DOH brings anti-TB campaign to Cebu

The fight against tuberculosis (TB) spilled out of clinics and into the heart of Cebu City on Aug. 29, 2025 as the Department of Health (DOH) brought free medical services directly to Plaza Independencia. Health Undersecretary Mary Ann P. Maestral, who led the Cebu activity, said the government was adopting a more aggressive approach to TB detection. The Department of Health mounted the activity as part of its Nationwide Simultaneous Active Case Finding campaign in observance of National Lung Month 2025. The DOH deployed doctors, nurses, and health workers to communities to provide free check-ups, chest X-rays, tuberculin skin testing, TB preventive treatment, HIV screening and counseling, and health education sessions.

00:00Our problem is that our problem is that our problem is that our R.D. Josh said that every few years we have a strategy
00:09because we didn't really have a problem. In fact, there were instances that we had a problem.
00:16So, we have a strategy.
00:19We can't wait for the patients, people.
00:24So, if we have a problem, we have a problem.
00:29We have a case finding.
00:31And if we have a problem, we have a problem.
00:34We have a problem.
00:36Speaking of what's up, would you share to us
00:40how many cases of tuberculosis are here?
00:46600?
00:48643 per 100,000 people.
00:52So, it's a little fat.
00:54So, is there a lot of people who have died there?
00:58Or is there a lot of people who have died there?
01:00Usually, when they're sick, they're sick.
01:04Now, our problem is that when we have comorbidities,
01:08what are the comorbidities?
01:10For example, they have HIV, severe diabetes,
01:14they have immune system, they're the best that we have.
01:22Now, if we try to find the cases,
01:27that they are sick, we have to be sick.
01:33So, we have to be sick.
01:35As I said from the National, I would like to know,
01:37may I know, may I know,
01:39may I know, may I know,
01:41may I know, may I know,
01:42may I know, may I know,
01:43may I know, but I know,
01:44on the region,
01:45I know.
01:47Okay.
01:48Okay.
01:49So, for 2024 data,
01:54Central Visayas,
01:55exactly it's 32,511 cases
02:03are anything to look or do
02:05like na cooping for NEGNOS and Scotland.
02:10Okay, why are we making the TV campaign today?
02:14Did you say that it's a good strategy?
02:17Okay, because number one is the three-point agenda
02:21of the Secretary of Health, Secretary of Health,
02:25and also the President,
02:28that we need to stop the fight against the TV.
02:34The part of the region is it.
02:36Aside from that,
02:38we have a,
02:39pina-lunched naman rin yun sa ating pagulong,
02:42Julgo Marcos.
02:43But,
02:44sa worldwide,
02:47bali ang Philippines ay number four sa cases sa TV.
02:52That's why,
02:53kailangan kinahang lagi natin natin
02:55yun yung katagahan o pagpagtutok na programa.
03:03Anya question?
03:04Another question, sir,
03:05about sa TV and HIV cases sa BGMP.
03:10Anong updates, sir?
03:13Meron na tayong data sa TV na ating mga PDL?
03:17Yeah.
03:18Yeah.
03:19In fact,
03:20regular naman lang nga ito ang,
03:21especially sa City Health,
03:23ang surveillance and active case findings
03:26ito ang,
03:27ito ang,
03:28person deprived of liberty,
03:31no, PDLs.
03:32And,
03:33saka yun,
03:34although wala kaming data,
03:36but as per observation,
03:38na pumataas talaga din yung mga cases natin,
03:41kasama na din yung HIV na cases sa ating mga PDLs.
03:47Meron ba tayong mga programa ginagawa siya sa mga
03:50Therese on ating?
03:51Yes.
03:52In fact,
03:53may,
03:54ayun,
03:55active case findings,
03:56yung mga,
03:57yung mga medical teams ng,
03:59ah,
04:00Bureau of Jail,
04:01ah,
04:02BGMP,
04:03na-trained na natin ito para sa,
04:05ah,
04:06TV,
04:07ah,
04:08screening and treatment,
04:09dito mismo sa ito ang mga,
04:12ah,
