John and Chino examine how modern deliverance teachings expanded beyond biblical categories into broad explanations for personality, trauma, illness, and everyday human struggles. They discuss Hobart Freeman's teachings on discernment, psychology, counseling, and spiritual warfare while exploring how these ideas influenced later charismatic movements and shaped the experiences of many followers.

The discussion traces historical connections between earlier Pentecostal and Latter Rain influences, examines how doctrines evolved through later ministries, and considers the importance of careful biblical interpretation alongside appropriate professional expertise. The episode concludes by comparing these teachings with the New Testament's emphasis on Christian growth, spiritual maturity, and faithful study of Scripture.

00:00:31Hello, and welcome to another episode of the William Branham Historical Research Podcast.
00:00:35I'm your host, John Collins, the author and founder of William Branham Historical Research
00:00:40at william-branham.org, and with me I have my co-host, minister, and friend, Cheno Ross,
00:00:45pastor and the voice of the understanding scripture and truth by Cheno D. Ross YouTube
00:00:49channel.
00:00:51Cheno, it's good to be back and to kind of wrap things up on deliverance.
00:00:55This episode is going to tie together with a lot of different themes that I've had
00:00:59with some other co-hosts recently.
00:01:02I don't know in the order of the schedule if this comes out before or after, but I had
00:01:06a whole episode talking about narcissistic personality disorder recently with another co-host, and
00:01:12actually multiple co-hosts.
00:01:14And it seems like there is a connection between a personality disorder and what is enabling
00:01:23a cult leader to do what they do.
00:01:24And the sad part about this is the people who are caught in the middle, meaning the ones
00:01:30who are in the pews, they have no idea that most of what they see is not really spiritual.
00:01:35It's just that this guy's got a mental health issue going on, and they can't distinguish
00:01:41between the two because, we've talked about this before, they have twisted the meaning of
00:01:47discernment in these movements.
00:01:48So, discernment isn't actually discerning the spirits of good and evil, as the Bible
00:01:54is talking about.
00:01:55It's this health and wealth thing that they tried to create.
00:01:57So, if people actually were sitting in their pews and had discernment, they would say,
00:02:01oh, I know why that guy's acting like that.
00:02:04He's crazy.
00:02:07You know, we spent the last time, John, looking at some of what Hobart has said in this ridiculous
00:02:14little track called Occult, Oppression, and Bondage, How to Be Set Free.
00:02:19Just, it was really weird.
00:02:21And his book entitled Angels of Light, Honest Answers to End Confusion.
00:02:29And the book is anything but that.
00:02:31Yeah, I think the book, if you hadn't read it, if you would sit down to read it and you
00:02:35were reading it in an effort to understand deliverance, you'd be more confused by the
00:02:42time you got through because the way he lists all of these things, just any kind of anything
00:02:50that you've ever done besides fold your hands and cross your legs and sit in a corner for
00:02:57the rest of your life, anything you've ever done probably has some kind of, as he would
00:03:01pronounce it, occult, some kind of occult connection.
00:03:06And therefore, you would have opened a door, whether innocently or otherwise, you would
00:03:11have opened a door and you're probably experiencing problems in your life because of something that
00:03:18you have done somewhere in your life.
00:03:20And we ran down the list of, you know, fortune tellers and visiting a religious cult and even
00:03:28experiencing, you know, a traumatic occurrence in your life.
00:03:33He was really big on things like that, that that would open a door to some type of demon
00:03:39that would come into you and you would have to have deliverance from that later in your life.
00:03:45I can tell you something else that I've often heard him say.
00:03:48He said, without exception, if you are adopted, you have to go through occult deliverance for
00:03:58being adopted simply because you're, you did, your parents rejected you.
00:04:03So you can tell where he's going to go with his psycho babble, psychoanalysis with that.
00:04:09You're, you've got these latent insecurity issues in your life.
00:04:14And I'm not saying that a person wouldn't have things like that, but I don't think you
00:04:19can call it demon possession or a person needing a deliverance session.
00:04:23Maybe they need, and they probably do some really healthy counseling and some really, you
00:04:31know, healthy Bible study, because who wants to think that neither one of my parents wanted
00:04:37me and I was put up for adoption.
00:04:39So anyone in that church, anyone under Hobart Freeman, the sound of his voice who had been
00:04:44adopted knew, you know, I've got demons.
00:04:47I mean, you're already pigeonholed.
00:04:49You're already pigeonholed as a person who has demons because of something you had no say
00:04:55so over.
00:04:56And that was it that your parents did not want you put you up for an, for in an adoption
00:05:02agency and hopefully a loving couple adopted you.
00:05:06So just about every part, this is the way Hobart would have seen it and said it, of your
00:05:15personality can be a demon.
00:05:19This is why I don't think any of this could be called honest answers to end the confusion.
00:05:24I think it just creates more confusion, any part of your personality, your, your traits,
00:05:31what gets you up, what brings you down, what motivates you, what makes you sad, um, what
00:05:37inspires you, your, uh, inclinations, your quirks, you know, all of the things that we would
00:05:47say are what make you, you, anything that all of these things that make up your personality.
00:05:55Some I'm sure would come from what we call nature and some would come from nurture.
00:06:01That's the age old debate in social sciences and in education and psychology, how much comes
00:06:09from nature.
00:06:09That is it's inherited.
00:06:11It's in your genetic makeup.
00:06:13And we know that a lot comes from that.
00:06:17Our eye color, our hair color, our height, um, and not just physical dispositions, but
00:06:23psychological things are inherited versus how much comes from nurture.
00:06:29And that is your upbringing, because depending on the environment, the home setting in which
00:06:36we were all raised, those types of scenarios have profound influences on us for the rest of
00:06:44our life.
00:06:44So you could be anywhere from say, um, left.
00:06:52If you're anywhere left, Hobart would say of normal or anything right of normal, then you
00:07:01probably have a demon, but, but what is normal?
00:07:03What in the world is normal?
00:07:06I would say this.
00:07:07I know you're not normal.
00:07:09You're mean to me.
00:07:11Almost every time we have a Monday morning podcast, you know, we do this little, um, video
00:07:19and audio sound check to make sure everything is good.
00:07:23And, and I'll, and I, and here I am trying to be nice, happy on a Monday morning.
00:07:28And I say, John, does everything look good?
00:07:31And you go, you know, everything looks good except your face.
00:07:36I mean, you're just mean, you're just plain mean.
00:07:39So, you know, you're not normal.
00:07:41I'm not normal because I think that's hilarious.
00:07:44That doesn't offend me at all.
00:07:45So there's no way I can be normal.
00:07:47You're definitely not normal.
00:07:49So what is normal?
00:07:50You know, only Hobart Freeman, I think was normal and all of the rest of us would definitely
00:07:56be abnormal.
00:07:58Actually, the way that I put it to you to begin with is I was so glad when you joined
00:08:02the podcast
00:08:02because before you joined, I was the ugliest man on YouTube.
00:08:08So anyway, all of that aside, I'm glad that you went to the nature versus nurture because
00:08:14I've actually been wanting to do a podcast, a whole podcast on this.
00:08:18I'm not a psychologist, so I'm waiting for the right co-host to come on who can talk through
00:08:23it with some expertise.
00:08:26But there is a chain of events that happened that is due to exactly that, that led to a
00:08:34whole slew of weird doctrines.
00:08:36In fact, what you're talking about there with the adopted child, if you really understand
00:08:41where that came from, William Branham was bringing into the revival movement, the
00:08:48idea that your bloodlines really mattered as far as your Christianity and your salvation.
00:08:53People didn't catch on that it was a racist idea and that all of that ideology really
00:08:58came from his mentor, who was the head of the Klan.
00:09:00They assumed that he was talking in non-racist terms, but those themes made it in.
00:09:06One of the other themes that made it in, he had really, really strong denigrating doctrines
00:09:12against women.
00:09:13And he openly admitted later in his life that he really resented his father because his father
00:09:21was having orgies in Jeffersonville with all of the bigwigs and the mob.
00:09:25He openly talks about this.
00:09:27And so a psychologist would hear this and think, oh, well, his disposition against women is directly
00:09:33related to his connection with his father that never was established.
00:09:39And they would go off into explaining why I'm not a psychologist, so I'm not going to go
00:09:43there.
00:09:43But what people don't understand is it actually has an impact on the bedrock of foundation that
00:09:49was laid in Latter Rain.
00:09:51And then what happened is all of these people built on top of that bedrock, not knowing that
00:09:56many of those things were either anti-Semitic because of the Christian identity or racist because
00:10:02of the Klan or just simply human problems because he had psychological issues, and not to even
00:10:12mention the fact that he himself admitted he went mentally insane a few times.
00:10:17So if you have insanity and racism and all of these things combining to create a bedrock
00:10:21of doctrine, then you have people who are trying to interpret that, but not through those terms.
00:10:27In other words, this was our spiritual leader, he created a bedrock of spiritual foundation,
00:10:33and let's build on it pretending that it came from God and not look backwards at what all
00:10:38past created it.
00:10:40The nature versus nurture played a huge impact in this, and nobody really recognized it.
00:10:46Well, my degree in undergraduate was in secondary education, and that was years ago.
00:10:53So you have to take a lot of child and adolescent psychology classes and all that kind of stuff.
00:11:00And I would not be the one to do the podcast with you on that because you need a professional.
00:11:06Hobart always pawned himself off as a pro, but he pawned himself off as a pro in any area
00:11:12that he talked about.
00:11:13As soon as he brought something up, he was an expert on it.
00:11:16I haven't heard a lot of William Branham's stuff.
00:11:19I've only heard a few of his tapes, so I would never have known how much, if any, Hobart
00:11:26picked up from Branham on this type of stuff.
00:11:30You know, I know certain doctrinal things, the manifested suns, latter rain, all of this.
00:11:37I know he got that from Branham.
00:11:39This other stuff, you know, I wouldn't know.
00:11:42I wouldn't be aware, but he just liked to talk about psychological stuff as it relates
00:11:49to demons and the need for deliverance so much.
00:11:55And as I've said, pawned himself off as some type of expert, which he wasn't.
00:12:03He didn't have any formal training.
00:12:05He had training in, you know, Bible studies and Old Testament and Hebrew and, you know,
00:12:11biblical geography and, you know, a lot of great, wonderful stuff, but it doesn't have
00:12:16anything to do with psychology or psychiatry, which are two huge fields.
00:12:21I don't know that the experts, I don't think the experts would ever use the word normal,
00:12:26that if, you know, you're this direction from normal or that direction from normal, because
00:12:32as I said earlier, you know, what is normal, they probably would use a term like, you know,
00:12:36healthy.
00:12:36And there are definitely, you know, people that are more healthy mentally and psychologically
00:12:42than other people.
00:12:44And maybe it's because of some kind of demonic influence, but maybe not, too.
00:12:50That's the whole thing.
00:12:51And apart from, you know, what, some supernatural insight, you as a Christian minister, Dr.
00:12:59Freeman and the little minions that came under him aren't going to know, you know, whether
00:13:05that is demonic.
00:13:07For Hobart, it was easier just to assume that pretty much everything was.
00:13:11So you don't need the gift of discerning his spirits.
00:13:14You just know if anybody's different than from me, from the way I see things, they're
00:13:19not normal.
00:13:20And so they probably have demonic problems.
00:13:23So, you know, even your posture, John, he would talk about this.
00:13:27You know, there are people that do this, like I'm sitting up straight.
00:13:31But he would say, now, if you sit up ramrod straight, that is probably a spirit.
00:13:36But then if you just slouch, guess what?
00:13:40That's probably a spirit, too.
00:13:43So literally everything could have been a spirit.
00:13:48So if everything could have been a spirit, when do you know when it is and when it isn't?
00:13:54I mean, he would just roll the dice and say, well, since everything probably could be, everything
00:13:59probably is.
00:14:00So if you have a female who wants to, you know, ride horses, well, that's a masculine thing.
00:14:08So she is probably a masculinized female.
00:14:12Or if you have a boy who doesn't want to get involved in a bare knuckle fist fight, he's
00:14:18probably a feminized male.
00:14:19And he talked about that all the time.
00:14:23If you saw a woman doing any kind of thing that he would say, well, that is more masculine.
00:14:31You know, there are men who love to cook.
00:14:35I'm not one of them.
00:14:37But there are male chefs.
00:14:39So what is that?
00:14:40A feminized male?
00:14:41Some of the best known chefs in the world are men.
00:14:45You know, they're a chef, not a chefess.
00:14:48They're a male who likes to be in the kitchen, chopping food and cooking.
00:14:53And they're really good at it.
00:14:55And we're really thankful for them.
00:14:56So we can go to their restaurant and eat.
00:14:59And so you've got a woman who wants to go and ride horses.
00:15:03Well, that's what my wife spent many of the early years of her life doing.
00:15:07She loved horses.
00:15:08So she had horses and, you know, she has to saddle the horse and clean the horse and muck
00:15:14the stalls and break the ice on the pond down at the bottom of the hill in the middle of
00:15:20the wintertime.
00:15:20So the horses had something to drink.
00:15:22And so obviously she's always in jeans, which that would have been disallowed.
00:15:27I guess if you want to wear a dress and go down there and break the ice in January, that
00:15:32would be OK, but, you know, you just you just weren't allowed to do things that were not
00:15:38normal, quote unquote.
00:15:41So speaking of men and women, let's jump on to this little brief side topic, John, see
00:15:47if you have ever heard of this.
00:15:49Maybe you have.
00:15:50Maybe you haven't know anything about it.
00:15:52Um, and and that has to do with the two phrases incubi and succubi.
00:16:00Do you do you know what those are?
00:16:03This is, um, wait until you hear what they are.
00:16:07You probably do know what they are.
00:16:08You just don't know the technical terms.
00:16:10Um, people out there in the audience, there are probably a few people have heard of the
00:16:14technical terms and other people probably haven't.
00:16:16But here goes Hobart.
00:16:18By the way, an incubi is a male sexual predator demon and the succubi is the female version.
00:16:28So the male demon rapes, uh, human women and the female demon, the succubi rapes, um, male
00:16:38humans.
00:16:39You know, Hobart thought he was an expert on everything.
00:16:41Where, where would you even, where would you even come up with things like this?
00:16:46And why would you even care?
00:16:48And why would you have sermons on this when you've got the whole Bible from, you know,
00:16:54Genesis to revelation to teach on the church?
00:16:58John at in Indiana should have fired him.
00:17:02They should have fired him as the pastor, but you know, he had set that church up in such
00:17:08a way.
00:17:08He was all big on, yeah, we're not a democracy.
00:17:12We are a theocracy.
00:17:14We are governed by Jesus.
00:17:16We are a theocracy.
00:17:17We are not like all those denominational churches out there that operate on democratic principles.
00:17:25And that, you know, that all sound, his little book, charismatic body ministry is all into
00:17:31that.
00:17:32The church is a theocracy under its head.
00:17:35And Jesus Christ, that all sounds really great and wonderful, but where is Jesus?
00:17:43He's in heaven.
00:17:44Where is God?
00:17:45He's in heaven.
00:17:46So he's going to rule, govern his church through people.
00:17:51Well, if you set it up like Hobart and Branham was probably the same way, they don't want
00:17:56any boards.
00:17:57They don't want anyone to have any say so.
00:17:59So, no, it's not a democracy.
00:18:01No, it's not a theocracy.
00:18:04It's a totalitarian governmental regime.
00:18:08You know, it's an absolute dictatorship is what it is.
00:18:12They should have fired him when he began talking about things like this.
00:18:17So if you listen to his material, you can also read about it in Angels of Light book,
00:18:24The Incubi and Succubi.
00:18:26Okay, Hobart, he just fashioned himself as this deliverance minister who had had all kinds
00:18:36of experience in counseling.
00:18:38And so if you ever wanted to challenge what he had to say about Incubi and Succubi, if
00:18:47you ever wanted to poo-poo that, he would try to embarrass you by saying, well, you, brother,
00:18:54obviously haven't counseled all of the men and women that I have, because in my counseling
00:19:00sessions, this is a real thing.
00:19:02And I have really come across this and I, I'm getting ahead of myself.
00:19:07I haven't even explained it.
00:19:08So, so the, so he would have these counseling sessions with women who would tell him that
00:19:16at night they had been attacked physically, sexually in their, in the privacy of their
00:19:25bed and bedroom by these grotesque forms, these evil spirits, which went by, I think it's
00:19:35the Latin term Incubi and Succubi.
00:19:37And you can study that in back in medieval Roman Catholic history is where some of this
00:19:42stuff comes from, but that was a demon spirit and less frequently, I guess he would counsel
00:19:51men who had been attacked by a succubi, which would be the female counterpart of it.
00:20:00And, and if you challenge, you know, the, the, the bulk of his defense would be, well, look,
00:20:08brother, you know, you can't deny the facts and the facts are these people have come to
00:20:13me.
00:20:13And if you tried to press on that hit, then they always go to Genesis six.
00:20:17They'd always go to Genesis six and say, remember there, the sons of God, they came down.
00:20:23Those are fallen angels and demons and they raped women on the earth.
00:20:28And then they produced all of these giants.
00:20:31And I realized there are a lot of various interpretations of Genesis six, but what I just
00:20:37described it to say is not at all what it says.
00:20:41People need to go back and read Genesis six.
00:20:44It's not talking about sexual assault, whoever you want to make the sons of God.
00:20:50That's the debate.
00:20:51Who are the sons of God?
00:20:52Who are the daughters of men, whoever you want to make them.
00:20:56They were looking for wives and they married them.
00:20:59We're talking about a ceremony at the little chapel down by the Euphrates or Tigris river river.
00:21:06These were weddings.
00:21:07These were marriage ceremonies, whoever you want to make the sons of men.
00:21:11So are you telling me that these demons came down and put on a tuxedo and went through a wedding
00:21:21ceremony and married these women and had children and went to work and then would come home after
00:21:27the wives had baked supper for them and a big loaf of cheese and olive bread.
00:21:31Is that what's going on?
00:21:33What Genesis six said is they married them.
00:21:37So you cannot pull that.
00:21:40What happens, John, is as we've often seen, these ministers, nut jobs with a screw loose,
00:21:47like Hobart, Edward Freeman, have this idea about incubi and succubi.
00:21:52And then, then and only then, they go to the Bible and try to find some passage to justify
00:21:58it or to prove it.
00:22:00And so when, when they found Genesis six, and it is a very, a very odd, unusual passage, when
00:22:08they find that they go, there you go.
00:22:10There's our proof that demons, which are spirits, you're saying, and we don't, we know what's
00:22:18involved in sexual assault.
00:22:21Aren't there bodily parts that have to be involved in order for that to happen without being any
00:22:28more explicit than that?
00:22:31And so these demons, well, of course they say, well, the demons took on human form, took on
00:22:37human genitalia.
00:22:40They also did that.
00:22:41I mean, do you really, do you really believe that happened?
00:22:45Do you understand the consequences and the fallout of what you're saying?
00:22:51And they somehow were able then to reproduce a demon with a female and actually have children.
00:23:00As I said, that rape is not under consideration in Genesis six, but weddings and marriages
00:23:07are.
00:23:08So I'm going to leave that right there.
00:23:11I'm so glad you went there because in a roundabout way, you actually proved my point without even
00:23:16knowing you proved my point, which proves the other point that I wanted to make.
00:23:20There are a lot of people, even scholars, who don't really catch it because they don't
00:23:26have the full grasp of the history of the theology that Branham was laying down.
00:23:32So sons of God saw the daughters of man, that they were fair, et cetera.
00:23:37There are, like you said, a lot of ways to interpret that.
00:23:40And one of the ways which is fascinating to entertain the fantasy of it is the demigods
00:23:47thing, because that's what the whole ancient world believed.
00:23:50I don't personally read it that way, but I also don't read it the way of the bedrock of
00:23:55theology that was created.
00:23:57So Branham created this notion, which evolved through a cross-pollination of ideas called
00:24:05the manifested sons of God.
00:24:07I don't believe it originated with Branham.
00:24:09I also don't believe it originated with the people they credit for it on YouTube, on
00:24:13Wikipedia, but it was a cross-pollination of ideas.
00:24:17What Branham did was he took it a step further, and he tried to claim that whenever a supernatural
00:24:24being came down to Earth, no matter what type of supernatural being it is, it comes down
00:24:30in the form of a man.
00:24:31And he would give examples like the angel meeting Abraham.
00:24:35And he would say, that was a manifested son of God, but it was an angel.
00:24:39And just weird, weird leaps of logic.
00:24:43What he was trying to do was to diminish the power of the actual supernatural mentioned in
00:24:48the Bible so that he could elevate the power of the man behind the microphone, which was
00:24:54himself.
00:24:54And in doing this, he was creating a new mythology that was neither biblical nor ancient weirdness,
00:25:03like gods and demigods.
00:25:05It was his own type of mythology.
00:25:07And when people came and tried to study this and interpret it, yes, Hobart Freeman probably
00:25:12didn't get that directly from Branham.
00:25:14But think of the cross-pollination that happened after Branham did this.
00:25:18Everybody that you see in these old photographs of the Voice of Healing magazine who are attending
00:25:22their conventions, they picked up on it.
00:25:25They started teaching their variations on it, other variations upon those.
00:25:29And it just continued into this hodgepodge of mythology that does not really match the
00:25:34Bible at all.
00:25:36Hobart Freeman picked up on the variations that came after Branham.
00:25:40So that bedrock of false doctrine was laid, and then it evolved, and then Hobart Freeman
00:25:45picked it up.
00:25:47Have you ever wondered how the Pentecostal movement started, or how the progression of
00:25:51modern Pentecostalism transitioned through the latter reign, charismatic, and other fringe
00:25:57movements into the New Apostolic Reformation?

00:26:45When I was literally 17 years old, you know, I'd never heard of Incubi and Succubi.
00:26:52And so, you know, when you hear stuff like that, you think you've been initiated into, you know,
00:27:00you know, a deeper truth that you could have never known otherwise.
00:27:03And that's, I think that's the drawl.
00:27:06That was part of the drawl of Dr.
00:27:08Freeman.
00:27:09I think it's part of the drawl of any of the people that are, if I can say, weird out
00:27:14there,
00:27:15just maybe not healthy, different than the mainstream.
00:27:19If you can have some gimmick or some trick, it's not anything different than a snake oil salesman.
00:27:27And when, back in the day, you had doctors who were very limited in their understanding
00:27:32and their instruments that they had.
00:27:35They could only do so much.
00:27:37But then you have a snake oil salesman, and he could do better than the doctors
00:27:42because he's got, you know, magic potions and spells and, you know, hexes and roots and things like that.
00:27:49And it seems like these ministers are so similar, they're not happy at all, and they're not content
00:27:56with a literal, exegetical, expositional study of the Bible.
00:28:02For some reason, it just seems to be boring to them, and I don't know why.
00:28:06I think the Bible is fascinating.
00:28:08It is God's Word, and we've got so much that we don't know about it and so much personally
00:28:15that we haven't had time to study because we're limited in our time and number of years
00:28:21that we're even here on the earth.
00:28:23To ever think that it's boring or I've got to find something, I don't know,
00:28:28maybe it's just a technique or tactic to create a ministry, create a following.
00:28:35Why people would be interested in that, I don't know.
00:28:38It's just not my personality.
00:28:40I think if you start creating a ministry that way, then you have to continue to do that.
00:28:47You've got to continue to come up with something new, something different, because people are
00:28:54not going to be happy because you've trained them not to be happy.
00:28:58Just studying the text of Scripture as it's written.
00:29:01We're in a study in my own life and ministry of the book of Revelation.
00:29:07And, John, we've been in it for two and a half years, and we are on chapter 11 and verse
00:29:153.
00:29:16And there's 22 chapters in the book.
00:29:18We're on chapter 11 and verse 3, and we've been doing it every week for two and a half years
00:29:23because it's interesting.
00:29:25And we're not leaving the text.
00:29:27We're not using the text to then see if we can find something really weird to talk about.
00:29:32We're just trying to understand what was the Apostle John seeing in these visions when
00:29:40he is recording them.
00:29:41What does he mean?
00:29:42What does God, the Holy Spirit, behind him mean?
00:29:46You know, and that is once a week in the book of Revelation for two and a half years.
00:29:53And, you know, think of all, that's just one of 66 books of the Bible.
00:29:57You would never get through with all of it.
00:29:59But as I have said, I think Hobart was fascinated himself with gimmicks and tricks.
00:30:09It wasn't really that way in the seminary.
00:30:11But when he got hooked up with Gordon Lindsay and Kenneth Hagen, I mean, Hagen's telling stories
00:30:18of going to hell and coming back.
00:30:20And we know, according to the Bible, there's a great goal fixed.
00:30:25And once you get to hell, you're not coming back.
00:30:27Heck, that's just not the way things work.
00:30:30But how is it that a minister of the gospel, such as Kenneth E. Hagen, is able to get away
00:30:38with telling stories like that?
00:30:39He should have been fired, too.
00:30:41All of these people should be fired from their job when they are twisting and perverting the
00:30:47Bible like that.
00:30:48But anyway, as Hobart went on by the early 1980s, he had taught so much on demons and deliverance,
00:30:57but he began this new series that his followers will well remember because it was devastating
00:31:04to the congregation.
00:31:07It is here on his tape list entitled, Deeper Deliverance and Discernment.
00:31:14You know, deliverance isn't enough.
00:31:17Discernment's not enough.
00:31:18This is deeper deliverance and discernment.
00:31:22As soon as I hear deeper something, I go, I think it's going to be deeper than the Bible.
00:31:28You know, the Bible has what it has.
00:31:30And if you've got something deeper, it's probably too deep for me.
00:31:33And I remember listening to the very, and people can go online.
00:31:38You can find all of these deeper deliverance and discernment messages.
00:31:43The very beginning of the first one, Hobart introduces it along this line.
00:31:48The Lord has been showing me some things that I didn't even know about deeper deliverance
00:31:54and discernment.
00:31:55And I'm going to be bringing that forth to the congregation.
00:31:58So he's admitting he didn't even know this.
00:32:02The draw in admitting that you didn't know it is people assume that God has just given
00:32:09you something fresh off the press of heaven.
00:32:12So you have a hotline to heaven, and this is new information.
00:32:18And so you have titles of things that read like this.
00:32:23Oh, this was devastating, John, to the people.
00:32:26Discerning and Dealing with Multiple Personalities, Parts 1 and 2, where Hobart thought he could
00:32:36discern and teach you how to discern between multiple personalities.
00:32:42You and I said earlier in this podcast, John, there's an ongoing debate, and it will continue
00:32:49until Jesus returns, of how much in each of us is nature and how much is nurture.
00:32:55And there's no way for any human being to figure that out.
00:32:59We human beings are a complex layer of countless experiences and observations from birth until
00:33:11now, as well as everything packed within that DNA, that deoxyribonucleic acid, that genetic code in all of us.
00:33:24There is no way that any human being can untangle even the beginning of all of those strands and figure
00:33:32out what has come from nature and what has come from nurture.
00:33:36And then, on top of that, you've got to figure out what has come from demonic influence.
00:33:41I've got to find out where these demons are in my life.
00:33:45You know, he pawned himself off as some little psychiatrist, psychologist, to be able to teach the people how to
00:33:54discern between multiple personalities.
00:33:58I mean, have you ever seen any of the Hannibal Lecter movies?
00:34:03This whole business of psychology and psychiatry that I have no training in whatsoever is vast and difficult.
00:34:12And so, those of us who have no training, in other words, who are no good at it because we
00:34:20don't know what we're talking about, we should stay out of that field.
00:34:24We should stay with the things where we have training, professional education, professional experience.
00:34:31That's where we should stay, and we should stay out of these other areas.
00:34:35But Hobart, no, he thought he was an expert on everything.
00:34:39Ham radios, just because he liked them, he would talk about complex electrical code like he was an electrical theory,
00:34:47like he was something.
00:34:49And I actually have had people who have PhDs in electrical engineering who also, I can think of one man
00:34:58in particular, who had a PhD in electrical theory and engineering, who also was a Freeman follower earlier in his
00:35:06life.
00:35:07When we had our conversations, this would have been back in the late 1980s, because I knew his professional training,
00:35:15and I don't know anything about electrical theory, so I don't know whether Hobart's on or off.
00:35:20But I knew he knew, and I said, let me ask you a question.
00:35:23You know, I know this is your profession, and you've heard Hobart throw out his little things about electronics and
00:35:30ham radio.
00:35:31And you know what he told me?
00:35:33He said, the guy didn't have a clue what he was talking about.
00:35:36And I said, you know, that's what I assumed.
00:35:39He always pawned himself off as some kind of expert, when really he didn't have any training in that area
00:35:45at all.
00:35:45So, multiple personalities.
00:35:49The devices of Satan and the depth of Satan.
00:35:53He gets that out of, you know, Revelation 2 and 3.
00:35:57Discerning dreams.
00:35:58You know, there's, you can pay $995 for a six-week class today and go to some prophetic school, and
00:36:07they'll teach you how to interpret or discern dreams.
00:36:10And how about this one, John?
00:36:12The seven-headed serpent closing open doors to medical science.
00:36:19The seven-headed serpent.
00:36:20You know, the serpent on the pole, that was huge.
00:36:23He loved to talk about that.
00:36:25He loved to talk about, just loved to talk against medical science.
00:36:30It was on one of these messages.
00:36:33I believe it was tape 261, number 8, called Closing Open Doors.
00:36:41There's that open doors again.
00:36:42He loved the phrase open doors.
00:36:44You've opened doors to demons.
00:36:46I believe it was on Closing Open Doors is the first time that he started saying that MD, for medical
00:36:53doctor, stood for medical deity.
00:36:55And they just, they got a lot of mileage out of medical deities.
00:36:59And so, in this series, I'll make a few more comments, and I'll be quiet here, John.
00:37:06In this series that I said just had a devastatingly negative effect on the congregation, because he was talking about
00:37:16multiple person, all this crazy stuff that you just should not be talking about as a Christian minister.
00:37:23And I'm not saying people don't, there aren't people out there that have multiple personalities.
00:37:28I'm not denying that.
00:37:29I'm just saying that's not your field.
00:37:32It's not my field.
00:37:33And you just need to teach scripture.
00:37:36You need to teach the Bible and let people work out their own issues through Bible study, prayer, and through
00:37:46consulting people who are professionals in those areas instead of the minister.
00:37:51But anyway, here's where he really hit his stride.
00:37:54He placed the people in his church just in the worst possible bondage, because it was during this series that
00:38:03he began to make the connections for them and in their minds between perhaps why they have not received the
00:38:13manifestation of their healing.
00:38:14Maybe this is why you can't see any better, and you have claimed healing, and you still can't drive.
00:38:23Maybe this is why you went back on your medication.
00:38:28This is why you have not experienced answers to all of your prayers, because there are open demonic doors.
00:38:40And the open demonic doors, perhaps, this was new for Faith Assembly, perhaps are connected to medicines and vaccinations and
00:38:52things that happened to you when you were very, very young.
00:38:55So consequently, you have people at Faith Assembly contacting parents whom they had already shunned because they're not a part
00:39:06of the church here now.
00:39:08Oh, no, Mom, I do need to talk to you after all, even though I have shunned you because you
00:39:13celebrate Christmas and you wear pants and you do things that are ungodly.
00:39:17Now, Mom and Dad, I need you guys after all, because I need my vaccination record from when I was
00:39:25a child.
00:39:25I need to know what kinds of medicines you had me on when I was two years old and five
00:39:33years old and seven years old, because Dr. Freeman said that demons, remember these crazy writings of his, demons are
00:39:46behind everything.
00:39:47And the names of drugs aren't just the name that some pharmacy student came up with.
00:39:56They're actually the names of ancient demons.
00:40:00And until the way you go through deliverance, according to Hobart, is you have to name the demons by name.
00:40:08You can't just do any whole hog general thing like be gone, get thee behind me, Satan.
00:40:14You have to name these demons and then take yourself through deliverance for them and then be free.
00:40:24So you can just imagine, John, you've got these these young people who have not been healed, who have not
00:40:32experienced divine prosperity, who have not had answers to their prayers like Hobart taught.
00:40:38You can have and now they're being thrown this lifeline here is the secret here is why it hasn't happened.
00:40:48We're back to the subject of demons and deliverance.
00:40:51You've got to take yourself through deliverance.
00:40:53And so, you know, it was in the first place in their minds, a godsend, because now I can receive
00:41:01the answers to my prayers.
00:41:02And so they're dialing up mom and dad, finding out the names of the medicines and the vaccinations and then
00:41:09taking themselves through deliverance by saying, you know, I repudiate as demonic the use of penicillin in my body.
00:41:19When I was a child, it was against my knowledge because I was a child.
00:41:25But the devil still was able to send demons into me and I'm going to rebuke them, plead the blood
00:41:31of Jesus against them and be free from them.
00:41:35And so it was a train wreck, John.
00:41:37People went down this path left and right, contacting parents, trying to be set free.
00:41:43And of course, after they went through all of that, do you think that they had any better health or
00:41:49any better finances or no, they definitely did.
00:41:53When I began my consulting business as an IT professional, I had already accomplished many of the different roles in
00:42:02IT, everything from the entry-level engineer all the way up to the CTO, CIO level.
00:42:07And so I could do all of the pieces in between.
00:42:10And I made the mistake when I started my consulting business of trying to do all of those pieces rather
00:42:15than hiring people who are specialized in each skill.
00:42:19It's a big mistake.
00:42:20If you've ever been in business, you know what I'm talking about.
00:42:23When you get the right person for the right job, it's like they say you get the right tool for
00:42:28the right job.
00:42:28You're going to get the job done more efficiently.
00:42:31The problem that I see is whenever these people rise up to a central figure, they think they know everything.
00:42:37Every single thing.
00:42:39Not just spiritual things.
00:42:40They know everything.
00:42:41That's right.
00:42:42And you're talking about the medication, all of this.
00:42:45I watch ministers telling you how they had this absurd technique that didn't require herbs or medicine or anything to
00:42:53heal their body, and God healed them because they did this technique.
00:42:56Well, what they're doing essentially is medical science, but it's incorrect medical science.
00:43:00The technique, maybe it works, but I would say nine times – I'd say ten times out of ten, I
00:43:07never saw anything of substance there.
00:43:09Where it gets really odd is that the people who are in that mindset in the pews, they start to
00:43:17rewire how their brain thinks about the things that are skilled and specialized, even the ones that they went to
00:43:25school for.
00:43:26We had a – I'm not going to go into great details because I'm not a doctor, but we had
00:43:31a person that they claimed was raised from the dead in one of the churches here.
00:43:36And they explained – it was a big, long Facebook post.
00:43:40Praise God, this person died right there in the pew.
00:43:43God came down and delivered them from death right there in the service.
00:43:47And they talked about how a skilled medical professional, a doctor, went and pronounced him dead right there on the
00:43:54scene, and then suddenly he's alive.
00:43:56And they talked about how it was performed.
00:43:59I sent this to multiple medical professionals who were at the same level, and they said, that's not really how
00:44:07you declare somebody dead.
00:44:09The person – yes, you can feel the wrist.
00:44:11Yes, they might not show a pulse in their wrist.
00:44:14That's not how you pronounce them dead.
00:44:16It was not an official death.
00:44:18And yet, this person who did this actually could have lost their license for claiming this had it actually got
00:44:24out that they did this.
00:44:26What they have done is they've dumbed down the skills because they want to say that if we do anything
00:44:32that requires training in this world, we're eliminating the power of God to do things bypassing our training, not thinking
00:44:41about the fact that God may have helped establish the training programs.
00:44:45So, in the end, it's this vicious circle.
00:44:47And sitting on top of that circle is the central figure who's orchestrating the whole thing, making people – I
00:44:55hate to say it, they're dumbing down the skills of the people so that they can look better before the
00:44:59people.
00:45:00Absolutely, and making themselves rich in the process.
00:45:04You know, I also own a custom cabinet business, which I have done for a lot of my adult life.
00:45:10So, I've been in construction in all phases of construction.
00:45:14I built this house, my house where we live now.
00:45:17But I was over last week, John, at – we're getting ready to move from my current location where my
00:45:24business is to a new and better location.
00:45:27And it's just about ready for us to move in.
00:45:29But beside our building, they are pouring a slab for doing all the flat work for another big building they're
00:45:35getting ready to put up.
00:45:36So, they have, you know, that incredible concrete truck that, you know, has the tube on it.
00:45:42You drive concrete mixers up to it, and they just pour the concrete into the receiver.
00:45:48And then that truck, with its suction, takes that up, this extended arm that can reach way out far, and
00:45:58it's pouring out of this chute.
00:46:00And so, you have this man over there.
00:46:02You've got a crew that's spreading it, but you've got a man that is holding the chute, but then you
00:46:08have – and he's just guiding it, you know, pushing it over here and shoving it over there.
00:46:12And this concrete is pouring out of it, but you have one individual who's kind of standing over in the
00:46:17shade, and he's got a lanyard around his neck, and he has this little box, and it's got these little
00:46:24ways to maneuver things.
00:46:26And he's the one controlling all of that.
00:46:29And so, I watched him.
00:46:30I've never done that.
00:46:31And I watched him do that, and I thought, man, that is really cool because he's having to twist that
00:46:36arm and bend it and pull it toward you and push it away and change the angle.
00:46:41And he's doing it all by remote control.
00:46:43And I said to him, I said, hey, I want to do that.
00:46:48I want to try that.
00:46:49And he took that thing off and handed it to me.
00:46:51I said, I'm just kidding.
00:46:52I'm just kidding.
00:46:53I said, I would bury your whole crew in concrete, I'm sure, because I said, I have this favorite saying
00:46:59of mine, you cannot beat a man at his own job.
00:47:02I don't care if he's a mechanic, if he's a roofer, a siding guy, a cabinet maker, a concrete.
00:47:11You can't beat a man at his own job.
00:47:14And yet, you are exactly right.
00:47:16The ministers in these circles think that they're experts on everything, and they do want to bypass the people who
00:47:24truly are experts.
00:47:26And so, what happened with Hobart's teaching on deeper deliverance and discernment is he told them, I have the secret,
00:47:36and it's all demonic.
00:47:38And so, he steered people away from counseling.
00:47:45Counseling was an absolute no, no.
00:47:49Counseling is demonic.
00:47:51You're just listening to heathen, unsaved people try to give you advice for situations in your life.
00:47:58He was very, very much opposed to any counseling.
00:48:03And again, he wasn't a professional counselor.
00:48:07Counselors, good ones, and they're good, bad, and in between.
00:48:12You know, they have professional training, and they may not even have a degree in psychology or psychiatry.
00:48:19I think one of those is an academic degree.
00:48:22One of those is a medical degree, but they still have training in counseling.
00:48:26And then, if you have the appropriate degrees and you are a psychiatrist, which I think is a medical degree,
00:48:33and a psychologist, which is, you know, an academic type of degree, those people have gone through a tremendous amount
00:48:40of training.
00:48:41Are they always right?
00:48:42Of course not.
00:48:43But no human being is in any field.
00:48:47You know, do they always get it right?
00:48:48No.
00:48:49Are there really bad ones?
00:48:50Are there quacks and crazies out there in that field?
00:48:54Of course.
00:48:55But no more than there are behind pulpits today.
00:48:59So, you know, roll the dice and see where you want to go.
00:49:01So, I think, you know, what I would encourage people here, John, with the end of our podcast today, people
00:49:13do have psychological and psychiatric problems.
00:49:18Sometimes, some people have them a lot worse than others.
00:49:21I just think you've really put yourself in a dangerous position if you, as a Christian minister, are telling everybody
00:49:29that you have all the answers.
00:49:31I think some things are caused by a demonic influence, and there is some type or some measure of deliverance
00:49:40that's going to be needed.
00:49:41But I also think, John, that there's just tons and tons of stuff out there that is not demonic.
00:49:48You can cast demons out until you're red in the face.
00:49:51But the person has issues that need to be dealt with in some, you know, structured counseling way.
00:50:02And apart from that, I mean, I think this demonic stuff is you're just looking for, you know, a shortcut.
00:50:08It's like we said a few weeks ago where I remember back in the 70s where people were saying demons
00:50:14were calories.
00:50:15And so, if you cast the demon out of the piece of chocolate cake, you cast out the calories.
00:50:21And as long as you cast out the calories, you can eat the German chocolate cake.
00:50:26I mean, I literally heard people say that.
00:50:27That's no nuttier to me than what Hobart taught, that everybody who has some little quirk in their personality, and
00:50:36who doesn't have something in their personality that other people would say, you know, brother, you're not exactly normal.
00:50:45You know, I'm sure I have those in my life.
00:50:48I feel like I'm relatively balanced and healthy and normal, but I'm sure I'm not in some area.
00:50:55But I don't think that means I have a demon.
00:50:58You know what it means?
00:50:59It just means that I'm me, and you are you, and they are they.
00:51:04And that's the beauty of the human population on the earth.
00:51:09We would not all want to be the same way.
00:51:12What I would encourage people to do is to read, just read the book of Acts and read your epistles
00:51:20and ask yourself this question.
00:51:22In light of Hobart Freeman's teaching, where?
00:51:25Where?
00:51:26Where?
00:51:28In Acts.
00:51:29Where in Paul's epistles?
00:51:32Where in the other New Testament epistles do you see members of these early first century churches being told they
00:51:41need to go through deliverance?
00:51:43I just don't see that.
00:51:45I see Jesus casting demons out of people in the Gospels.
00:51:49There's no doubt about that.
00:51:51And I don't think the demons just stopped appearing after Jesus ascended to heaven.
00:51:56But, however, we're talking about churches and Christian believers.
00:52:00Hobart Freeman's not out on a street corner evangelizing.
00:52:04Hobart's preaching behind a pulpit to Christian people.
00:52:08And I'm saying, where do you see Christian people in Acts or the epistles being told you need to go
00:52:15through deliverance?
00:52:16I think what you see in the epistles are two things.
00:52:19And in Acts, number one, your conversion experience has taken you from Satan's kingdom into God's kingdom.
00:52:27That doesn't mean all your problems have disappeared, but you have already been rescued.
00:52:33What does 2 Corinthians 5.17 say?
00:52:36If you're in Christ, you're a new creation.
00:52:39Old things are passed away, and behold, all things have become new.
00:52:42Now, you have to take that relatively, because just because you have become a Christian doesn't mean that every personality
00:52:52trait that you should work on has already been all taken care of.
00:52:57Now, what the epistles tell us is that Christianity is a lifetime of learning, and it's a lifetime of growth.
00:53:05And some people grow faster than others.
00:53:08Some people grow slower.
00:53:09Some people have more things to deal with than others, and some people just don't.
00:53:15Some people who have come maybe from the situation of having been adopted, and maybe, John, they've been adopted into
00:53:24a family where one of the new parents is an alcoholic.
00:53:28You know, I can't imagine the trauma that a person goes through in their life with all of that.
00:53:37I can't imagine the trauma of so many of the second- and third-generation faith assembly people.
00:53:43They have been through a tremendous amount of trauma.
00:53:47And yet what they were told all along is all you need to do is go through deliverance.
00:53:53And once you go through deliverance, you'll be free.
00:53:55I think that the human brain and the human personality are just – they're way more complex than the human
00:54:03body.
00:54:04Hobart thought he knew everything about the human body.
00:54:06All you got to do is, you know, claim your healing and you'll be healed.
00:54:10Ignore all those symptoms.
00:54:12Those are lying symptoms from the devil.
00:54:15Think how off he would be when you get to the area of the human brain and personality that are
00:54:21far more complex than our body.
00:54:24I just don't think that any of these ministers had the professional training and they weren't qualified to talk about
00:54:31it.
00:54:31And so here we go, John.
00:54:33We get to the end of Hobart Freeman's life himself.
00:54:38After all these years of teaching on deliverance, all of his experience, his writing of his books and tracks on
00:54:48demons and deliverance,
00:54:50and we get to the last days and literally the last hours of Dr. Freeman's life and where, in his
00:55:02case, there was panic.
00:55:04When you read the stories in the Bible of the saints of old who died, of Abraham, of Joseph, of
00:55:12Moses, of Joshua,
00:55:15it was vastly different than when you read the story of Dr. Freeman's last few days where the saints in
00:55:23the Bible, they died in peace.
00:55:24We're told having served their generation.
00:55:27They died at a ripe old age.
00:55:29They died knowing they had accomplished what God had called them to accomplish.
00:55:35They died longing for heaven.
00:55:37They died with afterwards the people having a brief period of mourning.
00:55:44And then what happened?
00:55:46There was no trying to raise the dead.
00:55:48Nobody tried to raise Abraham or Joseph or Moses or Joshua or whenever he was probably martyred,
00:55:58the apostle Paul, no one tried to raise the dead.
00:56:01People had their brief period of mourning, and then they went on with their life.
00:56:07You contrast that with the end of Hobart's life.
00:56:10There was panic.
00:56:11The last day and the last night of Dr. Freeman's life,
00:56:17because of this rampant, unreasonable fear of demons and the occult,
00:56:25the people around him,
00:56:28June, his wife, Kathy, his daughter,
00:56:32other ministers who were brought in,
00:56:35like Steve Hill, like Jim Oswalt,
00:56:39the people that were close to Dr. Freeman there in the last hours of his life,
00:56:43what were they doing?
00:56:44They were ridding the premises of all of Dr. Freeman's past study material
00:56:51with regard to occult matters and demons and deliverance.
00:56:56Why?
00:56:57Because they themselves had been taught by him so well,
00:57:01they were terrified over the thought,
00:57:05maybe Dr. Freeman is spiraling downward,
00:57:08which he did, died of every disease,
00:57:12everything he said he would heal from.
00:57:14He was a walking dead man, quote unquote,
00:57:18the last days of his life.
00:57:20They were afraid that if there were any of these occult materials around,
00:57:26that somehow that was opening doors for demon spirits to be there.
00:57:30And so they got rid of all of that.
00:57:32They went down the same path that Hobart had trained everyone to.
00:57:37You go name the demons, you get rid of them,
00:57:40and then you can receive your answer from God.
00:57:42And it did not make any difference at all in the end of Hobart's life.
00:57:47So I look and say, look, he taught all this stuff,
00:57:50deceived countless people,
00:57:52had people chasing things forever in their life.
00:57:56It was an endless quest to find the answer.
00:58:00Why? Why, God, are my prayers not answered?
00:58:03And Hobart, in the end of his life,
00:58:06was chasing down that same road of an endless quest.
00:58:11Why am I dying of all of these diseases?
00:58:14So it's a really, really sad story.
00:58:16And I would just encourage people,
00:58:20don't listen to people like this,
00:58:23but stay reading your Bible.
00:58:25For me, it's this simple.
00:58:27It doesn't work.
00:58:29You look at all of these guys.
00:58:31Hobart Freeman, there's a reason why
00:58:32the people surrounding him at his death
00:58:36tried to hold back
00:58:38so that the people did not figure out what was happening.
00:58:41It's because it didn't work.
00:58:43And we've talked about this,
00:58:44might have been the last episode or the one before,
00:58:47F.F. Bosworth, who wrote the book,
00:58:48Christ the Healer.
00:58:50That's really the precursor to all of this deliverance stuff.
00:58:53He died in much the same way,
00:58:55and they did the same exact thing.
00:58:57I'm looking at the death certificate right now.
00:59:00His brother signed it.
00:59:01His brother knew that it didn't work.
00:59:04I can't read the doctor's scribble,
00:59:06but there are things that I can read on here.
00:59:09Contributing to his death was diabetes.
00:59:11So this is a man claiming that you can conquer diabetes,
00:59:14and he's diabetic.
00:59:16This is a man who knew that he was diabetic,
00:59:18likely, while he was saying these things.
00:59:21That, for me, is a problem.
00:59:23But the diabetes led to,
00:59:24like everybody else who has diabetes,
00:59:27led to the heart disease,
00:59:28the heart failure, etc.
00:59:30And you can read all of this.
00:59:31You go to my website,
00:59:32type in Bosworth,
00:59:33go to the government documents,
00:59:34you can read it.
00:59:35It doesn't work.
00:59:37And yet, whenever it doesn't work,
00:59:39and one of these people
00:59:40who are the great sorcerers,
00:59:41who are telling all the people that it works,
00:59:43dies, they take it to the grave with them,
00:59:45and then the next person does it,
00:59:47till they die.
00:59:48And each time, it just doesn't work.
00:59:51So there's a definition of insanity.
00:59:54When you keep trying the same thing,
00:59:55and it doesn't work,
00:59:57you might have a little bit of a problem
00:59:59with your brain.
01:00:00I'll just, I'll say it like that,
01:00:02and I'll close it there.
01:00:03Thank you so much for doing this.
01:00:05Hence the need for all of this expose.
01:00:07If they won't tell the people,
01:00:09somebody has to.
01:00:11Absolutely.
