The fight against tuberculosis (TB) spilled out of clinics and into the heart of Cebu City on Aug. 29, 2025 as the Department of Health (DOH) brought free medical services directly to Plaza Independencia. Health Undersecretary Mary Ann P. Maestral, who led the Cebu activity, said the government was adopting a more aggressive approach to TB detection. The Department of Health mounted the activity as part of its Nationwide Simultaneous Active Case Finding campaign in observance of National Lung Month 2025. The DOH deployed doctors, nurses, and health workers to communities to provide free check-ups, chest X-rays, tuberculin skin testing, TB preventive treatment, HIV screening and counseling, and health education sessions.
