, it's much more alarming than I, I
18:40knew at the time, frankly.
18:43Well, and it goes back to what I said about the history, so a lot of these errors that
18:47you find are from movements that went into error, and here's the problem that I found,
18:53it makes it very difficult when you consider this, most historians and most theologians
18:59who study the movements that went into error, study them at the point of their climax of
19:04error, so here's a movement, they've went totally off the rails, and here's what they
19:09believe, and we disagree with what they believe, but what about the beginning, when they began
19:14to branch off of the movement?
19:15You had men and women working with men and women who stayed in the core of Christianity
19:21who were at one time working hand in hand, but their minds weren't in the same place,
19:26they weren't aligned, and one half, the half that went off into error, they start bringing
19:31in these extra-biblical details to support their theme, and that theme is actually aligned
19:37with, in some ways, the core of Christianity, so the other person or people, they don't really
19:42catch it, that their heads are not aligned, well, over time, this division grows until
19:47they split off into a movement, but at that point in which they split off, they have already
19:52infected the core of Christianity, because their extra-biblical ideas are now not just
19:59for the people who are teaching, but the people who are listening, they've caught on to some
20:02of this stuff, and their heads may go in the wrong place, and they may eventually grow up
20:07and be a pastor or an elder or a teacher, and so they're in the wrong place in the core
20:11of Christianity, and eventually that may spin off into another movement, so you've got
20:15movements spinning off movements, and children of movements, children of the core of Christianity
20:21who will later spin off movements, and that is almost fully untapped as far as studying
20:28in theology, you don't really study that part of it, because quite frankly, it's just simply
20:33too difficult, that's why whenever I'm doing the connections historically, some of the connections
20:39that I have on the website aren't even really destructive, but they're a bridge between
20:43the core of Christianity and the destructive groups, and if you understand all of those
20:48bridges, you can maybe not identify all of the cross-pollination, but you can see how
20:53it might have cross-pollinated.
20:55Yeah, absolutely.
20:56It's interesting, because even the Restoration Movement, John, you know, here's the idea in
21:02the beginning, hey, let's restore the doctrine of the early church, you know, and you look at
21:07that, and you go, okay, well, let's do that, that sounds great, and then as you move along
21:13throughout the years, you know, you see the things that the Christian church has picked
21:19up from the Restoration Movement, but you also see the, you know, the cults that were
21:25formed from it as well, when you start thinking, okay, well, it's my job to restore this, and
21:31if we're going to restore it, then it must be our group that's good, and we're probably
21:37going to start a new group that everybody can join.
21:41Instead of saying, hey, let's get back to biblical Christianity, I, you know, our group is no
21:47different than anybody else's.
21:49We don't have to restore everything.
21:50It's like I've been saying from the very beginning, Jesus died.
21:54He rose, He has provided salvation for us, if we will be reconciled to Him.
22:02He sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
22:05Okay, we're pretty much done.
22:07You know, we don't need to restore anything, and so that's the big thing.
22:13I think this whole idea of, every time I hear the word restoration, it's like bells and whistles
22:19go off, and sirens, and all the things, it's just, it's an immediate trigger to understand
22:26why, why is the church talking about restoration so much, why stuff in, and we've been going
22:32off in a direction into the extreme NAR, into a universal stream, the lady by the name of
22:39Nancy Cohen, and some of her, where they take it, they're kind of ascension teachers, so they
22:48live in the heavenlies, and they go up and down, and all these things.
22:52You can, too.
22:53Yeah, everybody can.
22:54It's just like the Sephirot tree in Kabbalah.
22:58You can ascend it.
22:59And so it just keeps getting more and more extreme, and we keep adding things, saying that
23:06we're restoring Christianity.
23:10We're putting out a video where she calls it kosher Kabbalah.
23:14Yeah.
23:14I mean, it's okay.
23:15That means it's okay.
23:16I guess Christians can practice Kabbalah now.
23:19It's in the church.
23:21So these are the things that I'm seeing, studying and looking at the Restoration Movement, and
23:27I am looking at it historically, but I'm looking at the theologies, and the theologies are making
23:32me crazy, and the history is making me crazy.
23:34Yeah, years ago, I went to Israel with a, there was 12 of us that went to Israel and Jordan
23:43for like five or six weeks.
23:45And I went, it was a teaching group with a Messianic Jewish group, and then my friend and I were
23:50the only Christian Gentiles.
23:52And I was in a taxi, and we were, we were in a lot, a lot, and we were, we
23:58were talking,
23:59and I was with the rabbi and his wife that were leading it.
24:02And so my friend and I were in the back of this, all four of us were crammed in the
24:05back.
24:06And I said to him, I said, you know, I'm on this trip, we're in Israel, we're in the
24:10land.
24:10I said, you know, everybody's trying to, I kind of feel like everybody's talking like,
24:15like this is the, the pinnacle, you know, Christian is great and Jewish is great.
24:20But the, the point of the triangle is, is that the Messianic, and, and I was kind of laughing,
24:26but I was serious.
24:27I said, what do you think?
24:28I will never forget.
24:29And I've, I've talked to him about it since then.
24:31He goes, if God had wanted you to be a Jew, Jew, he goes, I don't allow people to be
24:38converted
24:38in my congregation on either side, because God knew what he was doing.
24:44And he, he made who he made the way he made them.
24:47And, and so when I hear things like restoration, the word that I have a problem with is revival.
24:52It makes me nuts.
24:53I'm like, sometimes things should be dead.
24:55Nothing needs to be revived.
24:57Jesus is still on the throne.
24:59It's just confusing to me.
25:02It's making up things to do.
25:04So we feel important and special.
25:06I think that's true.
25:07And so, oh, I like your Tardis cup, but I, sorry, the whole side.
25:12But I, I think that's the thing that is, is, that's what it feels like to me is like,
25:22we don't feel content allowing Jesus to be the savior.
25:27So we have to figure out ways to help him out because we're bored with our role.
25:32So we're just going to create some stuff to make ourselves look like, you know, it's like
25:37busy work in high school when the teacher had a sub and they just gave you stuff because
25:42they, they didn't teach.
25:43That's what it feels like to me.
25:44I'm like, I, here's the thing.
25:46Jesus already did it.
25:47And my job is to sit at his feet and, and let the Holy spirit make me in his likeness.
25:53And God knows that's going to take my entire life.
25:56And then some probably because God is kind.
25:59So if I die and I'm in, I'm, I'm dead.
26:03If Jesus hasn't returned and it's another hundred years, let's pretend he's still making me into
26:08his likeness.
26:09Like that's how messed up I am.
26:12So it's like that.
26:14I, you know, and so I'm like, I don't need to have some like busy work and some extra homework
26:19sheets to do just so I feel important.
26:21And I got enough going on just looking at the Lord being in his word and, you know,
26:28through his spirit, teach me about his fruit and what is, what he's like.
26:32And that's, that's enough.
26:34That's enough activity for us.
26:36Have you ever wondered how the Pentecostal movement started or how the progression of
26:41modern Pentecostalism transitioned through the latter reign, charismatic and other fringe
26:46movements into the new apostolic reformation?
26:49You can learn this and more on William Branham Historical Research's website,
26:54william-branham.org.
26:56On the books page of the website, you can find the compiled research of John Collins, Charles
27:02Paisley, Stephen Montgomery, John McKinnon, and others with links to the paper, audio, and

27:30On behalf of William Branham Historical Research, we want to thank you for your support.
27:35As both of you know, I've been studying Chuck Smith, the Jesus movement, all of this explosion
27:41into what later became the charismatic movement.
27:45And there's actually multiple reasons why, but one of them actually goes back to the Hebrew
27:49roots thing.
27:50So we mentioned latter reign has these huge intersections with Hebrew roots.
27:55They're trying to say and trying to establish the fact that they believe that the mainstream
28:02churches have grown apostate and that they have gone off into error.
28:05They're too complicated.
28:06We need something simpler.
28:08We need something that goes back to the roots.
28:10And they weren't saying Hebrew roots in latter reign, but there were cross-pollination doctrines
28:16flowing through it.
28:17And so there was this compatibility for anybody who's seeking simplicity in the gospel.
28:24In fact, that was one of the themes that was often spoken in Branhamism is we must have
28:28the gospel in simplicity.
28:30And they would argue that the mainstream churches did not have this.
28:33The interesting part of that, if you take the theological study, they so far overcomplicated
28:39the gospel that nobody knew what it was in the movement.
28:42But then comes along the Jesus movement at its birth, you had all of these young Christians
28:49who they were starting to reject institutional Christianity for looking for something simpler.
28:55They wanted something that was more biblical, more authentic, more like the book of Acts,
29:01more something they could engage with and feel like they were a part of.
29:05And it's not that they were in error.
29:07They were truly seeking something that was going to be more fulfilling.
29:11Well, what more fulfilling than this group of people who tells you, yes, all of these
29:16institutional churches are in error.
29:17Come to us and we will do it.
29:19And that's really where this intersection becomes critical to understand.
29:24Because all of the ideas that some of which came from Hebrew roots, some from restorationism,
29:30British Israelism, Christian identity, all of this starts to invade the minds of the young
29:37people in the Jesus movement.
29:39And when this happens, there's this thing that happens in Pentecostal charismatic movement.
29:44I don't know if you picked up on this one yet, but the speaker often feeds on what the audience
29:49wants to hear.
29:50So when you have this vast audience that is really looking for you to talk more about this
29:55simple thing and how to come out of the churches, et cetera, they're going to start tailoring
29:59their sermons to fit this because it's more appealing.
30:02So there's this cycle that starts happening between the crowd and the speaker.
30:05Well, it spins out of control if you're talking about doctrines that have extra biblical details.
30:12Because now I want to give more details.
30:15The itching ears want to hear more and more and more.
30:18And so while mainstream Christianity kind of stayed grounded with here's the gospel, Jesus
30:23came, he died.
30:24It's very simple.
30:25Anybody can believe it and understand it.
30:27To, yes, they have that, but we need to move beyond this.
30:31We can be part of it.
30:32We can be active because we have all the details of the gospel that the mainstream churches don't
30:38have.
30:38So that intersection just blossomed into error.
30:41Yeah, it's interesting.
30:43Like who raises up who, right?
30:45Is it the itching ears of the people that's raising up teachers?
30:49I guess that's what the Bible says.
30:51So I think that's accurate, completely correct.
30:56I think as, boy, considering Hebrew roots, and again, I haven't looked at the Jesus movement.
31:03I've been looking at it mostly near its inception.
31:08And I've been looking at it where it's in front of us right now.
31:11And especially coming out of IHOPKC and some of these movements.
31:15But is it just the NAR emphasizing Jewish names and phrases and everything Jewish and
31:23the feasts and the shofars and all the things?
31:25Are we just blending it in?
31:27Or is it all Hebrew roots coming into it?
31:29These are the things that I'm grappling with right now.
31:32But when you consider like IHOPKC that we came out of, as I'm looking back at that and
31:39looking at the influence of possibly Hebrew roots and again, Judaism coming in and being
31:47laid on top of the new covenant in the church, David's tabernacle, which is completely not
31:53biblical for today.
31:55It was at the time.
31:56But for today, it's not being embraced by IHOPKC throughout the prayer movements all
32:03over the world, 24-7 prayer, the IPC, International Prayer Connect, all the prayer movements all
32:11over the world, this blend, almost Judaizing, so to speak, understanding the Kabbalistic inroads
32:21into this.
32:22And it's just, it's overwhelming when you look at it.
32:26And again, I'm looking at it today.
32:27I'm looking at it back then.
32:29I haven't looked at it in the middle.
32:31It's just overwhelming to see, you know, in an end time scenario as we're moving forward,
32:37what this could actually do.
32:40It's dangerous beyond dangerous.
32:42And it's a very Western idea, too.
32:44You know, it's the more is better thing.
32:47And we have more to do.
32:50We have more.
32:51And we're going to dig deeper.
32:53And we're going to look, you know, if you pray for two hours, we're going to pray for
32:57four hours.
32:58And we're going to do, you know, I remember, you know, I was talking to Kevin.
33:03I remember Mike Bickle one time, because we've been talking a lot about finishing well, about
33:09running the race in such a way to finish it.
33:12And to win it.
33:14I'm sorry, not just finish it, to win it.
33:15And so I remember Mike Bickle on stage regarding Paul Kane at one point, regarding Bob Jones
33:24at one point, regarding William Branham.
33:27And every, you know, and I remember him talking about William Branham, saying that William Branham
33:32was perhaps the best prophet of the 20th century.
33:37He just didn't finish well.
33:39And this was the thing.
33:40They just didn't finish well.
33:41And I'm like, okay, but that's interesting, because in the Bible, finishing matters.
33:44It's not how we start.
33:46It's what, it's how we finish.
33:47And, and I remember seeing a Chris Reed video where he actually went to William Branham's
33:52house and doing like walking through the house.
33:55And he was giving like a, like a narrative about, okay, we're in this room.
33:59And this is, and I didn't know who he was.
34:01And this is way before you and all the things that I, I kind of started to Google some of
34:05the
34:05people.
34:06And I was like, wait, wait a sec, what are we doing?
34:09And, and, you know, and that's something that we are so committed to in our marriage as
34:16individuals.
34:16And, you know, we'll shut down YouTube and all the ministry tomorrow.
34:20If we go sideways in our own devotion to the Lord, um, and, and running the race in such
34:27a way that we'll win it.
34:28And again, it's not a works-based works driven, you know, that's one of the things that the
34:33Esther March thing, they had this big, they erected this altar on stage to Issachar, right?
34:40Ishtar.
34:40Ishtar.
34:41Not Ishtar.
34:42Ishtar.
34:42And then they all took turns with mallets, destroying, I said, so let me get this straight.
34:48They erected the altar to Ishtar.
34:51They did it.
34:52They put it on the stage and then they took it.
34:54It's just all this stuff that, uh, frankly is offensive to me because it detracts that
35:02it's his story.
35:03It's about him through his spirit, um, you know, reflecting God, the father, the creator
35:09of all, it's not our story.
35:11It's not about me.
35:12It's not my adventure.
35:14Um, and again, even with the Hebrew roots, um, it's still about God.
35:20It's, it's not about returning to anything other than who is God through Jesus.
35:28It's not about recreating Pentecost.
35:31Um, you know, and even Peter says, you know, with Joel's army, I, you know, I was, I remember
35:37at IHOP, I turned to somebody, they were talking about Joel's army.
35:39I'm like, Peter said it's fulfilled today.
35:41He used that passage at Pentecost and says, this is being fulfilled today in your, in
35:48your, um, in your viewing or listening.
35:51And so I'm like, so according to Peter, the pouring out of the, of the spirit and sons and
35:58daughters will prophesy.
35:59Peter said it happened.
36:01So I'm like, I don't understand that the Joel's army and the, the locusts, I'm like, that's
36:07what it is.
36:08It's not positive.
36:09It's not.
36:10No, the locusts army is not positive.
36:12No.
36:13Mm.
36:13I don't know if either of you ever played with electric trains when you were a kid,
36:17but there was this electric track.
36:20And then between the track was this little tiny piece of brass that you would connect
36:25the two pieces together.
36:26So the two electric tracks would, the rails would touch each other.
36:29And if you were missing one of those little pieces, the whole train would just fall off
36:33the track.
36:34It never would work.
36:35What I've learned is each one of these cross pollinated doctrines of extra biblical details
36:41are required to connect the tracks together.
36:44So when Mike Bickle says, William Branham was a good man, but he went into error.
36:48What he's essentially saying is our track requires that little piece that is William Branham
36:52that bridges the latter rain movement to our movement.
36:55And you can go right down the tracks, as far back as you want to go down the tracks, and
37:00find the same kind of thing.
37:02The Jesus movement, for example, so I wasn't, I want to explain what I said a little bit
37:07earlier.
37:08I'm not saying the Jesus movement was filled with Hebrew roots doctrines, by no means.
37:13But Hebrew roots was just one of those little pieces in the track that bound it together.
37:18And if you take that piece out, you, the Jesus movement looks entirely differently.
37:23If you, I've got a lineup somewhere of all the different similarities I've found, but
37:28things like rejection of the mainstream Christianity, that was part of latter rain that made it into
37:35somewhat into the Jesus movement.
37:37But go down the tracks further, you find strong Israel ties.
37:41And that's because of the British Israelism piece that's in the track.
37:45In time's expectations, you can go right down the track and you can find all the way back
37:50to Frank Sanford, they all ran to the rooftops and say, we know the exact second Jesus is
37:54going to return.
37:56Well, that's a piece in the track.
37:57And if you follow that piece out, look at the number of people that have claimed they
38:02know the exact minute, hour, day, et cetera, of when the end is coming.
38:06It's because that's part of that track.
38:08And they will all tell you, yes, that man went astray.
38:11But what they won't say is we're going to remove that piece and replace it with a working
38:16track.
38:16The tracks are broken.
38:18That's really the problem and what I'm trying to say here.
38:20When you examine the tracks and you understand that some of those tracks will just lead off
38:25of cliff, well, do you really want that piece of track in your main body, in your lineup
38:31of track for your train to go down?
38:33I don't.
38:34And so historically, I just started looking at those pieces.
38:38What are those intersection points?
38:40And which ones are valid and which ones are not.
38:43When you take the sum of all of the ones that went off into error, it gets a little bit
38:47scary because you wonder why people continue and they don't go back and clean up the error.
38:53It's like they want to take the end result doctrine and say, we're going to fight tooth
38:59and nail to hold this thing that we have that is the result of all of this track.
39:03We're not going to peel the covers back and see what happened down the track back there.
39:08Yeah.
39:08And I think that happens all the time.
39:10I mean, this is what we were dealing with in the movements.
39:13This is what we were going to individuals far before we ever did YouTube.
39:18And we were saying, why does it look like this?
39:21What is going on?
39:23You know, why do the ends always justify the means?
39:28That's the big thing.
39:30What you were just saying, John, is this whole movement.
39:32Once the movement starts, the movement's more important than the individuals.
39:37We saw that at IHOPKC.
39:39That's why they didn't want to shut it down.
39:40Because it's about keeping the fire on the altar.
39:44But you see this in every particular, whether it's a small church in the community, the entity itself becomes a
39:54thing.
39:55And I continue that.
39:58And I think that's man's desires.
40:02It has nothing to do with the Lord.
40:04It has nothing to do with bringing the gospel.
40:05But we see often that these ends always justify the means and let's just keep this wheel turning no matter
40:15how we do it.
40:17Right.
40:17And it's very interesting, too, because we've seen that from a corporate standpoint and how it looks corporately.
40:23And we would hear things like, well, that would mean that my entire 50 years of ministry was a sham.
40:30And we said, so what?
40:31And I'm like, okay, then, yeah, be bold and say it was a sham and start anew.
40:38Like, what precedent?
40:39How amazing would that be?
40:41But then we would hear about people's personal legacies and leaving a legacy.
40:46And I'm like, when did that?
40:49That's such an American, Western, like, you know.
40:54And I'm like, didn't you die to that?
40:58Aren't you made new in Christ?
40:59Are we new creations?
41:00Am I a bond slave to Jesus?
41:02And what does that really mean?
41:04Because it means that I have given up, you know, if my life is not my own, like, that's what
41:11it says.
41:13Let's play that out.
41:15If I'm supposed to deny myself, take up my cross, there's no legacy in that.
41:20There's nothing about me in that at all.
41:22I've died, and I, my life is not my own.
41:26You know, I even told Kevin, you know, I pray sometimes and ask God to kind of give me clarity
41:30on what's happening.
41:31And a lot of times I walk away feeling like, yeah, it's really none of my business.
41:35And I'm like, wait a second, my own life isn't my business.
41:38And it's like, yeah, my life's not my own anymore.
41:41So, whatever God chooses to do with it, I trust Him.
41:46He's perfectly good, perfectly kind, perfectly holy.
41:49So, He's trustworthy, more so than I am in my flesh.
41:53But it's still that reminder of, like, this is not my life.
41:57It doesn't belong to me.
41:59So, to preserve my legacy for my ministry and my children and my, you know, so I can be a
42:07hero of the faith and have a book, it's so gross.
42:11It's really, really, really not biblical at all.
42:14Well, think about what you just said, because it actually proves the point we're trying to make in this entire
42:18podcast.
42:19It's all about the authority.
42:21When you're talking about what you believe in the gospel, you're putting the authority in the hands of Jesus.
42:26And that's what the core of Christianity did.
42:29And think of the transition of how it got to where it is today.
42:33It may have started out with something simple, and I don't know.
42:36We don't have recorded sermons or statements, but maybe somebody said something like this.
42:40I want to know more about Jesus.
42:43I want to know the Jewish background of Jesus.
42:45Well, that can fit within mainstream Christianity.
42:48So, two people can think they're aligned on this type of thing.
42:52Well, the person who's off in left field may take it a step further.
42:55Well, I really want to celebrate the Jewish biblical festivals because Jesus was a Jew.
43:01Well, that's the point where it starts to get questionable.
43:04Maybe they can still be in unison, maybe not.
43:08But then it goes on further.
43:09The church abandoned those practices, and mainstream Christianity is wrong.
43:13So, now you're seeing a divergence in the tracks, right?
43:16And then it eventually turns out that Christianity became pagan.
43:20We need to reevaluate the structure of Christianity.
43:25And in the Jewish customs, they had the high priest.
43:28We need the same thing, but we are under a new covenant, so we're going to have a high
43:32apostle.
43:33And so, they start to do this kind of thing.
43:35Well, eventually what happens is the authority transitions from Jesus down to the human, and
43:40then the human becomes hell-bent on control and starts controlling the crowd and turns
43:46into a mess that should never have been in the first place.
43:48But it all came back with that little slight divergence from what two people believe and
43:54their heads weren't quite aligned.
43:56Oh, and then it goes so much further, right, John?
43:59So, it starts out with that, like you crash in, and then, you know, as we move forward
44:04in restoration, we see out of the latter rain, then all of a sudden, you talk about authority.
44:09You know, all of a sudden, you're a manifest son.
44:12You're perfected.
44:14We have immortality.
44:16Sometimes people are talking about that.
44:18So, they take it all to the extreme, and I think that's where man just goes with the
44:23whole thing.
44:24That's essentially what we're dealing with today, with all the doctrine in front of us,
44:30that it is a complete mess out there of theologies and thoughts and ideologies mixed with the
44:39political and all the things.
44:41And we try to slice it up and dice it up and present it, but it just seems like as
44:48soon as we do, there's something else that appears that you just go, okay, well, that
44:53was yesterday, and now it's changed.
44:57But, yeah, that progression, and again, I called it a snowball that's picking up things along
45:03the way.
45:03But whatever it is, I think man is just suited for that.
45:06And then the entities that we create are so much more important than us personally.
45:14And like Barb said, I wanted to comment on that.
45:16When we were talking to these leaders, you know, we were coming from the perspective of,
45:22you know what, who cares what your ministry was?
45:27If you're seeing something that's off just personally, aren't you going to want to correct
45:33it on this side of death?
45:35I mean, that's basically what we're saying.
45:38Yeah, because we love that.
45:38They were our friends.
45:39Don't you want to correct it here?
45:41Who cares about reputation?
45:43Who cares about...
45:45Yeah, your followers.
45:46Yeah, whatever that may mean.
45:47If you correct it, maybe people will really appreciate that, and certainly you'll be speaking
45:53the truth.
45:55So, again, I think that's one of those things that we just, we continue to struggle because
46:00these people were important in our story, in our lives, and they're not around anymore.
46:06And more importantly, they're important to millions of some of them, of other people who
46:12are being deceived.
46:14And now, when, you know, at first you go in and think, well, maybe they don't understand,
46:20and maybe it's, you know...
46:22But when you hear somebody go, oh, I understand I'm doing it on purpose, or oh, I understand
46:26and there's too much at stake, then we were kind of going, wait...
46:30Oh, I mean, I took for granted that most of them would be like, oh my goodness.
46:35Wow, let's, let's, what can we do, you know?
46:38But, you know, it's funny, because when you're talking about it, I think about the 650 plus
46:42extra laws that the Pharisees had on top of what was biblical.
46:47And I find that, you know, and there's nothing new under the sun.
46:50People are people, right?
46:51So now the leaders in the Christian expression, they have all these extra things.
46:57Like, you know, instead of fasting for this day, or fasting in your closet, you fast for
47:0240 days.
47:03And then you don't really tell anybody, but you do.
47:05And you have to fast, you know, the bridegroom fast that I have, the first Monday, Tuesday,
47:10Wednesday of the month.
47:11Everybody, you know, and it's the wink wink, it's not really required, but everybody knows
47:15it is.
47:16And, you know, and the more is better.
47:18And so now we have to do this, and if you don't do this, then...
47:21And I'm like, wait, didn't, didn't that already happen?
47:24And shouldn't we have learned from that, that when you're adding things to scripture, I think
47:29there's a model of that, and it didn't go well.
47:31And so, you know, but again, I think that's what we're like in our fallen flesh.
47:37We want to, we want to build.
47:39We want to be in charge.
47:41We want the ultimate authority.
47:43We want it to be about us.
47:44You know, I've asked so many of our former friends, why is your ministry named after yourself?
47:51Like, why is your name on your ministry?
47:53It's not about you.
47:54Oh, it's like, I mean, to me, that's the biggest red flag.
47:58Like, if your name's on your ministry, that should be your starting place, because it's
48:01not about you.
48:03But maybe it is, and that's the problem.
48:06It is the problem, and that's really the final result.
48:08That's the point in which the historians and the theologians who are looking at a false
48:13movement begin to examine.
48:14Once it becomes about the leader, that's where you'll find all the documentation.
48:18My point is, what about whenever the leader was kind of in unison with the main trunk of
48:24Christianity and just started to go astray?
48:26This is where the cross-pollination happens that you really, it's undocumented.
48:30It really is.
48:32And so once it gets to the point where the leader has named the church after himself, I actually
48:38did this exercise when I was leaving Branhamism.
48:40I wanted to know when did it deviate from Christianity to become Branhamite, and it was
48:45in 1945 when he rebranded himself for his second, maybe the second or third stage persona.
48:53He renamed the tabernacle from Pentecostal tabernacle to the Branham tabernacle.
48:58So his name got put on the church back in 1945.
49:01This is before Latter Rain developed, but that was the stage persona that eventually birthed
49:07it, so Latter Rain was literally birthed by a man, and Franklin Hall was joining in this
49:12too, they were birthed by this man who was so full of himself that he named the tabernacle
49:16after himself.
49:18And think of the word tabernacle.
49:20It was the Pentecostal tabernacle before this, so there were ties to British Israelism.
49:24They wanted a tabernacle, and I look back at all of these threads of history.
49:30You've got white supremacy, anti-Semitism, British Israelism, Restorationism.
49:34You can find so many different isms, and the fact that there are that many in the background
49:42of this, to a movement that literally said, and I'm almost quoting verbatim, we want simple
49:48Christianity.
49:48We don't want all these isms.
49:51And yet their whole movement is built on top of them.
49:54You wonder, what in the world happened?
49:56How did people let this grow into this mess?
49:58It's absolutely incredible, especially when you speak of it that way.
50:04Just wanting the simple gospel, that's what we keep going back to, John.
50:10And even in our research and all the things that we're doing, we always want to, even
50:17in some of the videos that we do, which is totally about deception, we do want that simple
50:23message.
50:23But it's Jesus without all of the stuff that everybody wants to put on you.
50:29We don't want people to go into a movement.
50:32We want to pull people out of movements, like literally pull them out of movements, and get
50:37them in the Bible, and get them with the real Jesus.
50:40That's the reason why we're really speaking.
50:43And the problem is, man tries to dump everything on top of that while claiming that this is
50:49simple Christianity, or we're going back to, we're restoring the church back to the
50:55original doctrine, and we're just not doing that.
50:58We just need to, we need to come out of all this noise, get in the Word, spend some time
51:04away from it, and understand who Jesus is.
51:07Yeah, we've been getting emails and comments, and I've been finding myself in the last two
51:11weeks writing people who are like so burnt out, so fried, and they're watching YouTube
51:17all the time, and saying, you know, it seems like to me that maybe we, you know, maybe
51:24you need to take a break.
51:25Maybe, you know, and I wrote, I wrote somebody recently, and I just said, here you go, just
51:29so you know, we're not trying to build a ministry or a legacy for us.
51:34So I wrote somebody yesterday, yeah, if you're looking to Kevin and I, we are imperfect people
51:41who are going to let you down.
51:42And we're getting it wrong all the time, and by God's grace, sometimes we get it right.
51:47And the only reason we're doing videos is because we feel like we want to share our
51:51journey.
51:52We're not experts in anything, and we're not trying to be.
51:56We don't promote any denomination or any ism.
52:00You know, we were even trying to write our what we believe on our website, and, you know,
52:04Kevin's like, he's like, I think we need to write what we don't believe, too.
52:08And I'm like, yeah, what we believe and what we don't.
52:10And we're not dispensationalists, but we're not, you know, we're not trying to be in any
52:17man-made system, because we just want to follow the Lord.
52:23And we, you know, and so I've been writing to people like, ah, you just need to sit with
52:27the Lord.
52:28Get back in the Word yourself.
52:30We're not the authority.
52:31It's not up to us to tell you what Jesus is like.
52:35He is enough, and he can teach you himself.
52:38And I wrote somebody yesterday, I said, you know, as soon as God tells us this YouTube
52:42channel's done, we're done.
52:44Like, it's not about following.
52:46We don't care.
52:47Like, it's, it's, we hope that this helps some people more than it hurts them.
52:52We hope that people maybe understand Jesus better and can find him easier and maybe know
53:00some things to avoid that we fell into and, uh, had to climb out of.
53:05That's our best, you know, and, and again, we're going to get that wrong and, uh, all the
53:10time, but we're, we're committed to realigning our, our eyes on Jesus, refocusing on him and
53:19picking ourselves back up through his grace and mercy and, and, and doing another day.
53:24You know, that's it.
53:26That's all we got.
53:27That's why I like what you guys do so much, because in many ways, it's similar to me.
53:32I like to connect puzzle pieces and I've got one of these brains that I just want to put
53:36the puzzle together.
53:37And so I have created a platform where people can share their puzzle pieces with me and
53:41everybody else who's interested.
53:42So it's a, it's a crazy fascinating puzzle.
53:46I'll just say it's like that.
53:47Where, where can people find you on the internet?
