Health groups rally against proposed P39.3B cuts to public hospitals

Health workers and health advocates on Sept. 2, 2026 rally near the House of Representatives in Quezon City as lawmakers deliberate on the proposed 2027 budget of the Department of Health (DOH), opposing what they said were billions of pesos in cuts to public hospitals. According to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Aug. 11, the proposed 2027 national budget totals P7.2 trillion, with P353.8 billion allocated for health, covering the DOH, specialty hospitals and PhilHealth. The group also called for free and financially accessible healthcare services, saying, "It is our right to have free, quality, and affordable healthcare services." HEAD said all 86 DOH-retained public hospitals have no capital outlay allocation under the proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program.
