00:00two teams really uh that being arizona and the padres on who's going to lock up that final spot
00:07because unless i'm missing something the cubs are pretty much locked themselves in like the
00:12phillies or do you think the cubs or the phillies have still have a shot at actually winning the
00:17division i don't think so but i think that philadelphia and chicago and chicago could
00:22jockey positions back and forth and that could change home field joe in the wild card i think
00:27that's definitely a possibility and i would say that uh i don't i personally don't think the cubs
00:34have a big home field advantage at wrigley and i do think philadelphia has a big home advantage
00:39at uh citizens bank park so uh that that could come right down to the wire uh look atlanta to
00:46me
00:46is is uh has had a better season than philadelphia it remains to be seen what their pitching is going
00:51to be like as you said in the postseason but i i do think the playoff spots are set you
00:56mentioned
00:57arizona and san diego as the final spot fan graphs this morning has the updated odds
01:03with san diego having approximately a 60 chance of capturing that final wild card where the diamond
01:11backs are about close to 40 and then miami has about like a two percent chance and then st louis
01:17with one and and uh pittsburgh with one as well but yeah it does feel like it's coming down to
01:23that
01:23and as we talked about at the top of the show when i started doing some research because my producer
01:28for
01:29for the weekend for the marlins was like you know let's talk about some things we're going to talk
01:33about ahead of the cubs i was i wanted to take a look at the strength of schedule because i
01:36knew
01:37miami's strength of schedule is the hardest in baseball starting now all the way through the end
01:40of the season they have the single toughest schedule remaining uh and san diego has basically the
01:45easiest schedule in all of baseball remaining and so that obviously it's a bad combo for miami but it
01:50really brought this conversation that you and i are having joe which is i think while i do i do
01:55think
01:56arizona is probably better than san diego but is is san diego joe in their final six let's use nine
02:06in their nine remaining games between san francisco and colorado do you really think the best they're
02:11going to do is five and four in those nine games i think it's going to be better than that
02:15and if that's
02:16the case the diamondbacks could find themselves in the final weekend of the series potentially down
02:24more than three games which would knock them out arizona must be at a minimum at a maximum three
02:30games back going into the last weekend of the season it's it could be close it could be it could
02:37be very close coming down to the end and to me somebody has got to rear their head to be
02:43just
02:43that much better than the rest or at least hotter now maybe not better full scene because i think
02:48tampa is going to hold their own they're going to hold the american league east right i think we can
02:53all agree that yankees aren't catching them tampa from april right through the end is probably going
03:00to be one of the more consistent and better stories in major league baseball but that doesn't mean they're
03:06going to be red hot rolling into the postseason here very beatable and i also don't happen to think
03:13boston is going to be one of those teams that gets red hot and runs it in but i think
03:19you got to be
03:19crazy not to be looking at this cubs team and think whether they are a wild card team or not
03:25or wouldn't
03:26have somehow there's a collapse by milwaukee this cubs team is becoming more and more dangerous to me
03:32simply because they can hit for power they've got speed they've getting the pitching they upgraded at
03:39the deadline i mean they're hitting nine home runs and what they are hitting home runs like it's going
03:45out of style here greg and you and i both know small ball only gets you so far in the
03:51postseason
03:52you need to hit for some power and boy if bregman is now getting it going with p crow
03:58i don't know that we're talking enough about the cubs and their shot to roll right into the postseason
04:03yeah look i i still am skeptical when they get to the postseason that they could go far but to
04:09your
04:09point it can't just be p crow armstrong for them it feels like he has carried them but that may
04:15be
04:15doing a disservice as you mentioned to alex bregman on monday which was yesterday he became the seventh
04:21player ever to hit three home runs in games uh twice in the calendar month so he did that on
04:27august 12th
04:27he did it last night and he has 13 home runs in the month of august 33 runs driven in
04:35that leads
04:35the major leagues and only pete crom strong has more home runs than him in all the major leagues
04:40in the month of august he had 13 and pca hit 15 so uh yeah the cubs offense is is
04:45great but you know
04:47can they pitch their way through this thing i'm not sure uh boy does not been good at all against
04:52milwaukee he is era is eight so for me i i don't know i i'm a believer now because of
04:59the pca factor
05:00and by the way i believe because of the bregman factor too i mean bregman it seems like everywhere
05:04he goes he's in the postseason right so i believe in that i i do not like i will not
05:10pick the cubs
05:11the first round of the playoffs this year i will not i will pick them whoever is playing them uh
05:16most
05:16likely philadelphia i will probably pick them to beat chicago in the first round
05:19you
