00:00Let's go over some deadline awards here, Tom.
00:03I'll start off with you.
00:04Give me your best trade at the deadline and then your worst trade at the deadline,
00:09and then let's discuss the strangest trade that you saw happen.
00:12Let's start with the best trade, and that would be Luis Rai is going to the Phillies.
00:17And I think it's a great move for them.
00:19I think it insulates their lineup.
00:20I think he fits well into it.
00:21I think Bryce Harper saying that he's willing to move to the outfield is good.
00:25I think top to bottom, getting another solid contact hitter in the lineup
00:29alongside some of the power that they have, I think is an A-plus move for them.
00:33They didn't really need a ton of pitching help.
00:34You could have used a little bit, but I like the hitting move for them.
00:37The worst trade to me is Foster Griffin, and Foster Griffin was awesome this year.
00:41He really was.
00:42But going to the Guardians is just the wrong move for them to make,
00:45giving them assets to get a pitcher.
00:46When you have Gavin Williams, you have Parker Messick, you have Tanner Bybee,
00:50you were in the top ten in the league for the fewest runs allowed.
00:53Your pitching is awesome.
00:54They have the second fewest runs scored, Craig.
00:56Their offense is terrible.
00:58So spending assets to get a pitcher that you don't need doesn't make sense.
01:02Now, they went out and got Joe Adele, which I think is fine,
01:03but you need another hitter in that lineup.
01:05So when you have a three-game series, you're going to be starting Gavin Williams
01:08and Parker Messick and what we're going to have, a Tane, a Bybee, and Griffin.
01:12Griffin's awesome, and no discredit to him,
01:15but that's not what the Guardians needed to do.
01:17And then the Weir's trade, it's going to be along the same lines.
01:20Dustin May to the Brewers.
01:21We've talked about the Brewers before.
01:23You've said it routinely.
01:24They call up someone from AAA, oh, he gives you five, six innings,
01:27one run, five strikeouts, then boom, seven, eight, nine,
01:30you turn it over to the Brewers' bullpen.
01:32Great.
01:32And they don't need pitching help.
01:34I've said this before about the Brewers.
01:35The top of the lineup with Contreras and Churio and Gelich,
01:40and Bryce Terrain's been awesome, and Andrew Vaughn's like, wow, that's great.
01:43The bottom portion of the lineup, not good.
01:45You didn't need to improve pitching.
01:46You need to improve hitting to build a lineup that can beat the Dodgers or the Phillies or the Braves.
01:52They don't have that type of offense.
01:53They have the pitching, but they don't have the hitting.
01:56Yeah, the Brewers certainly didn't upgrade the offense, but I guess they didn't want to change the dynamic of the
02:01team.
02:01It's really the only thing that I can think of there.
02:04All right, so the best trade I have, the Padres getting Robbie Ray, getting Casey Mize.
02:10I know Mize was not great his first time out, but I think the Padres have just put their foot
02:15on the pedal again.
02:16Is that me?
02:17Okay, it's sort of me, I guess.
02:20The worst trade is that picture of me, but the worst trade is whatever the Twins did,
02:26meaning getting all these bullpen arms, you know, deciding that they were sort of in it.
02:31I think the Twins are going to regret this, and this is the same team that traded Louis Varland and
02:35Johan Duran last year.
02:37They probably gave up just as much to get less guys back.
02:40It doesn't make any sense to me.
02:42Minnesota, I understand technically they're still in it, a game or two out of the wild card,
02:47but the Twins are not making it.
02:48They do not have Byron Buxton.
02:50They're sending up these, this is like a boat out to sea that just goes one direction,
02:54then another direction, another direction.
02:55I can't figure them out.
02:56And then the weirdest trade of all was the Toronto Blue Jays, you know, trading off their assets
03:01and also trading Varsho, and then getting back Jose Soriano from the Angels.
03:06I guess this is more of a trade for next year than it is for this year,
03:10and Soriano's actually been pretty good with the Angels,
03:13but I mean, I think the Blue Jays could have just attacked starting pitching in the offseason
03:17as far as free agency is concerned.
03:19So that was a little bit of a bizarre trade for me.
03:22Tom, your quick thoughts.
03:24Yeah, Soriano, I think it's just a control thing that he's, you know,
03:28not his contract is still are eligible for a couple of years,
03:30but you could have done this in the offseason.
03:32Listen, if they got assets, you know, they got some assets back from Gosselin,
03:35they brought in Soriano, I guess it's okay.
