00:09Down 13 with 53 seconds, they knock off No. 7-ranked Villanova
00:13for some FCS madness to start the season.
00:16Let's talk about the monumental win with Coach London,
00:19who just so happens to be my father.
00:22Coach, what's going on?
00:24My man, I'll just get straight into it.
00:27But what was going through your head, down 13 with 53 seconds left,
00:34and how were you guys able to pull off that amazing comeback?
00:39No, well, I know who your daddy is.
00:42That's what you are.
00:43You got the same kind of energy and stuff.
00:44But, no, you know, listen, you've been around me.
00:49Bone marrow donor and a doctor said the odds of the parent being a match
00:52were 10,000 to 1.
00:53Gun, police officer, where a gun's pulled and pointed at my face.
00:58The trigger pull doesn't go off.
00:59So the odds of things happening, I just, I don't live by that credo.
01:03I'm just like, anything's possible.
01:04So as long as there's time on the clock, there's an opportunity to execute
01:08and get things done.
01:09And so you practice those things time after time again.
01:12And to watch it all come to fruition was really, really, you know,
01:16to God be the glory, really, really awesome to see.
01:19And so excited about the win, on the road, the last few moments.
01:24And it just makes for a story to be told, hopefully, at the end of the year
01:28when we're talking about relevance in a season.
01:30Which play would you say was the turning point for a monumental comeback
01:35or historic comeback like that to actually happen?
01:39Because this isn't something that happens every day.
01:43I would say, look at the percentage of onside, successful onside kicks,
01:48that that was successful because had they gotten the ball,
01:51they could take it and run the clock out.
01:53But to be able to get it and, you know, secure, secure,
01:58and then all of a sudden the next few plays after that,
02:01it's third and eight with 30 seconds left.
02:03We throw a long touchdown pass, and that kind of starts the run,
02:08you know, for everything that happened.
02:09Because then, you know, they have the ball and they decide to throw the ball
02:13to try to, I guess, maybe get in field goal range.
02:15But a true freshman intercepts it, runs out of bounds with five seconds left.
02:20We run the Mayday team on.
02:21They kick the field goal, game over.
02:23So I think getting that onside recovery was critical.
02:28Yeah, I mean, we stormed the field.
02:30Me and your grandson, we stormed the field.
02:32I went viral on that.
02:34So we appreciate the likes and the views.
02:37And your grandson appreciates being able to see that,
02:40seeing his papa come back with such a great win like that.
02:44Which would you say, because, you know, I'm a huge fan, your son,
02:48heir to the throne, which was a bigger career win for you,
02:53pulling off the largest point spread upset in college football history
02:57when you were head coach at Howard in 2017 and y'all beat UNLV on the road
03:03as 45-point underdogs or that comeback win versus Villanova?
03:09Wow, that's a tough one right there.
03:11You being a, you know, you being who you are, I knew he was going to ask it.
03:15But I would, again, I'm not trying to be coach speak or anything like that.
03:19I've never seen in 53 seconds something like that happen in my coaching career.
03:26I've been, like you said, I've been a part of the great win at Howard when we beat UNLV.
03:31I've been at UVA as a head coach.
03:33We beat Miami and Florida State on the road.
03:35First time that's, you know, that's been done, you know, anywhere, anyone.
03:38But I would think that the opportunity to kind of see all the elements, special teams,
03:45you get, we kick the field goal 22 points, and then the special teams part of it,
03:52of the onside kick, all right, and then offensively scoring a touchdown
03:56with no second, with no timeouts, 30 seconds left.
04:00And then the defense getting an interception and running out of bounds with five seconds left.
04:05And then back to the special teams again, kicking the field goal with five seconds left
04:09and storming the field, that that's, you know, when you talk about all elements
04:13being involved in winning a game like that in the final moments on the road
04:17against a top 10 opponent, that was pretty special.
04:21It was special to watch, special to be a part of.
04:23You made SportsCenter.
04:25You guys were the talk of the town, talk of college football in Week Zero.
04:30Really quick, since we're up here in New York,
04:33Edge rusher Nate Lynn played for you at William & Mary.
04:37He had three sacks in two preseason games for the Jets, but he was released on Sunday.
04:42He'll more than likely end up on the practice squad if he isn't claimed off waivers.
04:47What can you tell Jets fans or just NFL fans in general about Nate Lynn
04:53and what he could add to a roster?
04:57Yeah, I love Nate Lynn.
04:59I love his motor.
05:01He's a guy that played all positions for us.
05:04He was a three technique.
05:05He'd line up over the center, four eye, five technique, stand up.
05:08And so there's so many different things that he can add to the value of a football team.
05:13And I'm pulling for him.
05:15I'm excited for him because, again, his best football,
05:18even though he's been out for a couple years,
05:20is still ahead of him because he's hungry.
05:22You know, he's hungry and a closed mouth don't get fed.
05:25And so I know Nate's going to try to chomp at the bit to go get it done.
